My fingers slowly slid through her hair. "You bark when I tell you to." They moved lower. "You wag your tail when I say." I leaned even closer. "And you sit... the moment I snap my fingers."
The colour drained from her face. Slowly, I lowered my mouth beside her ear. "Don't ever forget that." My voice dropped to a whisper. "You're nothing more than that."
A long pause settled between us. "So the next time you mistake my silence for affection... remember your place."
Slowly, I pulled away. Then… I pressed a slow kiss against her forehead. Not out of love. Out of ownership. She went perfectly still beneath my touch.
Good. She understood.
I stepped back and took in the way her expression had softened. "Now..." A faint smile tugged at my lips. "What were we saying?"
