The time quickly came to the next day. After casually packing their backpacks, the two set off on their journey to the wild area of the Galar region! Traveling by plane, they soon arrived at their destination.
The wild area of Galar often plays host to falling objects known as Wishing Stars.
Once processed, these stones can be turned into Dynamax Bands! In addition, the area is scattered with fragmentary fossils, drawing many eager fossil enthusiasts hoping to dig up a piece of history.
However, almost all of them only manage to uncover fairly ordinary fossils; actual Pokémon fossils are practically impossible to find.
Yet, recent rumors claimed that ancient fossil Pokémon from the Galar region had been spotted in this part of the wild area! That was exactly what brought Ash and Chloe here today.
Upon arriving, they found the area bustling with people digging for fossils. Among the crowd, Ash and Chloe crossed paths with two very eccentric individuals: Cara Liss and Bray! To put it plainly, one was completely reckless, and the other was thoroughly disorganized.
Despite their glaring personality flaws, their technical talent was undeniably impressive; working together, the duo had actually managed to construct a functioning, miniature fossil restoration machine!
Before long, guided by Ash's Aura abilities, he and Chloe successfully located the fossilized remains of the ancient Galar Pokémon. With the enthusiastic help of Cara Liss and Bray On, they fed the specimens into the machine to bring them back to life!
However, the resurrected Pokémon looked absolutely nothing like what they were supposed to in ancient times.
Dracozolt, which should have featured a bird-like upper half matched with a proper dinosaur body, ended up as a bird-headed creature attached to a massive fish tail! Meanwhile, Dracovish—meant to be a cohesive aquatic beast—emerged as a misplaced fish head stuck onto a dinosaur's hindquarters!
The bizarre sight left them staring in disbelief.
"Uh, you two… You didn't accidentally mix up the top and bottom halves of those fossils, did you?" Chloe questioned, skeptical. Any normal person could see that something was seriously wrong here!
Well, almost anyone. Beside her, Ash was staring at the two newly born Pokémon with his eyes shining in absolute awe, completely failing to notice anything unusual about their anatomy!
Beads of cold sweat formed on the researchers' foreheads. Bray quickly rushed over to the bird-headed creature, trying to cover up the mistake. "Not at all! This is actually a rare regional variant of Galar's ancient fossils. It's called… Arctozolt! Yes, that's right! Arctozolt!"
The reckless Cara Liss immediately jumped over to the fish-headed dinosaur to chime in. "Yes, exactly! This one is also a unique variant from Galar's ancient past. It's called… Dracovish!!"
Chloe just stared at them blankly. You two literally just swapped and mashed the names of the original fossil Pokémon together, didn't you? Why did these two scientists seem so incredibly unreliable?
"Dracovish possesses extraordinary leg strength and jaw pressure, making it completely unmatched in ancient times.
However, because it overhunted its own prey into extinction, it ironically caused its own demise! Its signature move, Fishious Rend, can deal double damage if it strikes first!"
A computerized voice suddenly spoke up from behind Chloe. She turned around to see that Ash had already pulled out his Rotom Phone and was actively scanning the Dracovish.
Surprisingly, the device actually identified it by that exact name, and the entry was fully registered in the official database! So… the researchers hadn't actually gotten it wrong? Were Dracovish and Arctozolt real species after all?
"Muka~"
The newly resurrected Dracovish didn't seem particularly confused by its new surroundings. It turned its massive head, looking left and right, until its gaze landed squarely on Ash!
An inexplicable, powerful attraction seemed to draw it toward him. In an instant, it charged straight at Ash, wide-eyed and opening its massive jaws as it sprinted forward!
"Ah! Ash, look out! Get out of the way!!" Chloe shrieked in absolute horror.
Dracovish's open mouth looked like a yawning abyss. If anyone got caught inside that bite, they might never come back out!
The Pokédex had literally just warned them that its jaw pressure and bite force were its most lethal traits. If it clamped down on a human body, it could snap a person clean in half!
Yet, compared to Chloe's sheer panic, Ash looked completely relaxed. "Don't worry, it's fine! Dracovish is just expressing how excited it is to meet—"
Before he could even finish his sentence, Dracovish lunged forward and swallowed Ash's entire upper half, burying its head deep inside its mouth!
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!"
Chloe's expression transcended mere terror. Reacting purely on instinct to save her friend, she immediately spun toward Ash's partner. "Pi… Pikachu, use Iron Tail! Use Iron Tail to save Ash right now!"
"Pika! Pika-chuuu!!"
Seeing his trainer suddenly get chomped down by the massive fossil Pokémon, Pikachu was momentarily stunned and confused.
But hearing Chloe's frantic command, he snapped into action. His tail instantly gleamed with a brilliant, metallic sheen, cutting through the air with a sharp whistle as he swung it toward the Dracovish!
Clang!
The Iron Tail was cleanly intercepted! Not by the Dracovish, but by Ash himself—using his bare hand!
Ash's hand was completely enveloped in a swirling, brilliant blue energy—a clear manifestation of his Aura power.
Even so… blocking a full-powered Iron Tail with nothing but a bare hand was the feat of an absolute monster! The raw physical capabilities of the "Super Pallet Town Native" had clearly reached an entirely new level.
"I'm totally fine, don't worry! Pikachu, Chloe, look—Dracovish is just playing around with me~" Ash's muffled, echoing voice drifted out from inside the Pokémon's mouth.
Sensing no hostility, Dracovish happily opened its jaws and released him. Ash's head emerged completely unscathed, save for being entirely drenched in Pokémon saliva.
Seeing this, Chloe finally let out a massive sigh of relief. Thank goodness… thank goodness Ash was built differently.
...
[Lance: Holy cow!! Blocking an Iron Tail with his bare hands?! At this point in the timeline, Pikachu is a seasoned veteran and a literal Champion-level partner! And he can just catch that attack casually?]
[Steven: To be fair, that Iron Tail clearly wasn't meant to cause real harm. Pikachu's sole intention was to force Dracovish to let go, not to slice Ash in half… Still, the physical durability required to pull that off is absolutely insane!]
[Marshal: If Ash is daring enough to intercept an Iron Tail with his bare hands today, he'll be stepping into the battlefield to fight in place of Pikachu tomorrow!]
[Charles Goodshow: Whew~ Thank goodness the official league rules strictly forbid trainers from fighting in the matches themselves. Otherwise, who on earth could ever hope to defeat Ash in a physical battle?]
[Leon: Haha, if trainers were allowed to duel each other directly, I'd honestly have to start fighting for my life out there…"]
Even someone as famously powerful as the Galar Champion couldn't help but sweat a little after witnessing Ash's abnormal physical conditioning.
If it came down to a hand-to-hand brawl against Ash, there was a very fine line between giving it a try and ending up in an early grave.
[Bea: On another note… does this Dracovish species actually exist right now in our timeline?]
[Raihan: Forget the present, I doubt we'll see these specific Pokémon anywhere in our current era! That goes for Arctozolt too… So where exactly did that future Pokédex pull its data from? It couldn't have just made up the entry on the spot, right?]
[Professor Oak: Hmm… has future technology advanced to the point where the Pokédex can instantly compile data on completely new genetic configurations? It seems our current models are severely outdated! We really need to accelerate the development of the Rotom Phone project!]
[Siebold: Looking at its design and listening to the description, this Dracovish appears to be a dual Water and Dragon-type. A Water/Dragon combination… that is an exceptionally powerful defensive and offensive attribute set!]
[Lance: That's not a guarantee! Gyarados looks exactly like a traditional dragon, yet it surprised everyone by being a dual Water and Flying-type instead!]
[Diantha: Alright, it's officially a Water/Dragon-type then. Lance has spoken, so there's no way it's a true Dragon-type now, right? If it actually turns out to be one, Lance is probably going to be incredibly jealous!]
[Cynthia: Hehe~ Lance works tirelessly to build a dedicated team of Dragon types, but if Dracovish counts, Ash will have at least three on his roster in that timeline—two of which are pseudo-legendaries… Lance must be crying tears of envy right about now!]
[Lance: ...]
Blast it! It's one thing to think it, but did you really have to say it out loud? He was, in fact, incredibly envious.
If this Dracovish truly was a Water/Dragon-type, then Ash was currently walking around with three massive Dragon-types: Dragonite, Garchomp, and Dracovish! If his Charizard ever achieved Mega Evolution down the line… Ash might as well officially declare himself a Dragon-type Master! Who was the real Dragon expert here anyway?!
...
In the footage—
After Ash finished his highly unusual, affectionate bonding session with Dracovish, Chloe decided to approach Arctozolt. She quickly discovered that the creature was surprisingly gentle, sharing a very similar temperament to her own Amaura.
"Arctozolt. Its freezing upper half can generate powerful electricity whenever it shivers. It is exceptionally poor at walking.
In ancient times, it lived primarily along coastlines, utilizing the ice on its body to preserve its food supply. However, because its movements were too slow, it ultimately became extinct."
Chloe pulled out her pink Rotom Phone—which she hadn't used in quite a while—to scan the Arctozolt. According to the data, it was a dual Electric and Ice-type, and it seemed to take an immediate liking to her Amaura.
"Come on out, Amaura!"
