Chapter 65 - Tale of the Great Hero

In the year 300, on the 1st day of the 2nd month, the entirety of Demonkind attacked Stritant, the main continent where the humans, demihumans, and elves lived together in harmony. No one knew where they came from, many speculate that they crawled from the gates of hell and entered the main world.

Along with the demons themselves, their wretched pets, of different shapes and sizes, often mimicking the creatures from Stritant, also manifested. Those were the manabeasts. They took, and haunted, and struck, and killed.

Years passed, and the continent was beginning to corrupt. The soil became wretched, the forests overrun by manabeast and demons. Waters could not even be drank from. The humans, demihumans, and elves were pushed deep into the center of the continent.

That was until a god came. It was Ogthos, the giving one.

A revelation was given to one man. That man built a church. And with that church, came hope. Many gods came after, influencing the general population, and filling the diseased hearts of the non-demon residents of Stritant with hope.

Emboldened by the hope of the people, a man came.

That man, was Hero Lincoln.

.

In what would be modern day western Venichian.

The year was 385.

Lincoln sat quietly in a wooden cellar, far beneath the surface. He was a quiet man, his hair was white and his eyes shone golden. A handsome man, incredibly popular in his hometown. However, all of that was thrown away, in the war. His hometown was ripped into shreds, several years ago, taking his entire family away from him. He was all that remained. So, he decided to fight.

The King of the Stritant Union stood in front of him.

"We have managed to reach the edge of this continent, reclaiming it back. Despite this, across the seas, the manabeasts and demons continue to strike us. There is one solution, and that is to rid it from the source."

"My king… you are aware of the danger that you are insinuating, right? No one has came back from those waters. There is no land beyond that stretch of water!"

"The portal to the underworld. It'll likely be there, at the edge of the world. Once you reach it, you'll slay the Demon King. I can entrust this onto you, because I know of your strength.

"Here, is the sword that has been prepared for you. With this, the Demon King's head will be lopped off with ease."

A long black box was handed to Lincoln, placed on a table in front of him. He grabbed the box, opening it slowly.

An incredible sword revealed itself. It was as large as the king in front of Lincoln. The metal was clean and white; finely polished. There were intricate designs, demonstrating expert craftsmanship. The hilt was thick and wrapped in leather.

With the sword blessed by the great god Ogthos, Lincoln went on his way, traversing through the treacherous seas, and slaying the Demon King, returning back to Stritant. With that, the Demon War ended.

"Anything? It's a story that even I'm familiar with," Arlene asked.

"Nope. It's not ringing a bell. Liona? Never heard of her."

"Did we… read the same book?" she sighed.

"General Yesynore is feeling quite generous today!" Kai Veloz smiled.

Leah, Kai, and Oscar all sat at the table of a luxurious restaurant. They were all dressed in a black tuxedo over a white dress shirt. General Yesynore wore his military dress uniform; a green coat speckled with medals and different adornments, all showing the experience and grit of the General.

Oscar had cut his long hair recently, and he was starting to look like a proper cadet.

"Did you really have to cut it all off…?" Kai complained. Yesynore laughed.

"How come we aren't wearing our dress uniforms?" Leah asked. She grabbed a fork incorrectly, spinning a ball of pasta and consuming it in one go.

"The dress uniforms of the entire battalion are being remade," he explained.

The special occasion of tomorrow that they were preparing for was the award ceremony that was happening at the capital. That is the reason behind General Yesynore treating them to such a place. For the three young cadets, it was the first time they had ever eaten at such a place, which could be understood by their mannerisms. From afar, anyone would see the kids as country bumpkins, which they were.

Kai had a bit of an understanding of proper etiquette, as shown in the books he used to read as a child. So, he could hold up with General Eyesore's excellence.

"What exactly did we do, anyway?" Oscar asked. Leah and Kai turned to him, confused.

"Are you kidding me, Oscar?" Leah inquired.

"We heavily limited the causalities that happened in that one city!" Kai finally explained.

"You three have done quite an amazing job. Especially you, Oscar. So eat till your heart is content. I've never seen a group of Privates that deserve it more than you," Yesynore said.

Oscar nodded, a small smile forming on his face. He did just as Yesynore suggested, he ate, and ate, along with Kai and Leah.
