Aiden and Cedric Diggory instinctively slowed their pace. The hissing felt like invisible hands gripping their hearts, making them afraid to even breathe.
Earlier, Cedric had wanted to ask Aiden what was going on.
From the serious expression on Aiden's face, it was clear he knew something—just like the secret he had mentioned before. If Cedric hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would still have had doubts, no matter how close they were.
It wasn't suspicion, but rather human instinct—stubbornness, a bit of naivety, and a lingering hope.
However, after catching that brief glimpse of black, Cedric believed Aiden's words.
That massive black form had only appeared for a few seconds before disappearing downstairs, but those few seconds were enough for Cedric to guess what it was.

He had no intention of walking straight into the lavatory. No one knew if Ginny Weasley might notice them.
Rather than risk facing the Basilisk inside, it was better to wait here.
Aiden was certain Ginny would come out after releasing the Basilisk into the Chamber of Secrets.
When that happened, he and Cedric could ambush her, knock her out, and retrieve Tom Riddle's diary.
As for whether to destroy the Horcrux immediately or keep it for later—that could be decided afterward.
Cedric didn't have enough information to object. He trusted Aiden and believed he knew far more than he did.
Looking at his friend, Cedric felt something strange.
The Aiden he knew—simple and straightforward—seemed to overlap with the Aiden before him now, whose narrowed eyes held a sharp, calculating glint.
It felt almost unreal.
Cedric couldn't tell which one was the real Aiden, or if the version he had known before had just been a disguise.

A soft sound came from inside.
Cedric snapped out of his thoughts and immediately focused.
He saw a flicker of excitement in Aiden's eyes.
A different kind of excitement.
Facing danger—knowing the Basilisk could return at any moment—Aiden couldn't hide it anymore.
A beautifully crafted wand appeared in his right hand, aimed at the entrance of the girls' lavatory.
Seeing this, Cedric also drew his wand.
Another roar echoed from inside.
Aiden's breathing grew heavier. He was ready to cast Stupefy at any moment.
The Invisibility Cloak concealed their bodies—but not their eyes.
Aiden hesitated for a brief moment, then made a decision and pulled Cedric forward a few more steps.
Meanwhile, Harry stood frozen in place.
In the dim light, he couldn't see Aiden and Cedric at all.
He didn't dare move forward.
He waited.
When Aiden shifted again, faint traces of the cloak became visible.
Harry's eyes lit up.
Carefully, he followed.
Up ahead, Aiden and Cedric were completely focused on what lay before them. Harry moved quietly, and his Invisibility Cloak helped conceal him well.
Neither of them noticed the silent figure trailing behind.
