At the Golden Dawn Entertainment Group...
Zane Blackwood held a big meeting with all his top bosses, including Victor, Donna, and Alexander.
He had a huge announcement to make.
"First," Zane said, "we're creating a new company called the Golden Dawn Television Group. It will be the main boss of both of our TV networks—UPN and the WB."
Everyone nodded. This was a big, smart move.
"And," Zane continued, "I am promoting Ms. Donna Langley to be the new CEO of this Television Group. She will be in charge of both networks."
Everyone was stunned for a second, and then they all burst into applause!
"Congratulations, Ms. Donna!" Victor said, being the first to shake her hand.
"Thank you," Donna said, her voice full of excitement. She was so happy! She knew that in Hollywood, it was very, very hard for a woman to get a top job like this. She turned to Zane, her eyes full of gratitude.
"Thank you, Mr. Blackwood, for trusting me, again" she said. "I will work hard and not let you down."
Zane just gave her a big, proud, and friendly smile. "You don't need to thank me, Donna. You earned this. You've done an amazing job, and you deserve it."
Zane was telling the truth. Donna had completely turned the UPN network around. She had hired over 200 new, smart people and had made the channel a top-ten station. She was a superstar.
"Ahem!" Zane cleared his throat, and the room went quiet again. "I have two more appointments."
He looked at Alexander. "Alexander, I'm promoting you. You will now be the Director of the Chairman's Office, which means you'll be my new chief assistant."
Alexander, who was usually so calm, shot up from his seat, his face full of joy. "Thank you, boss! Thank you!"
All the other bosses in the room looked at him with envy. Being the boss's chief assistant was a huge deal!
"Keep up the great work, Alexander," Zane said, encouraging him. "I know you're going to be a big help as our company keeps growing."
Zane knew he couldn't run this whole giant company by himself. He needed a smart, organized person like Alexander right by his side.
...
"Next," Zane said, "we need new presidents for UPN and WB."
He explained that the old bosses from the WB network had all quit and gone back to their old jobs. This meant he had to promote people from his own team.
"Rondo William Deba," Zane said, "you will be the new president of the WB Television Network. I'll give you one year. Can you get this network running perfectly?"
Rondo, a middle-aged Black man, sat up straight. He was a very talented man who had worked in TV for years. But because of his skin color, he had been stuck in a go-nowhere job for a long time. When Donna and Zane took over, they saw his talent and gave him a real chance. He had done an amazing job running the news channel.
"Boss," Rondo said, "I will do my absolute best!"
Zane just smiled, his voice full of warmth and confidence. "Rondo, I know you'll do your best. But I want you to know that I believe in you. You're great at your job, but you're too humble! You need to have more confidence. I know you can do this."
Rondo looked at his boss, his eyes full of gratitude. He felt like he could do anything.
Zane just nodded. He was a practical guy. He didn't care about skin color. He just wanted the most talented people on his team, and Rondo was one of the best.
"And for UPN," Zane said, "the new president will be Corbett Siprince!"
This made a few people whisper. Corbett was the man who used to be Donna's biggest rival at the old UPN. The two of them were full of disagreements.
"Corbett," Zane said with a smile, "you'll need to work closely with Ms. Donna to make UPN even better."
"We will not let you down," Corbett said, shooting a quick, challenging look at Donna. Donna just looked back at him, her face calm and cool.
Zane saw it all!
And he just smiled to himself. He knew a little bit of competition was healthy. It kept everyone on their toes and made them work harder. As the boss, his job was to make sure everyone was working hard for the company. He trusted his team, but he also knew a good boss has to keep an eye on things.
...
For the next few hours, they talked about the future.
UPN had the hit cartoons ("SpongeBob" and "Peppa Pig").
WB had the hit variety shows ("Got Talent," "Millionaire," and "WWE").
In those two areas, they were kings.
But... there was a big problem. Outside of those shows, their channels were weak. And the biggest problem of all? They had no hit TV dramas.
"The big networks like ABC and NBC are starting to notice us," Zane said, his voice serious. "They're going to try and crush us. If we want to really compete, we must have our own hit dramas."
"I'll start looking for good TV scripts right away," Donna said.
"Yes, I will do my best, too!" the new presidents promised.
"No need," Zane said, shaking his head with a small, confident smile.
Everyone looked at him, confused.
"Leave the TV scripts to me," he said. "I'll handle them myself."
It took everyone a few seconds to remember... their boss wasn't just a billionaire boss. He was also a genius screenwriter.
Zane Blackwood—the man with the "cheat codes"—was back online.
