Adam's eyes remained fixed on Lilith's face, his heart pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribs. 'Damn... she's already lost her mind.'
Lilith didn't seem to notice his internal panic. She leaned closer, her nose brushing against his neck Inhaling his scent like it was the only thing keeping her tethered to sanity.
"You smell... different." Her voice was a whisper, warm against his skin. "Like blood. And something else." She pulled back slightly, her crimson eyes searching his face. "Something new."
Adam's throat bobbed. "I've been traveling. Probably picked up... scents."
Lilith's lips curved. She didn't look convinced.
Then she wrapped her arms around him, pressing her body against his chest, her face buried in the curve of his shoulder. Her grip was fierce almost desperate.
"This is your punishment," she murmured, her voice muffled against his clothes. "For leaving me behind."
