On the land, time had moved differently.
What felt like only a few minutes to Soren had already turned into days. The world had not waited for him and when he finally began to wake, it felt like he was being pulled back into a body that no longer fit him.
His breathing came first then the weight of his limbs followed, feeling heavy as if each part of him had been asleep far longer than he realized. His fingers twitched weakly against the sheets and his brows furrowed slightly before his eyes finally opened.
The light stung.
For a moment, everything was unclear. Just shapes and shadows blending together but as his vision slowly adjusted, two figures began to form at his bedside.
He stared at them.
It wasn't Elias, Caelius nor Gideon.
His gaze lingered, unfocused at first, then slowly sharpening.
Then finally, he saw who it was.
Lyric and Sylas, the twin Lords of Davenmore.
