Alister didn't reply. He only smiled.
'Love me? Why would I need such a thing? You don't understand me at all, Victor.'
Alister put his hands in his pocket and overlooked the city landscape outside the window.
For many years, he had been the detective of the ACPD. He stayed a detective because he wanted to help the people and got rid of the wraiths.
But many things happened and it showed Alister the true face of this world.
The very own government that he served for was the enemy.
Victor squinted his eyes. Alister was a questionable man. A decade of detective work without advancing into higher role. Until now, he couldn't entirely understand Alister.
What did he truly want? Money, fame, or love? It was obviously not the first two. So Victor chose the third one to lure Alister in.
The man reacted to it somewhat. But for some reason, Victor still felt a lingering unease in his heart.
Alister reminded him of someone from the past. A person with integrity.
