An hour ago
Kai and Fran stand beside a man on a swivel chair as they look at a monitor that has many different perspectives on it.
The security his tag on his shirt reading Gary.
Gary: "I know you guys said your with the FBI and all but why do you both have to be breathing down my neck..?"
Kai and Fran were bent over his shoulders, staring at the monitors. Not moving away.
Fran saw the uncomfort in Gary's face and decided to pull back Kai on the other hand kept his face behind the guys shoulder. Staring into a camera waiting for even the slightest hint of who The Burning Man was.
Gary still felt the uncomfortable but he had a job to do and the FBI was on his ass so he had no other choice.
Gary: "We've rewatched it twice don't you think we would have found it by now?"
Kai didn't pay attention to Gary.
Fran sighed and spoke for Kai.
Fran: "We know he was here, he would have been caught by a camera."
Gary let out a sigh of his own.
Gary: "And what happened if you don't find any clue..?"
Kai looked at the monitor closer. A blimp of fire is caught in one of the frames and that's it.
The camera perspective isnt large enough to see where he went.
Kai: "Is there any other cameras in this area?"
Gary sighs again.
Gary: "No that's a dead zone… Trust me, I've tried to look there many times when The Burning Man came around."
Kai scratched his head, then moved away from breathing down Gary's neck.
He took a few steps back, the room they were in was illuminated very well with a fluorescent rectangular lamp above them.
Kai goes deep into thought on how he can use whatever footage they have to their own advantage.
Fran: "What if it's a person at the doors? We could have saw them leave."
Kai pauses.
Kai: "Naw no way, there was like thousands of people going in and out of the mall. Local people and tourists."
Fran pauses as well.
Kai gets a lightbulb moment.
Kai: "Gary! Can you show me the closest camera to where that particular camera is at?"
Gary: "Yeah, that won't be a problem at all."
Gary begins to type words into his keyboard as Kai leans over Gary's shoulder, once again breathing down his neck.
Gary gets uncomfortable again, Kai notices it this time and backs away just enough to give him some space.
Gary feels like he can finally breath again.
Gary rewinds the recording once more for a while there's nothing but empty air that follows the camera and the occasional bug or bird. Or both.
The Burning man flying backwards back towards the camera and into the dead zone of the building.
Then the other camera cuts to two different people walking into the other camera's zone, but cams obviously moving in the rewind version.
Kai: "Okay stop the camera there and zoom in their faces."
Gary does so the zoom on the camera doesn't get a full picture of them, the colors are too blurred for a good facial recognition of the two people.
A woman blonde, with a black man messy hair.
Kai takes out his phone.
Kai: "We'll send this to Sally at the department and ask her to run a better facial recognition of those two."
Fran nods and heads toward the exit before Kai, as he stares down to his phone typing out the message.
After he sends it Kai walks through the door with his face looking up now.
Fran: "We could grab a bite while we search for this, Burning Man… Or woman from what was seen on the cameras."
Kai nods.
Kai: "Yeah let's do that."
Kai and Fran enter into a hallway and walk for a good three minutes before they run into a door marked employees only.
The door is the type of door where you have to push the handle in and the mechanism would unlock it to push open.
After pushing the door open a crowd is revealed on the other side where they are going in and out of stores shopping in the same mall that The Burning Man wis just in.
Kai and Fran begin through the door Kai holding this door open for Fran as she steps through first and then Kai after.
Fran: I think there would be a food court somewhere on the second story of the mall."
They both begin to walk to in a direction they think they'll find stairs or an elevator.
Kai: "Okay, let's go and get something to eat, I never ate an actual meal since we have been on this mission."
Fran nods.
Fran: "I miss when I could just make you food and you'd be fine with it, now it seems we never have the time of day to do that anymore…"
Fran looks sullen at this fact.
Kai silently agrees.
Kai: "I wanted.. No, needed this position of power. You know why as well. My family died to one of these things. I want it dead… but before that I want to know why it did it in the first place."
Fran: "But the way that your parents died was said to be no way like a Crytid being. It was more of like a human killing them."
Kai shakes his head.
Kai: "That's not true. I saw what I saw that day, nothing could move like that unless it was a crytid or atleast possessed by one."
Kai and Fran end up with a followed silence between them.
They pass many people and find an elevator that only has two more people inside. Kai and Fran stand on one side and the other two on the other.
The elevator dings and Kai leaves the Elevator following Fran, the other two get out behind them.
They continue walking silently in one direction, on the fight pathing to not bump into people coming from the other direction of themselves, the mall today was pretty busy, since many people did come to find The Burning Man, or woman.
In the end The Burning Man or woman ended up leaving the promise of the mall and people just decided to stay and shop for some stuff before they left.
The sun is slowly going down as they finally find the food court.
Kai and Fran walk around the place with all the many different table set out bounc to the ground with chairs ranging from two to six for many people to sit down at them.
The restaurants they pass aren't all that big for them to sit inside of and eat, but just big enough for them to order food, get it in a three compartment to go container, head to a table sit down and eat.
They both decided on an Asian restaurant with a nice red aesthetic making them head in grab what looked like nice Pancit and head to a two seater table.
They sat down and ate for a while, before Fran got tired of the silence between them.
Fran ate some noodles and wiped her face before speaking.
Fran: "I understand what you said about wanting to find the reason behind the death of your parents and I want to help you… but what about your sister..?"
Kai ears perk at those words.
Kai: "What about her?"
Fran: "After many years and she's still never been caught yet… we should focus more on her, than the death of them."
Kai looks angered by those words, but he doesn't say anything, he has never once raised his voice at Fran, she has raised him to be the best at what he does and he respects her, and loves her for that, even though he has never spoke those words before.
Kai: "Mo— Fran, we both understand that she wasn't there, and that she was kidnapped and if anything it's likely that she was kidnapped because…"
Kai's phone rings, just once.
A picture was sent to his phone, then another ring.
Kai opens his phone to see a familiar face, that he had forgotten about until now.
He is also given information on both faces that were in the camera.
Salem: He's a high schooler down in the southern part of Guam. A younger brother named Mickey, that goes to elementary. He has a 4.2 GPA, with a job down at the Mayors office. He was recently working with one of the deceased people you came to investigate Stone the one that committed suicide.
Amelia: She is a student at the same school as Salem, she has a 3.2 GPA and her father is a high man in society but visits to her family are not very frequent. She the only daughter with small traces of autism and a brother that's older than her, a doctor, mother unemployed living off the wages that is given from both the brother and the father.
Kai reads it quickly then gives the phone to Fran.
Fran takes it and reads the phone as Kai cleans himself up and begins to carry his food in the plastic bag that was provided to them.
Fran and Kai hurry outside passing many people, they take an elevator to get outside and when they head to their car Fran catches spot of a homeless guy and walks up to him offering him her food.
Kai stops in his spot, then walks up behind her giving his plate.
Kai and Fran both walk away from him as Fran smiles and waves at the guy.
Kai: "I'll hail a taxi for me to check Salem, I saw how he looked already so I know. I'll forward you the picture of them both and you'll check Amelia."
Fran nods, then she stops in place.
Fran: "Why not go together?"
Kai: "They could be planning an escape off the island."
Right after Kai says that to Fran, they both get a ring from on their cells.
They both pull their cells out of the answer them in sync.
* * *: "It was just confirmed from the government that their will be an attack on Guam, from China. We are going to be extracting you in two hours get ready."
The voice on the other side is distorted.
Kai and Fran look at each other with a devastating look.
Kai and Fran's cellphone pings once more and a map location is on their it, with words saying be there for extraction.
Kai: "Fran these two are very important to the mission. We need to hurry, but if you find yourself unable to get Amelia to the extraction point willingly leave her and head to the extraction."
Fran nods.
Fran: "Same to you My Boy. Please be safe."
Fran puts a hand on Kai's cheek and squeezes once.
Kai puts his hand on Frans hand and nuzzles into it.
Kai: "Yes, I will.. Mom."
Kai holds his hand up to hail a cab in the parking lot of the mall and one stops as Fran let's go of Kai's face. Fran gives Kai a smile as the cab pulls up beside them.
Kai opens the door and steps in. Fran waves, gets into their personal car and turn the engine.
The cab pulls into the highway and begins to drive.
Kai, gets concerned for himself as the innocent driver doesn't know the fate of the island.
Kai: "If possible i'd like for you to go faster."
The driver a woman gives a thumbs up.
After 15 Minutes
For the whole of those fifteen minutes Kai has repeatedly checked his phone for the time as he saw the many passing things to get to his location.
Kai ends up at the location of the house on the outer side of where Salem is said to live, Kai begins to walk the path forward and make his way deeper and deeper into the house areas, with about four or five more houses.
But something grabs his attention a bright light on the hill side behind all the housings.
Not just any bright light, but a bright blue light, that was followed by the yell of a man, a man that sounds like he lost everything.
Then a small childish voice is heard from close by.
* * *: "Please help my big brother…"
