Linn screamed.
It wasn't the scream of fear this time.
It was everything.
Every ounce of grief, confusion, anger, guilt, and helplessness she had kept buried since waking up finally burst out of her. Her voice tore through the forest, echoing between the snow-covered trees as she screamed until her throat hurt.
The ground responded.
A familiar tremor began beneath her feet.
The snow shifted.
The enormous log behind her creaked as the earth shook around it.
Another tremor followed, stronger this time.
Back at the House of Mork, everyone immediately felt it.
The mansion shook.
The furniture rattled, loose pieces of debris fell from the damaged walls, and the windows trembled in their frames. The familiar sensation sent panic through the room almost instantly.
"It's happening again!"
"She's doing it!"
"Get away from the walls!"
Several of them instinctively prepared themselves, uncertain whether another eruption of black tendrils was about to tear through the mansion.
