Chapter 35 - Everything except the Protagonist

News swept through the streets

"Revenant summoned people of the town"

Throngs assembled as people boarded in lanes. They were waiting… excited to see a glimpse of the Revenant.

The stage was set and lights deemed. Two spotlights hung over, divulging the Revenant. Cheers applauded the land as people jumped in amazement. They pointed out to each other the luminary of the Revenant.

"Silence" Utoh shouted

A few literal chats and everything went off…

"The Revenant has a news to unveil" he exclaimed

Taking a few steps backward, he invited Leon.

Stepping up, personating the crowd- Leon took a deep breath.

"People of the lovely beast town"

He paused

"I the Revenant, bestow upon you the mercy from upper gods. I'm here for your liberation, for defending your rights"

The spirits rose

"I will help you to obtain your freedom in the Ascensions"

Crowd hollers rose…

People were regressing for freedom forever…

"But I won't be able to do that alone. The enemy is stronger, gifted with a large army"

He spread his arms

"But you have the Revenant"

People went crazy, indulging into the Goosebumps.

"Let's fight this war together"

More shouts roared

"Let's get our land back from those lenders"

People summoned magic spells as celebrations

"Let's deteriorate Ascension from its core… starting-" he pointed

"from the Imperial Town"

Families hugged, children jumped in annuli. Lovers kissed and the crazy beasts ripped their clothes. Everyone was fantasising about their freedom.

"Also" Leon exclaimed "I will myself plead to the gods for removing every ritualistic obstruction on the beast race"

It was a bluff…

The obstruction was never created by Gods. It was created by people who were jealous of beast domination. A paltry way to curb them in their trap.

But obligating a sudden belief system would be fatal and suspicious…

So the best way to expunge it will be in the name of god.

"A great way to discard all hellish rituals" Utah though "he don't have just strength in his arsenal"

"What a scary deity" he exclaimed

Celebration ventured forth, morning clad the town. Leon's traces were gone as the alcoholic returned to the stage.

"The Revenant is gone" one of them shouted

"Don't worry" Utah explained "Revenant will call upon us when needed"

And in squint of an eye- time skipped…

In the Imperial Town no such celebration transpired.

Liora, Agasthus, Faf, Wimblen, Silas, Rutherford, Drasha and every warrior was waiting for the first big war. They knew the epoch was preceding tremendous casualties. Everyone wished it not to be of someone they loved.

"Any signs of Leon" Mrs.Kaelen asked

"Not yet, Mother" Liora answered "he will return soon"

A day before he left, a delicious dinner was served. Leon made it replete with the copious members.

Hot potato soup with mushroom finest, drenched with long noodles. Alongside was a soft drink to swig onto.

In the rear end, when everybody stood- Leon hugged Liora. He never got to do that after he relived her story. The two held that for long, with Liora wondering the cause. But for either of them, it was a way to compensate for distance.

They laughed…

They enjoyed the moment…

It was one of their finest days…

But the time was changing. Dark clouds as a sign of perfidy and conflagration took over the landscape.

Silas was gazing straight over the abyss. Something was hesitant in the calm heart. Drasha leaped over the tall grand manor, beside Silas.

"Estra has accomplished the mission Revenant conferred him" Drasha whispered "the frequency emitter has been created"

"Oh… is it" Silas was unfazed "so, what say Drasha… Shall we onslaught ourselves?"

"Weren't we going to wait for Revenant" Drasha was confused with sudden change in the mindset

"You know Drasha, Leon is my friend. But Crikes were always my quarry" he broke the gaze for the first "I want it to end with Day Embers"

"On your command, leader" Drasha cunned in

Time whispered a solemn truth of change. Something was different in Silas. There was a desperate decipher which was finally descending. The revenge he wanted was finally being accomplished.

A band of Crikes rose in the town, chased by Faf and Agasthus. Faf opened a portal, piloting an enemy to the energy depletor from Agasthus. Another was chased by a laser dart he sent. While the last one fell to a holed portal.

"Was this the last one?" Agasthus asked

"Yes, there were four as per the info"

"So these are just three"

Faf was a little confused

"Seems like we missed one"

Agasthus simply sighed as Rutherford came to arrest the invaders.

"Good work kids" he smiled, as he threw the remaining one into the pile

"What's with their decreasing number?" Agasthus asked

"Its the silence before the storm" Faf checked their pulses

"Let's stay alert" Rutherford commanded his two men "we don't know what may sneak in"

The town was under the ambient, but cozy wind. It was silent, with people minding their daily chores. Some chattered here and there, with some beholding.

Crikes weren't moving desperately anymore…

They were alarmed…

In the Tergoray Nols- Leon was finally at the Workship place. An abundant network of caves that was inhabited by partisans of the "Embodiment goddess". A goddess many books forsook about. She was someone who could blend flesh and soil, to create a perfect embodiment of any living creature. But some tragedy must have struck- Leon believed.

The place seemed silent, without any roaring and growling. The structure was old with lurker twigs extending out. It was masked under lichens and bright sunlight.

But Leon wasn't concerned about the details…

What he wanted was a solution for Agasthus. The Goddess was his last hope.

He held his breath…

And left for the dark abyss…
