The city had already begun to fracture. Monsters weren't organized. They didn't need to be.
They tore through whatever they found, cars overturned like toys, storefronts ripped open, the ground itself clawed apart in places where something had forced its way through.
Lucien stepped into it without breaking stride.
A creature lunged but didn't get the chance to make contact.
Water snapped forward, sharp and controlled, slicing clean through its torso before it could even reach him. The body hit the ground in two uneven halves.
He didn't look at it, he didn't need to.
"Left side—two incoming," someone called.
"I see them."
He moved again, his movements fluid and precise. Every motion was deliberate.
The team followed his rhythm.
That was the difference. It wasn't just a matter of strength or ability. It was simply controlled.
