Chapter 79 - Chapter 78: Mewtwo Project and Attribute Fusion Project

Through Sabrina, Ace also learned that Team Rocket was currently conducting two major genetic research projects.

The first was the Mew Clone Transcendence Project, and the second was the Multi-Attribute Fusion and Reconstruction Project.

"I'm in charge of the Mew gene project." Sabrina said slowly.

Many years ago, a Team Rocket expedition team discovered traces of Mew on a small island in Guyana, South America.

Although they failed to capture Mew at the time, they found a fossil containing Mew's eyelashes.

After bringing the fossil back, Team Rocket planned to extract the genetic information within and create a perfect, ultimate Pokémon, one born purely for battle—one that could even surpass Mew itself.

Thus, this research became known as the Mewtwo Project.

The project relied on cloning technology, continuously replicating and expanding the genetic body, then integrating outstanding battle genes from various Pokémon.

Through repeated screening, optimization, and refinement, the research progressed step by step in a highly systematic manner.

However, the cost of this project was staggering.

Even Team Rocket could only advance it gradually—it was impossible to complete in a short time.

After many years, the experiment was already approaching its final stage.

Yet there was still one critical problem.

To perfectly stabilize all the fused genes, they needed an extremely powerful genetic binder.

Without it, even if a Pokémon named Mewtwo was successfully born, it would be highly unstable.

And the most suitable binder was—Mew's own genes.

This was also the reason Sabrina had personally led teams to search for Mew again.

"I see…" Ace nodded slowly.

He had encountered Mew before.

A mischievous little Mew that had even… given him head.

And it was incredibly greedy.

"So the research is stuck at the most critical stage right now?" Ace asked.

"Mmm." Sabrina nodded. "And there's another issue—the lead researcher changed."

"Hm?" Ace frowned. "What happened?"

Sabrina explained.

After Mewtwo developed self-awareness, it instinctively resisted Team Rocket's control.

The original laboratory had been located on New Island.

During the earliest phase of the experiment, the lead scientist was Dr. Fuji, who had hoped to use cloning technology to resurrect his deceased daughter.

In the end, he failed.

Mewtwo went berserk, destroying the entire New Island laboratory and bringing the first phase of the experiment to an end.

Later, Team Rocket managed to regain control of Mewtwo and launched the second phase of research.

Using the genetic database, they continued refining Mewtwo's form.

This time, the project was taken over by Professor Elm, a high-ranking scientist within the organization.

"Professor Elm, huh…" Ace murmured.

Everything clicked into place.

In the anime, Mewtwo was created by Dr. Fuji.

In the manga and games, however, Mewtwo was created by Professor Elm—the founder of the Cinnabar Island Research Lab and former Cinnabar Gym Leader.

In the manga canon, Professor Elm was originally a member of Team Rocket and a highly respected scientist.

He was also an old-generation Trainer with Elite-level strength, a contemporary of Professor Oak.

Professor Elm and Dr. Fuji were close friends—there was even an Easter egg photo of the two together in Guyana.

Clearly, in this world, Dr. Fuji and Professor Elm had worked together to create Mewtwo.

The issue of Mewtwo's genetic instability had also been clearly depicted in the manga.

In the end, Professor Elm chose to merge his own genes with the incomplete Mewtwo, forming a blood connection that temporarily made him Mewtwo's exclusive Trainer.

"Is the Mewtwo experiment still on New Island?" Ace asked. "Or has it been moved to Cinnabar Island?"

"At the Cinnabar Research Lab," Sabrina replied, narrowing her eyes.

"But Giovanni has already ordered Professor Elm to transfer all equipment to the Celadon City base."

She continued calmly, "According to our intelligence, Professor Elm may be considering leaving the organization."

The last time Sabrina brought Ace back to Team Rocket HQ, Giovanni had personally discussed this issue with her.

The Mewtwo Project could not afford to fail.

If anyone other than Professor Elm took over, the risk of catastrophic failure would increase dramatically.

Thus, the optimal solution was to temporarily use Sabrina's Psychic powers to control Professor Elm.

"Inform me immediately if there's any movement," Ace said.

As he listened, Ace's eyes flickered.

Mewtwo was a Pokémon he was determined to obtain.

He even wondered—could he redesign Mewtwo to be female?

After all, a humanoid Psychic Pokémon was… extremely appealing to him.

"Next, let's talk about the other project," Sabrina said softly.

"The Attribute Fusion Project."

"Alright."

For the man who could stab her until she completely lost combat capability, Sabrina held nothing back.

The Attribute Fusion Project involved extracting elemental attributes from different Pokémon and forcibly fusing them into a single body.

The primary experimental subject was—Eevee.

As an evolutionary Pokémon, Eevee's genes were exceptionally unstable, with multiple evolutionary branches, making it an ideal vessel for attribute fusion.

At the current point in time, only five Eeveelutions were known in the Kanto region:

Flareon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Espeon, and Umbreon.

Team Rocket's current focus was on Fire, Ice, and Electric attribute fusion.

"Giovanni has always wanted to touch true divine power," Sabrina said.

"He plans to capture Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, and use the fusion of these three attributes to create a terrifying existence—one that is divine… or even beyond divine."

"Beyond divine?" Ace was startled.

In the manga, Giovanni had indeed succeeded.

He not only created an Eevee capable of multiple evolutions, but also forcibly fused Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres into a single three-headed divine bird.

In the end, the fusion Pokémon was defeated, the Legendary Birds were rescued, and the special Eevee—due to severe genetic instability—was taken by Red.

Although that Eevee could evolve into multiple forms, the process caused unbearable pain, so Red ultimately evolved it into Espeon.

As Ace pondered this, the Luxury Ball at his waist trembled lightly.

He reached out and gently stroked it.

Rapidash was reminding him.

And Ace hadn't forgotten his promise—to help her rescue her good friend, Eevee.

Sabrina wasn't clear on the exact details of the Eevee experiment, so Ace asked her to investigate further and notify him once new information surfaced.

Their confidential conversation came to an end.

By this point, they had reached the passage from the third underground floor to the first underground floor.

"Oof—!"

As the door opened, a Team Rocket Grunt accidentally bumped into Ace.

After a wild night with Sabrina and multiple Spirit Maidens, Ace's clothes were slightly disheveled, and a prismatic feather tucked near his chest slipped out.

"S-Sorry… sorry…"

The Grunt hurriedly picked it up and handed it back, head lowered.

The hands were fair and nimble—yet the uniform clearly marked the Grunt as male.

Ace accepted the feather silently, cursing his own perverted carelessness inwardly, while verbally brushing it off.

He didn't notice the Grunt's expression—

Familiar.

Complex.

And faintly shocked.

Just as the Grunt was about to quietly leave, Sabrina suddenly spoke.

"Stop."
