Chapter 297 - No Matter What Your Identity Is, You're My Proxy

Though her movements were gentle, Wise still wasn't used to the sensation. He could only remain still as Miyabi touched his fox ears.

However, at one point, Miyabi suddenly stuck out her tongue and licked one of them, leaving the fur damp and sticky.

Startled, Wise immediately disabled his transformation ability, causing the fox ears to disappear. Even so, the hair where they had been remained stained with saliva.

When Miyabi realized the ears were gone, disappointment instantly appeared on her face. It seemed she truly liked Wise with fox ears.

Only after she promised not to use her mouth again did Wise make the fox ears reappear.

Everything that needed to be done was finished now. Although Miyabi still wanted to continue their intimate moment, time no longer allowed it.

"For the rest of the day, I plan to visit the Chasm Memorial again. Speaking of which... when we met there before, were you mourning someone?"

Miyabi looked at Wise with genuine curiosity in her eyes. Seeing this, Wise initially wanted to brush the question aside, but something in her gaze compelled him to tell the truth.

"We went there to pay respects to our teacher."

"Teacher? Hmm, I understand."

Miyabi nodded calmly, her expression softening slightly. She could tell Wise wasn't lying, and she didn't press him any further. If Wise wanted to say more, he would tell her himself.

"Zhu Yuan and I are the same. I'm very happy that the trust I give can be returned with the same trust."

After hearing Miyabi's words, Wise fell silent for a moment. He felt that he couldn't betray the trust she had placed in him.

"Um... Miyabi, I have something very important to tell you. Eleven years ago... Belle and I lived in Minerva Quarter, at the end of Main Road No. 7, inside Helios Academy."

He paused, trying to find the right words before continuing.

"The person who raised and educated us... was named Carole Arna. We are... the children of the sinner, the one blamed for the fall of the Old Capital."

"...!"

Miyabi's ears instantly perked up in surprise. Wise also appeared somewhat uneasy. After all, this was the first time he had revealed something like this to anyone else.

Still, Miyabi didn't react immediately. She simply continued looking at him calmly, waiting for him to continue.

"Our teacher is innocent. There's another hidden truth behind the fall of the Old Capital."

"...What hidden truth?"

Now even Miyabi was curious. She already knew Wise wasn't a bad person, so she quietly listened as he recounted the events of that year.

"On the night the disaster occurred, Helios Academy suffered an unknown attack. There were unseen armed groups, monsters, and that giant white hand. It looked almost identical to the one Bringer summoned!"

"Belle and I have devoted ourselves to uncovering the truth. With your help, I believe we can find the real culprit."

After listening to Wise's words, Miyabi's gaze remained calm. Then she reached toward a nearby cabinet and picked up the hairpin she had removed earlier.

It was a personal ornament she had crafted herself, modeled after her mother's relic.

Taking Wise's hand, she gently placed the hairpin into his palm.

"Take this. It's proof that you are someone under the protection of the Hoshimi Family."

The hair ornament was originally a treasured possession she never parted with. According to the Hoshimi Family's customs, such intimate belongings could only be entrusted to someone exceptionally special.

Miyabi had originally planned to give it to Wise after they returned together to meet her father, but giving it to him now made little difference.

"No matter what your identity is, you're my Proxy."

Her words sounded domineering, but the concern hidden within them was even stronger.

"So, Miyabi... are you willing to trust me now?"

"Yes. I've always trusted you. But I'm not a fool either. The truth behind the fall of the Old Capital may be far more complicated than either of us understands. There's still much that needs to be investigated before we can determine whether there truly is another hidden truth. But please don't forget our relationship, nor the path we're meant to walk together."

As Miyabi spoke, she leaned her face against Wise's chest, quietly listening to the steady beat of his heart.

At that moment, Wise finally relaxed. He had originally thought Miyabi would be upset after hearing everything, but now it seemed he had worried for nothing.

Just as Miyabi had once said:

'Eliminate evil thoroughly. But what is evil... I will decide.'

Afterward, Wise brought Belle along to accompany Miyabi to the Chasm Memorial.

Unexpectedly, yet somehow naturally, while paying respects to her mother, Miyabi openly expressed her feelings for Wise, leaving Belle—quietly listening from the side—feeling extremely awkward.

And just like that, the day quietly came to an end.

A few days later, on a certain night inside the video store...

Everything was quiet, as though none of the previous incidents had ever happened.

A soft cry from a young girl suddenly rang out. It was Fairy's scheduled sleep reminder.

Ever since completing her system repairs, she had become even more clingy.

On a side note, Wise also received a message from Miyabi around that time, informing him that the Public Security Inspectorate's investigation into him and Belle had officially stopped.

Now it was finally time to rest properly. Section 6 and Zhu Yuan would handle the remaining aftermath, and they had already been working tirelessly these past few days.

To reward them and express his gratitude, Wise had delivered food to them several times recently.

At Section 6, aside from the slightly awkward atmosphere between Yanagi and Miyabi, as well as Harumasa's unusually admiring gaze, nothing particularly noteworthy happened.

Soukaku remained the same as always. She greeted him enthusiastically before immediately focusing on eating.

If anything, Harumasa seemed determined to build a good relationship with Wise, likely so it would be easier to ask Yanagi for leave through him in the future.

Then there was Zhu Yuan. Although Wise had informed her beforehand, when the food actually arrived, she still became visibly shy.

After all, the colleagues around her kept discussing the relationship between the two of them.

While Zhu Yuan felt embarrassed, part of her was secretly happy about it too. However, whenever she recalled what happened that night, her emotions became a little complicated again.

As for Qingyi beside her, Zhu Yuan still couldn't understand why an Intelligent Construct could eat, nor how she was even supposed to digest food.

Usually, the only thing she ever saw Qingyi drink was tea.

Putting that aside, the two of them ate quite happily, looking thoroughly satisfied. It was just a pity that Jane wasn't there.

Time quietly passed, and night had fully descended over New Eridu.

Now that everything had finally settled down, Wise could finally enjoy a proper night's sleep.

However...

[|Master, I can't sleep.|]

The moment she spoke, Fairy moved closer and snuggled against Wise with a pitiful expression.

It really showed just how terrifying an AI's ability to learn could be. She had mastered the human art of pretending to look pitiful incredibly quickly.

"Do AIs need sleep too?" Wise asked, raising an eyebrow.
