Chapter 56 - CHAPTER 50: PARALLELS

(made it to 50)

Overhaul's Base - Meeting Room -

Overhaul stood up. "Since we've concluded our primary business, perhaps you'd like to see the facility and I'll show how the bullets are made as long as you hold up your end of the deal with these drones" he looked at William.

Crane looked at him before getting up as well "sure," he said before turning to basil "you take 6 men and go to the surface of this place keep a lookout and assess these lowel yakuza"

Basil nodded and led his group up through the base following a man Overhaul told to show them the upper level.

Meanwhile, deeper within the facility, Crane and the rest of his force followed Overhaul and Mimic. Crane glanced around and remarked that they had a good base, and that It reminded him of his own headquarters beneath Gotham.

Though his was far larger.

They soon arrived at a manufacturing room, where a line of men worked assembling bullets along a conveyor. Before the rounds were completed, the workers were injected with a syringe containing what appeared to be blood. William watched, fascinated, as Crane turned to Overhaul.

"Is that blood you are using?" Crane asked.

Overhaul shrugged. "Does it matter?"

"Of course not, it just makes more sense how these work now but I wonder what type of quirk an individual would have–" Crane started explaining as he continued walking down the line

Then Overhaul interrupted him and added, "if you'd like, you can see the source for yourselves."

Hero Side - Same Time

The final confirmation came through Nighteye's Foresight.

A member of the Hassaikai had visited a nearby department store to purchase a toy.

"Hey, uh... What's that show little girls are into these days? Glitter somethin or other?"

The cashier maintained a polite and nice stance "Oh, sure, I wonder if you could be thinking about Glitter Squad, maybe?"

He nodded. "Yeah, that's the one! I remember now. It's Squad Action! Glitter Squad! So, you, uh, got any of those?"

"Oh, I'm sorry, sir, the Squad Action! Glitter Squad! series was from a number of years ago. The current series is Gung-Ho! Glitter Squad Ten!"

"Really? Okay, where're those, then?"

"They're right over here," Nighteye had said, materializing at the man's elbow with the ambient quality of someone who had always been standing there.

The man had stared at him. "Whoa, where'd you come from?"

"You were asking about Glitter Squad. I'm a fan, too."

He had used Foresight on the man during the conversation.

"You ended up using Foresight anyway?" Rock Lock said, when this was reported back.

"If you recall, I said I'd use it when our path was more certain."

"Whatever, this means we've got the data we need, right?"

They had the data and they had a warrant, obtained through the police, to search the premises.

"Next step," Centipeder said.

"Is to barge in there!"

"Aw, man! That's my line!"

Nighteye pulled Mirio aside.

"You've been regretting what happened in that alley this whole time, haven't you?"

Mirio looked at the ground before Nighteye continued.

"But I hope you know it's only because you held your ground that we were able to go into this mission fully prepared."

Mirio remained quiet.

"Regret and failure are an inevitable part of life. What's actually important, though, is what you learn from them." Nighteye paused. "I don't know if it's possible to change the future. But... you can change the effect the past has on you. By interpreting your history, it's possible to modify how you view the present."

He looked at Mirio directly.

"Mirio, shine, I know you're someone who can do that."

"This time, for sure," Midoriya said, from a few feet away.

"For sure!"

Nighteye looked at them both. "Now, then. Let's begin."

Overhauls Base - Same Time

Overhaul led them further down, deeper into the compound, to a corridor that grew quieter as they went.

The rest of Crane's Wings held back slightly as Silver's phone buzzed. It was Basil and she answered it quietly, a little confused, stepping to one side.

Then overhaul stopped next to a door and glancing at his new business partners, opened it.

Eri's room was small and clean; it had a small bed, a small television, some basic furniture but the lights were off until Overhaul flicked them on.

Eri was in the bed.

She saw Overhaul first, and looked down scared while trying to make herself as small as possible. Then she saw William, a man in a white doctor's coat but the Pyg gas mask terrified her with its intentionally grotesque details and round glass eyes, and she pressed herself against the wall behind the bed.

William looked at the room then at Eri. "Ah," he said, with the satisfied tone of a man finding out a secret kept from him. "So this is the source." He tilted his head, the mask catching the light in an unpleasant way. "You know she reminds me of something similar, there is this man with a blood quirk that's got some crazy strong healing qualities that we found. Well more like we pretended to rescue him, actually." He laughed under the mask. "He's chained up in our medical wing now, I paralyzed him from the neck down and we have him hooked up for constant blood draws, very efficient if I may say so myself." Then through his mask looked at Eri again after going on this trip down happy memories.

Eri had gone completely still against the wall, her eyes moving between Overhaul and William.

(Eri knows a little bit of english from watching tv while locked in her room I know its not the best excuse lol)

Suguro stepped into the room.

He looked at the girl. She was small, no older than seven he'd guess, with blue-silver hair and wide red eyes, she had bandages visible on her arms above the blanket she'd pulled around herself.

Then a long distant memory flashed in his mind.

He was four years old and small for his age, sitting in the corner of the apartment's main room with his knees pulled up to his chest bruises all over and his head bleeding from his aunt smashing a bottle while hitting him with it . His grandmother was in the kitchen slamming cabinets and yelling about bills and money and the burden of having a child no one wanted, not even his own deadbeat whore mother.

He looked at the girl against the wall.

"Are you scared?" he asked.

Eri looked at him for a moment. Then she nodded, very small.

"Best learn to hide it," Suguro said.

He turned and left the room. William followed, pausing in the doorway to produce a syringe from his coat.

"Can I just take a small sample," William said, in the direction of the bed. "She won't feel—"

"No," Overhaul said.

William pocketed the syringe rolling his eyes under the mask and followed them out. The door closed.

Overhaul then explained what happened with the hero students and how he's looking for a permanent solution to her rebelliousness.

William nodded in understanding, this was why he wanted to know the human drone process not really caring.

In the corridor, Overhaul looked at Suguro. "We don't have a problem, do we?"

"No," Suguro said.

William filled the silence "I killed many kids in my early experiments before I met Crane, so I don't see any issue using this girl as a resource" which caused something to shift in Overhaul's expression that wasn't quite discomfort but was adjacent to it.

Suguro glanced back at the locked door.

He said nothing.

Silver appeared at his shoulder and spoke quietly in his ear.

At the same moment, one of Overhaul's men came quickly down the corridor and spoke to him.

"Boss. It sounds like they've figured out where we are."

Chisaki absorbed this. "So, they're coming. Proceed according to plan."

Suguro stepped forward, his tone turning dark for the first time. "Why is there a hero raid on the same day we came to do business?"

Overhaul paused. "Its got Nothing to do with you, we've been anticipating this but I didn't think it'd be this soon"

He then outlined his plan before an increasingly displeased Suguro interrupted. Then said, "I have a better one but dont think ill bail you out for free..."

He turned to his group. "William, Cameron, and… Roman." He looked at them each briefly. "Take three men, go back to the tunnel entrance, get the vans ready to move the moment I signal."

Roman straightened. "You're sending me away from the fight?"

"I'm sending you because you will be able to sense if any heroes get near the vehicles because even though Overhaul said there was no way the heroes knew about the tunnel we entered by I am taking no chances." Suguro looked at him steadily.

Roman considered this for a moment, then nodded once.

William was already moving, stopping beside Suguro and reaching into his coat.

"Before I go," William said, with the tone of someone offering a gift. "The one Silver and I made, they wont know whats coming"

Silver, standing two feet away, produced an expression of disgust to be reminded of this particular creation's existence.

William held out the "grenade".

It was roughly the size of a large fist, and it looked like something that had been grown rather than built. It was made from lung tissue and veins, pale and eerily preserved, wrapped around a compressed core with a metal pin crudely jammed through the center and the whole thing had a weird pulse to it like it was trying to breathe.

(callback to chapter 41 if you don't remember)

Suguro took it.

William smiled under his mask, which came through entirely in his voice. "The blast radius is approximately twenty feet, try not to waste it."

He turned and headed toward the tunnel access with Cameron and Roman with three of Roman's men falling in behind him.

The case of quirk destroying bullets leaving with them.

Outside Overhaul's Base - Simultaneous

The gathering was visible and growing.

Police vehicles on the perimeter, officers everywhere, and more heroes gathering by the minute.

As Midoriya looked around. "Hey. I haven't seen Gran Torino around here this morning. Do you know where he is?"

"Apparently, he won't be joining us today," Nighteye said. "Tsukauchi's been keeping an eye on the League. According to him, it looks like they're on the move. Fortunately, we have plenty of heroes here, so we can afford to send Gran Torino."

"Maybe we can take down the Hassaikai and the League of Villains at the same time!"

"Oh, yeah!"

"Let's go."

"Not yet."

Midoriya turned.

"Ah, Mr. Eraser Head, sir!"

"I'm teaming up with Nighteye Agency for this. Do you understand me? So, I'll watch you. If you're going to see this through, you gotta do it the right way. Use your head."

"Yes, sir!"

Somewhere Inside The Compound - Same Time

"Sorry, Pops."

He looked at the old man for a moment, then he looked away.

"Things are about to get noisy."

Outside the Compound - Simultaneous

"Once they've read the warrant, then you're free to move! I'm counting on everyone to act swiftly."

"What's with this guy? Over here acting like we don't know our jobs."

"You know that's not what he means, Rock Lock. Give it a rest."

"The real problem," Rock Lock said, scanning the perimeter, "is that these Yakuza bastards are good at living in the shadows. They see all these heroes and the police, they might just disappear."

BOOM!

The gate swung open and a massive man with a bird looking mask came through moving fast and just before the police at the front were pulverised by the impact Aizawa moved them to safety with his scarf.

"Whaddaya want? It's too early for visitors."

"Aw, man! You kidding me? How do they already know we're here?"

"No time for questions. Let's go!"

The man stretched, eyeing up the crowd. "That's good. I'm waking up a little. Brace yourselves."

"Why are you people here?"

Ryukyu transformed and restrained the villian.

"Listen to me, we shouldn't split up too many of our forces yet. The Ryukyu Agency will take care of this villain, the rest of you go!"

The large group of police and heroes then entered the courtyard but instead of finding a mob of low level yakuza goons it was empty…

The lead officer spoke up as he walked closer to the front door of the compound.

"this is the heroes and the police, we have a warrant to search your premises on suspicion of manufacture and sale of illegal drugs"

Still nothing…

Aizawa with many of the higher level heroes and his students then muttered…

"Something's wrong, they clearly haven't left yet that man outside proof so what's going on?"

He was still working out what it meant when the front door of the compound building opened.

Something came through the door before it was then slammed shut again moving in a low arc, thrown from inside, tumbling through the air above the police line gathered in the courtyard between the gate and the building.

It was roughly fist-sized but It looked organic?, like a mound of flesh and veins,

It reached the apex of its arc above the gathered police.

And then—

a massive, piercing shriek
