"So, what have you been up to?"
Cael approached Evelina, who was suspiciously smiling and swirling wine in her hand, her gaze fixed on two figures currently dancing and attracting a crowd.
"Nothing. Just looking at Phoenix and Nyra."
"Those two? When did they get close?"
"They didn't. I just gave Nyra a little push to comfort Phoenix before he makes a scene. Kevin and Vivianne can't exactly confess with trouble hanging around, after all."
"Still not done with your romance stuff, huh?"
"Not even close."
Cael followed her gaze across the ballroom floor.
Phoenix and Nyra moved through the waltz with an ease that surprised him. He hadn't expected the Senior Council President to be such a skilled dancer, or perhaps Phoenix was simply good enough to compensate for any missteps.
Either way, they made an odd pair.
Fire and wind, some might say. If they were feeling poetic.
"You really can't help yourself, can you?" Cael asked.
"Help myself with what?"
"Meddling, obviously."
