Harry knew that he was alone here, standing solitary without any backing.
If he didn't perform well, what would happen if the School Board stopped funding him?
All he could do was study hard.
After Cassandra Malfoy, he quickly lit up his magic wand too.
"Well done, Mr. Potter." Professor Ronan praised, "Five points to Gryffindor!"
The Gryffindor students cheered loudly, especially Gareth.
Then, the siblings Sebastian Saru and Annie Saru also completed the Lighting Spell.
After class, Professor Ronan asked Harry to stay behind.
"I can see it, Mr. Potter." Professor Ronan said with a smile, "You have quite a talent for magic spells—are you a Muggle species? I mean, are both your parents Muggles?"
"I don't know, Professor." Harry replied honestly, "I don't know what my parents did, but from what my aunt said, they probably couldn't do magic."
Yeah, how could someone who knew magic die in a car accident?
"Sorry." Professor Ronan smiled gently and said to Harry, "If you would like, you can come to the spell classroom before dinner every Tuesday, and I will teach you some practical magic spells."
Tuesday, which was the next day.
"Alright, Professor." Harry nodded and answered honestly.
After the spell class, they had Herbology.
The Herbology professor was a young, beautiful witch with two braids draped over her chest, youthful and lively.
She loved to laugh, and Harry loved to see her smile, enjoyed Herbology, and didn't even want to drift off during class.
In fact, almost all the male students were like that; they were extremely attentive during Herbology.
The Transformation Class was taught by Professor Weasley. Although she was the deputy headmistress and head of Gryffindor, she wasn't strict—at least Harry thought she was much kinder than Mrs. Hawkins, who used to teach him math in the Muggle World.
However, during the first class, Professor Weasley appeared extremely serious.
"Transformation Magic is the most complex and dangerous magic in your Hogwarts curriculum." she said, "I hope you recognize these magic spells correctly. If you dare to use a Transformation Spell on your classmates, I will have Mr. Gladwin Moen punish you."
After saying that, she waved her magic wand and transformed the Transformation Class textbook in front of Harry into a toad. The toad hopped and climbed onto Harry's face, then stuck out its tongue at the classmates behind him.
Harry wasn't scared at all. First, he was familiar with Professor Weasley, and second, there was nothing scary about a toad. With a large toad on his head, he smiled, showing his white teeth.
The first lesson of the Transformation Class was theoretical.
According to Professor Weasley, learning the theory first in the Transformation Class is never too much.
But to consider the students' emotions, she attempted to transform a matchstick into a needle in the latter half of the class.
She handed out a matchstick to each student, and soon Cassandra Malfoy turned her matchstick into a needle with exquisite patterns.
"An outstanding transformation spell, Miss Malfoy." Professor Weasley sincerely praised, "Ten points to Slytherin!"
However, before the class ended, only Harry managed to cause a slight change in his matchstick—the upper part remained a match head, while the lower part became a sharp needle point.
Professor Weasley didn't award him points, but instead smiled at him encouragingly and praised him.
Harry felt it wasn't good enough and thought perhaps Professor Weasley was just comforting him, so in his free time, he asked Gareth for a matchstick and continued to practice the transformation spell with his magic wand.
"I can tell, you're really nervous." Gareth shrugged, not stopping his friend from practicing after class.
The Defense Against the Dark Arts Class the next morning was the most anticipated course among the students.
The teacher for the Defense Against the Dark Arts Class was a witch who appeared elderly, but in fact, she wasn't very old; it was Professor Hecate, who was a former Silent Person of the Department of Mysteries. Due to multiple missions, she aged into an old lady.
Additionally, she was the head of Ravenclaw, and the Ravenclaw students really liked her.
In the first class, Professor Hecate gave a crucial lesson—how to deal with magic spells.
"The best strategy is always to dodge." Professor Hecate said, "At your current level, you need to learn how to dodge an evil curse using body techniques, and when you're older, you can learn how to use Apparition to avoid spells—remember, dodging is always the best countermeasure."
Professor Hecate also shared some interesting anecdotes that she personally experienced during her years with the Department of Mysteries.
In the end, before the class ended, Professor Hecate taught them an inoffensive minor curse—the Tarantella Dance.
The spell was not difficult at all, and even the seemingly wisest student among them—well, someone with a slightly vacant look and not-so-sharp mind, Nerida Roberts, could successfully perform this spell.
After class, the first-year students, having learned this spell, frequently used a Tarantella Dance.
