Chapter 24 - Blood In The Binding

The penthouse was no longer silent. Shadows pressed against the fractured glass, their whispers rising into a chorus that shook the walls. Sacrifice. Sacrifice.

Adrian stood at the desk, the leather-bound book open before him. Its faded ink seemed to pulse under the dim light, words shifting as though alive. Elara stood beside him, her gown trailing across the marble floor, her eyes steady despite the tremor in her hands.

"This is the only way," she whispered. "Blood will bind the ritual. It will contain them—if only for a time."

Adrian's jaw tightened. He had built his empire on control, on bending rivals to his will. But now, the curse demanded surrender. He drew a blade from the desk, its edge gleaming faintly.

Elara's breath caught. "It must be yours. Or mine."

Adrian's fury surged. "No. I won't surrender you. And I won't surrender myself."

But the whispers grew louder, pressing against the walls. Choose. Choose.

Adrian's fists clenched. He pressed the blade against his palm, the cut sharp, blood welling. He let it fall onto the pages, crimson staining the faded ink.

For a moment, the whispers softened. The shadows hesitated. Adrian's breath caught, hope flickering.

Then the book trembled. The ink bled, twisting into new words. The whispers rose again, louder, hungrier. Bound. Bound.

Elara staggered back, her eyes wide. "Adrian… they've accepted it. But not as containment. As invitation."

The glass wall cracked again, jagged lines spreading like veins. The chandelier trembled, crystals chiming like bells. Papers flew from the desk, scattering across the floor.

Adrian braced himself, fury burning, but fear gnawed at the edges of his certainty. He had given blood, but instead of weakening the curse, he had bound himself deeper.

And in the reflection, he saw himself—not the empire's ruler, not the man of control, but a figure fading into the faceless crowd, his blood binding him to the spirits forever.
