Chapter 149 - Chapter 148 : Main World (DC)

So Daniel pulled Sylvia gently and made her sit on the sofa, placing himself between her and the chaos to keep things from escalating again.

"Alright… family introductions are in order," he said, trying to keep things under control.

At that moment, footsteps approached.

Evelyn and Elizabeth entered the hall, clearly drawn by Daniel's voice, both of them smiling at first.

Then they saw Sylvia.

The smiles froze.

Their expressions didn't change immediately, but the shift in atmosphere was instant. They walked forward slowly, their eyes locked onto Daniel, then briefly onto Sylvia, then back to Daniel again.

Daniel noticed.

"Oh… Evy, Elizabeth—" he started, but didn't get to finish.

They stopped right in front of him.

Too close.

Their gazes were sharp, silent, and very clear in meaning.

Why is there another woman here?

Daniel felt it immediately.

"…You see—" Daniel began, raising his hands slightly as if that would help.

"There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this," he added, trying to sound convincing.

Evelyn and Elizabeth didn't move.

"Yeah," Evelyn said, her tone calm but sharp. "We're listening."

Daniel exhaled and started explaining, keeping his words straight and to the point. He told them about the world he had gone to, how the system there worked, how he ended up meeting Sylvia, and how things escalated from there.

He avoided anything unnecessary, skipping over the more chaotic or questionable parts, focusing only on what mattered.

Sylvia sat quietly on the sofa, listening as well, her eyes moving between them.

The dynamic didn't make immediate sense to her.

Daniel finished speaking.

For a moment, there was silence.

Evelyn and Elizabeth exchanged a brief glance, then looked back at Sylvia, measuring her presence more carefully now that they had context.

Sylvia, on the other hand, was still trying to process something entirely different.

This man—

Had three women around him.

She didn't say it out loud, but the thought was obvious in her expression, especially considering everything she had seen him do so far.

Well… considering what he is… maybe that's not surprising, she thought, though it still felt strange to her.

The next day, everyone gathered again, the atmosphere calmer but carrying a quiet sense that something big was about to change.

"So you're leaving again?" Evelyn asked.

Daniel shook his head slightly.

"No," he said. "This time it's temporary. Soon, all of us will be leaving this world."

That answer immediately drew reactions.

Ronnie frowned, clearly uncomfortable with what he was hearing, his instincts already telling him this wasn't going to end peacefully for him.

"Ummm… boss," he said hesitantly, "can I not come to this new world? I actually like this one."

Daniel didn't even consider it.

"No," he replied, his tone firm and final. "You don't have a choice. I need all of you there. There's work waiting."

Ronnie let out a quiet sigh, already regretting asking.

"The world we're going to should be around the twenty-first century," he said. "It has a lot of things you've never seen before—something called the internet, games, and food far better than what you're used to. There's a lot you'll probably enjoy."

His system had already decided that the DC modern world would be the fixed point.

There were many fragments there he needed to recover, so it was better to live there for now than remain in the 1930s. As for the dangers of that world, he would simply be careful. And if he became strong enough… he could live quite comfortably.

Evelyn tilted her head slightly, focusing on a different part of what he said.

"What is 'internet'?" she asked.

Daniel paused, thinking of a way to explain it simply without overcomplicating things.

"It's a kind of communication network," he said. "People use it to talk to each other across long distances, share information, watch things, learn things, and basically connect everything together."

He thought for a second, then added,

"It's like a world where everyone is constantly connected, where information moves instantly, and where you can find almost anything… if you know where to look."

"Wow… so this is Gotham," Daniel said, standing at the edge of a tall building as he looked down at the city stretching beneath him.

Night had already taken over, the skyline lit by scattered lights that failed to hide the darkness woven into the streets below. From above, it looked alive—moving, breathing—but there was something heavy about it, something that didn't belong in an ordinary city.

Daniel could feel it—not with his eyes, but with something deeper: death and despair.

It lingered everywhere, layered into the air itself, clinging to the alleys, the rooftops, the people moving far below. It wasn't subtle, and it wasn't rare.

This city had too much of it.

His gaze moved slowly across the skyline, taking it all in without speaking for a moment.

"…Yeah," he murmured under his breath, his expression unreadable. "This place has plenty of it."
