"You became too angsty," Seravine said, her voice smooth and damning. "The loss of our forces made you greedy. So you slipped, thinking the failing authority of the King could no longer punish you."

"I slipped?" Eddran's eyebrows furrowed violently, his hollow eyes suddenly sharpening with a manic, defensive fire. "No... no, that's wrong! I didn't slip! My strategy was flawless! The logistics, the timing, the political pressure—everything went perfectly!"

He violently threw his head to the side, his venomous glare locking onto the man leaning casually in the corner.
