Chapter 2 - ceremony

Edin Shan pushed himself up from the chair, breathing slow, eyes scanning the empty room.

His gaze landed on the desk.

A gun.

And a letter.

Nothing else.

He stepped closer.

The gun was black all over, with gold tracing the edges

sleek, sharp, almost ceremonial.

Edin picked it up.

"What… is this?

Where am I?

And how did I get here?"

He dropped the gun back onto the desk and kept looking around.

Beside the letter, he noticed a badge

black, marked with a strange symbol.

He picked the badge up, slipped it into his pocket.

His mind raced.

Is this some kind of prank? Why am I here? What's really going on?

He stopped in front of the shattered mirror near the door.

The moment he stared into it, his eyes widened.

The face staring back wasn't fully his.

He touched his head pain flared instantly.

His whole body trembled as if bruised from the inside out.

"What is this…?

What's inside my face?

Why does everything hurt?"

For a heartbeat he froze, mind blank, trying to remember how he ended up here.

Then something clicked.

He spun back to the desk, grabbed the letter, and tore it open.

Maybe this explains what's happening. This better not be some stupid game.

He unfolded it, hoping for answers.

The handwriting inside was messy but familiar.

**"To Quinn Morrow,

I'm writing this so you don't forget

we have a ceremony today.

A big one. An honor event for officers ranking up.

We've been in the Holy Knight Order for a long time, and today many of us move up.

And in case you forget my name again

it's me, Klaus.

I know how you are, so I wrote this just to remind you.

Don't miss it.

Sincerely, your friend,

Klaus."**

"Quinn… Morrow?"

Edin whispered.

"What the hell?

Who is Quinn Morrow?

Is that supposed to be me?

Why can't I remember anything?"

He clenched the letter.

"My name is Edin Shan…

I know that.

So what's all this?"

Maybe it was a game.

A twisted, elaborate setup.

He grabbed the gold-and-black gun again and looked into the mirror.

A uniform stared back at him dark coat, polished trim, a holster at his waist.

He slid the gun into it.

"Yeah… this has to be some prank.

I'll walk outside and see the cameras.

People will laugh

'got you!' or something."

He yanked the door open and stormed out.

Down the stairs, across the hall, pushing through another door

and when he stepped outside, he froze.

A horse-drawn carriage thundered past him.

The buildings were old, towering with strange designs.

People walked by in clothes from another era long gowns, heavy coats, sharp hats.

A man read a newspaper in a language he didn't recognize.

Everything was different.

"What the hell…

This can't be real…"

He lowered his head and kept walking, trying not to panic.

People moved aside as he approached

not because they knew him,

but because of the uniform he wore.

"Why's everyone avoiding me?

No… it's the uniform.

They're scared of whoever I'm supposed to be."

He turned into a narrow side street.

A small group of beggars sat on the ground, metal dishes in hand.

Edin looked at them, then quickly looked away, walking straight through.

This can't be real. It can't. I don't even know where I am.

As he stepped out of the alley, someone stood waiting for him.

His body reacted instantly, like it recognized the person

but his mind and soul had no idea who they were.

Edin turned his head

and the man standing there was Klaus.

He didn't recognize him.

Not even a little.

Klaus stared at him for a moment… then suddenly grabbed him by the arm and dragged him to the side street.

"Quinn!

Bro, I've been waiting for hours.

You always take forever."

Edin blinked at him for a few seconds.

"Do… do I know you?

What's your name?

And where is this place?"

Klaus froze, confused, then laughed and smacked Edin lightly on the back.

"Quinn, seriously?

You forget things a lot, but come on.

How can you forget my name?

We've been friends since we were kids!"

Edin just stared at him, eyes wide, saying nothing.

Klaus raised his hands.

"Alright, alright, fine.

If you're playing that game

My name is Klaus."

He leaned closer.

"And right now, stranger…

you're in the Crimson Default Kingdom of Valhalla."

Edin's breath caught.

Kingdom? Not country?

What the hell is going on?

What even is Valhalla?

And why does he keep calling me Quinn Morrow?

"But my name is Edin Shan…" he whispered to himself.

His thoughts swirled wildly.

So I'm Quinn Morrow now?

But how do I know this guy?

No relax. Play cool.

Act like you know what's happening.

He forced a laugh.

"Just kidding, bro. Just playing with you."

Klaus sighed with relief, then burst out laughing.

"I knew it! I knew you were joking.

Man, don't scare me like that."

They both laughed for a moment.

Then

"So," Klaus said, "let's get going. We're late."

"Going where?" Edin asked.

Klaus stared at him.

"You're joking again?

The ceremony, obviously!

Didn't you read the letter?"

"Oh oh yeah! That letter.

Totally got it. I read it."

Klaus narrowed his eyes.

"Quinn… what's with you today?

You hate jokes.

Now you're acting like a clown."

They walked down the street, eventually reaching a tall building draped in banners.

Knights in uniform passed by shiny armor, polished boots, strict posture.

People carried flowers, documents, weapons.

This was clearly the Holy Knight Ranking Ceremony.

Klaus's face lit up.

"This is it!

We did it!

Today we move up in rank!"

Edin wasn't listening.

His mind spiraled.

I have to stay calm…

I'm inside someone else's body.

I'm Quinn Morrow now…

But I don't remember anything about him.

I only remember my life my past.

Did I lose my memory?

Or did I take his body after dying?

Did I die?

Did I get hit by a car?

A word flashed in his mind

TRANSMIGRATION.

What does that mean?

I need answers. I need a phone.

No… they probably don't have phones here.

Do they even have technology?

Internet? Libraries?

I need a library.

Where the hell is a library?

He was drowning in his own thoughts.

Klaus frowned.

"Quinn?

Yo, Quinn!

What's going on in that head of yours?

You look like you're trapped in your own brain."

Edin didn't respond still lost in thought.

So Klaus smacked him hard on the back.

Edin spun around.

"What the hell ?!"

Then he remembered.

This isn't my body. I have to act.

"Oh uh, sorry.

I was just wondering if… if I'm getting promoted."

Even he couldn't believe the words coming out of his mouth.

Klaus sighed.

"I see…"

Silence settled

until a loud voice cut through the hall.

"Officers!"

Klaus snapped to attention. "Yes, sir!"

Edin had no choice but to follow.

"Sir yes, sir!"

They rushed toward the senior officer who had called them.

The man glared.

"This is the Holy Knight Ceremony,

and you two are standing here doing NOTHING?"

Klaus bowed his head and saluted.

"Sorry, sir!"

Edin stayed frozen, staring at the man.

The officer stepped closer.

"Look at me when I speak, you worthless fool!"

Klaus quickly bowed again.

"Sorry, sir!

He's new an under-ranked knight.

He doesn't know the rules yet."

Edin swallowed hard, bowed his head, and saluted.

"My apologies, sir."

The senior officer scoffed and walked away.

Klaus grabbed Edin by the arm.

"What's your problem?!

You know your sister is the Commander of the Holy Knight Order!

If you mess up or insult an upper knight,

they'll report you to her and you know how your family is."

He sighed.

"They only care about their family name.

That's why they abandoned you before…"

Edin froze.

My sister?

Quinn Morrow has a sister?

A commander?

He forced a calm smile.

"Oh… right.

Don't worry.

I'll behave myself."
