Adam's gaze drifted to Lilith, curled beside him with her head resting against his shoulder. Her breathing was slow and even, her silver-threaded gown rising and falling gently with each breath. The fierce, teasing woman from moments ago had vanished, replaced by something softer—almost vulnerable.
'She's exhausted,' Adam thought, his internal voice quiet. 'Yesterday really took a lot out of her.'
His hand moved unconsciously, brushing a strand of pale hair from her face. She didn't stir.
Then a voice drifted from behind him, barely a whisper.
"Finally... some peace and quiet."
Isolde's hood was still pulled low, but Adam caught the faint curve of her lips beneath the shadow. She was watching the clouds, her pale eyes distant.
Adam glanced back at her. "Are you enjoying the trip?"
Isolde's expression flickered—surprise, perhaps, that he had heard her. Then she shrugged, the motion casual.
"Not bad. Better than the last time I flew."
Adam's eyebrows rose. "Hee. You can fly?"
