The fear did not disappear all at once.

Like glass cracking beneath pressure that had been building for years.

By evening, the city no longer moved like a population waiting for permission to survive. The demonstrations that began as outrage earlier in the day had transformed into something far more dangerous to the system.

Unity.

Entire districts flooded with civilians carrying portable lights, emergency medical kits, food containers, communication relays, anything they could move through the fractured streets to keep disconnected sectors alive. Public transit routes reopened manually across resistant zones while infrastructure workers bypassed centralized restrictions openly now, no longer even pretending loyalty to system directives.

The city had crossed a line emotionally.

People were no longer asking whether the system would retaliate.

They were acting despite knowing it would.
