On the other hand, after leaving Ethan's house, Fury boarded his Quinjet.
A few hours later, the aircraft landed near Kathmandu, not far from the location of Kamar-Taj.
Fury stepped out with a small team of agents, but he didn't bring them with him into the city.
"You all stay here," Fury said.
"Yes, sir," the agents replied.
Fury then walked alone into the busy streets of Kathmandu.
The market was crowded with people, shops, and street vendors. He moved through the crowd calmly, following the directions he had been given.
After some time, he reached the area where Kamar-Taj was located.
Standing near the entrance was Natasha Romanoff.
She was leaning against the wall casually, as if she had been waiting for someone.
Fury walked up to her.
"I guess the Ancient One said I'm coming," Fury said while looking at her.
Natasha nodded.
"Yes," she replied. "She told me to wait here and bring you to her."
Fury raised an eyebrow.
"Does she also knew why I am here?"
Natasha shrugged slightly.
"She just said you would arrive soon."
Fury looked at the building in front of them.
"Alright then," he said.
Natasha pushed herself off the wall and started walking inside.
"Follow me," she said.
Fury walked behind her as they entered Kamar-Taj.
Fury followed Natasha through the halls of Kamar-Taj.
Several students were training in the courtyard, practicing strange glowing spells and movements. Fury looked around briefly but didn't say anything.
Soon, Natasha led him into a quiet room.
Standing near the window was the Ancient One.
She turned when they entered.
"Director Fury," she greeted calmly.
Fury gave a small nod.
Natasha stepped back and quietly left the room, leaving the two of them alone.
Fury looked at the Ancient One.
"Do you know why I'm here?" he asked.
The Ancient One smiled slightly.
"You are not the first person to misuse the Tesseract and cause trouble," she said calmly. "And you surely will not be the last."
Fury sighed quietly.
"So you do know," he said.
The Ancient One walked a few steps and looked outside the window.
"Loki," she said.
Fury nodded.
"Yes."
He looked at her seriously.
"Will you help?"
The Ancient One shook her head gently.
"Kamar-Taj does not interfere in world affairs unless they involve mystical threats," she explained.
Fury frowned slightly.
"Loki is a god with magic," he said.
"Yes," the Ancient One replied calmly. "But his actions right now are not purely mystical. They involve your world and your organizations."
She then looked back at Fury.
"However," she continued, "you may take your agents back with you."
Fury understood what she meant.
Clint, Natasha, Coulson and hoepfully Sharon if he can.
"As for Arasaka's guards," the Ancient One added, "that is up to them."
Fury nodded slowly.
"Thank you for understanding," he said.
He knew he couldn't force her to help.
So he simply turned and prepared to leave.
Fury walked out of the room quietly.
Natasha was waiting for him in the hallway.
"Well?" she asked.
Fury shook his head slightly.
"She won't interfere," he said. "Not unless the threat is purely mystical."
Natasha didn't look surprised.
"That sounds like her," she said.
They walked through the halls of Kamar-Taj together.
Many students were still training in the courtyard. Some of them briefly looked at Fury as he passed.
After a moment, Fury spoke again.
"She said we can take our agents back," he said.
Natasha nodded.
"Clint, Coulson… and Sharon if you can convince her," she said.
Fury nodded.
"That's the plan."
A few minutes later, they reached the training area where Clint was.
Clint Barton was standing in the courtyard with a bow in his hand. A glowing training target floated in the air in front of him.
He pulled the string and released the arrow.
The arrow hit the target perfectly.
Clint lowered the bow and noticed Fury and Natasha walking toward him.
"Director," Clint said calmly.
Fury looked at him for a moment.
"You ready to come back to work?" Fury asked.
Clint gave a small smile.
"Depends," he said.
"Are we dealing with something big?"
Fury nodded.
"Very big."
Clint picked up another arrow and placed it in the quiver on his back.
"Good," he said.
"I was getting bored here."
Fury nodded.
"I expected that answer," he said.
Clint slung his bow across his back.
"What's the situation?" he asked.
Fury looked at him seriously.
"The Tesseract was stolen."
Clint frowned.
"By who?"
"Loki," Fury replied.
Clint raised an eyebrow.
"Thor's brother?"
Fury nodded.
"Yes. He attacked the facility and took the Tesseract."
Natasha crossed her arms.
"He also used mind control on Dr. Selvig," she added.
Clint looked at both of them.
"That sounds bad," he said.
"It is," Fury replied. "And if Loki opens another portal with the Tesseract, we could be facing an alien invasion."
Clint was silent for a moment.
Then he nodded.
"Alright," he said. "When do we leave?"
"Now, with Coulson and Sharon hopefully," Fury replied.
"I doubt Sharon will leave with us," Clint said with a small smile. "All this time, I've only heard her talk about Ethan this and that."
Fury raised his eyebrow but didn't say anything.
Natasha glanced at Clint.
"Ethan? The smae Ethan we know?" she asked.
Clint nodded.
"Yeah. The Arasaka guy," he said. "She talks about him a lot."
Fury finally spoke.
"Agent Carter always had strong opinions," he said calmly.
Natasha looked at him.
"So you think she'll stay here?"
Fury shook his head slightly.
"I don't know," he said. "But right now we need every capable agent we can get."
Clint shrugged.
"Well, we can at least ask," he said.
The three of them continued walking through the crowded street.
After a few minutes, they reached the entrance of Kamar-Taj again where several students were training nearby.
Clint looked around.
"So where are Coulson and Sharon?" he asked.
Natasha pointed toward another courtyard.
"They were training there earlier," she said.
Fury nodded.
"Let's go get them," he said.
The three of them walked toward the courtyard to find the other two agents.
