Chapter 61 - Chapter 60: The Cursed Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor

As the two continued watching, the third question quickly appeared before them.

Outside, Professor Snape, Cedric Diggory, and Aiden, hidden under the Invisibility Cloak, were observing everything through the projected screen.

"Please listen to the question. A curse has existed at Hogwarts for many years. Very few wizards who apply for the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor position are able to complete a full year. Most encounter various accidents, including death, as their one-year term comes to an end. So, who cursed the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor position at Hogwarts?"

"A. Tom Riddle"

"B. Albus Dumbledore"

"C. Severus Snape"

"D. Gellert Grindelwald"

As soon as the question appeared, both Tom Riddle and Dumbledore picked up their pens and paper.

They understood that whoever wrote faster would gain the right to answer.

Although Tom reacted quickly, he still could not match Dumbledore, who immediately wrote down his answer the moment the question and first option appeared.

"When determining simultaneous responses, Dumbledore was faster. Dumbledore will answer this question."

"For the next question, the system will randomly select one of the two participants to answer, with a fixed answering order. This issue will be corrected moving forward."

These two statements from the [Live Broadcast Q&A System] might not seem significant to others.

However, those who had experienced it, including Aiden, understood something important.

The system was actively correcting its own flaws.

It was like a newly born entity gradually improving itself through constant trial and error.

"This is very strange. I originally thought this system was a complete and mature product of ancient wizard alchemy."

"But now it feels like something unfinished, still in an experimental stage."

Severus Snape stepped forward and tried to touch the projected screen with his wand.

He failed.

The screen displaying the Q&A space could not be touched and could not be interfered with by magic.

None of the professors could sense any magical fluctuations from it either.

Strange. Extremely strange.

Perhaps only the legendary alchemist Nicolas Flamel could uncover something from it.

Unfortunately, Nicolas Flamel's whereabouts were unknown.

Aside from Dumbledore, no one knew where he was.

Some believed he was already dead.

After the Philosopher's Stone was destroyed and the Elixir of Life was no longer available, many believed the legendary alchemist had simply faded away.

This had become the widely accepted view in the wizarding world.

After hearing Snape's analysis, Gilderoy Lockhart, who had previously experienced the system, spoke with rare seriousness.

"You're right, Professor Snape."

"This system seems to be repairing or evolving itself through this process."

"So what do you think it really is?"

"An ancient magical creation, or a key to a new era?"

For once, the usually flamboyant Lockhart sounded composed.

The change made Snape visibly uncomfortable.

Although he normally enjoyed mocking people he disliked, he only gave Lockhart a cold glance this time.

"I don't know. It's too mysterious."

On the other side, Aiden had already broken into a cold sweat as the professors analyzed the situation.

He had completely underestimated how sharp Snape's perception was and how fast his reasoning worked.

Even Aiden couldn't help but silently comment on it.

Snape truly lived up to his reputation as someone who had moved between the Dark Lord and the leader of the Order of the Phoenix for over a decade.

His analytical ability was exceptional.

When Aiden first obtained the [Live Broadcast Q&A System], he had already felt that something about the quiz format was off.

During the first session, when he hosted it himself, the system behaved like a rigid machine, strictly following its preset rules.

But now, things were different.

This time, the system had actually rejected him as the host.

At first, Aiden felt confused rather than afraid.

Now, however, things were becoming clearer.

The system was evolving on its own.

It was constantly improving.

Whether that would become a blessing or a disaster for him was still unknown.

For now, however, the system was closely tied to Aiden's recovery of his memories.

It had also given him something else.

Hope.

The hope of becoming a wizard on Dumbledore's level.

No, surpassing that level entirely.

For that, Aiden could only continue watching.

"Professor, do you really know who cursed the Defense Against the Dark Arts position?"

Tom Riddle set down his pen.

He did not actually know the answer and only had a vague suspicion.

That hesitation earlier had cost him the chance to answer first.

"Isn't it you, Tom?"

"The future you. The one who becomes Lord Voldemort."

Dumbledore spoke calmly.

A memory surfaced in his mind.

A pale young man stood before him, his eyes bloodshot, occasionally flickering with madness.

At that time, Dumbledore had already become Headmaster of Hogwarts.

Tom Riddle had returned after more than a decade of traveling abroad.

But this time, he had come back to apply for a position.

The position he wanted was Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor.

Because of his distrust of Tom and other concerns, Dumbledore refused him.
