ALLURA'S POV
I descended the dark, narrow stairs out of the basement, unable to believe my own eyes. Tears streamed down my face like a heavy downpour, blurring the familiar hallways of the estate into smeared strokes of color and shadow.
It seemed I had truly let myself down by expecting anything from him; by believing, even for a fleeting second, that what we shared was real. How pathetic it was to expect more from a man who had never truly given me his whole heart.
Was I born simply to be sidelined for other women? Was that my permanent place in this life, a recurring secondary character in someone else's love story?
The question clung to my life like an unsolved puzzle, stripped of any hope or promise of ever being solved. Every time I thought I had found solid ground, the floor was pulled out from under me.
