"Oh...we just talked about a lot of...random stuff, I guess?" Ian told Eugene afterward, when they finished the birthday lunch and were enjoying the cakes on the patio. "And about you."
Eugene arched his brow. "Me?"
"Since you're pregnant now, like...what to do in an emergency when Arthur isn't there, or if Arthur is too stunned to do anything," Ian said, smiling softly while fiddling with his phone. "She gave me several numbers I can call in that case."
"I see..." Eugene glanced at his husband, who was still the object of the children's—with extra energy from the sugar—roleplay.
Arthur was a reliable alpha, but Eugene did sometimes question if the man wouldn't freeze in dread if something happened to him. He remembered how overwhelmed the alpha was when the man thought he had gotten into an accident while they were abroad before. Perhaps the alpha instinct would take over, but...what if being bonded amplified the fear instead?
