Part 3 — Possibility of War
For a few moments, nobody spoke.
Outside the windows, distant shinobi still occasionally moved across the rooftops.
The village remained tense.
Still mobilized.
Still waiting.
Daigo looked at the class quietly.
Then reached for the chalk again.
"…That's enough history for now."
His tone was calm.
Normal.
Like he was trying to return the classroom to routine again.
But nobody truly relaxed.
The atmosphere from last night still lingered too heavily in the room.
Daigo began writing another lesson across the board.
A few students tried focusing.
Others stared blankly at their desks.
Near the back, Souta quietly mumbled to himself again.
"…What if it becomes another war…"
This time, several students heard him.
And nobody told him to stop.
Daichi's hands tightened slightly.
Yuna lowered her gaze.
Even Izumi's reassuring expression weakened for a moment.
Daigo continued writing for another few seconds before finally stopping.
Without turning around, he spoke calmly.
"…Panicking about possibilities won't help you."
The room stayed quiet.
Then he looked back at them.
"…Right now, the academy is still functioning normally."
"…That alone should tell you something."
Some students seemed to calm slightly hearing that.
But not completely.
Because even Daigo's voice carried tension underneath it.
A hand slowly raised near the center row.
Riku.
Daigo nodded once.
"…What is it?"
Riku hesitated briefly before speaking.
"…If things get worse…"
His voice lowered slightly.
"…Would students like us be forced into early graduation too?"
The entire classroom went still.
Even the students trying not to listen looked up immediately.
Haruto's shoulders stiffened.
Kaito's expression tightened slightly.
Ayame stayed silent—
but her eyes shifted toward Daigo carefully.
The question hung heavily in the room.
Because everyone wanted the answer.
Daigo didn't respond immediately.
That hesitation alone frightened some of them.
Then finally—
"…Eight years ago, the situation was different."
His voice remained steady.
"…The war conditions back then escalated faster than expected."
He glanced briefly toward the board where Era 7 and Era 8 were still written.
"…Emergency graduation procedures were activated because the village didn't have enough operational shinobi at the time."
Several students lowered their eyes hearing that.
Daigo continued calmly.
"…The current mobilization is specifically trying to avoid repeating that situation."
Daichi immediately spoke.
"…So it can still happen?"
His voice sounded smaller than usual.
Daigo looked at him quietly.
"…If the village believed there was absolutely no possibility…"
"…mobilization would never have begun in the first place."
The room became completely silent again.
Haruto lowered his gaze slightly.
That answer had been honest.
Too honest.
Outside, another group of shinobi crossed the distant rooftops.
Not loudly.
But enough for several students to instinctively glance toward the windows again.
Haruto's fingers tightened slightly against the edge of his desk.
Daigo noticed immediately.
The way Haruto reacted to every sudden movement now.
Like his fear was sitting just beneath the surface waiting for one more push.
Then unexpectedly—
Izumi stood up slightly.
"…But nothing has happened inside the village yet."
Several students looked toward her.
Even she looked nervous saying it.
But she continued anyway.
"…There are shinobi everywhere right now."
"…Barrier patrols too."
Yuna nodded beside her quickly.
"…Yeah… and if they already prepared this much…"
"…then maybe that means we're safer now."
The room stayed quiet for a moment.
Then slowly—
some students seemed to breathe a little easier.
Not because the fear disappeared.
But because someone finally said something hopeful aloud.
Even Daigo watched them carefully for a second.
Then gave a small nod.
"…Correct."
That single word immediately stabilized the room slightly.
Daigo folded his arms.
"…Mobilization exists to prevent disaster."
"…Not announce defeat."
The tension eased—
just a little.
Not enough to feel normal.
But enough for the students to stop spiraling deeper.
Then Kaito quietly spoke for the first time in a while.
"…So if everyone does their job…"
He looked down slightly.
"…then maybe things can go back to normal again."
The room fell quiet again after that.
Because despite everything—
that was what almost all of them wanted most.
Normal.
Lunches.
Classes.
Training.
Going home safely.
Simple things that suddenly felt fragile.
