Chapter 2: Volkaris vanguard: The journey to Felithria
Act 1
[Scene 1]
[The dining room of the Ignis family's ancestral home in the Flamebrise Clan glows warmly with firelight. The aroma of roasted meat fills the air as the family gathers around a large, wooden table.]
Theron: So, Kael, what exactly happened in Velanor? I heard you crossed paths with a necromancer.
Kael: [leaning back, arms crossed] Yeah. I was studying the inscriptions on the Walls of History when a knight approached me, asking for help. The necromancer turned out to be an Earth Elementor. I sent him to Terrexion Valdros to handle it. After that... well, I'm not sure what happened.
Valtara: [sipping her tea thoughtfully] Rumor has it that Valdros beat him to death when he refused to reveal the name of his master.
Kael: His name was Zyros, but beyond that, he didn't give much away.
Theron: [nodding solemnly] Interesting... Well, Kael, I need you to deliver some cooked fish to Felithria. Their people love fish, and it's part of our trade deal-fish in exchange for mining tools and weapons. Lyrien Flynn, your friend Raven, will accompany you.
Kael: [standing up with a small smile] Alright, Father. I'll join him.
[Scene 2]
[Outside the Ignis household, Kael meets Lyrien Flynn. The sun casts long shadows over the rolling hills of the Flamebrise Clan.]
Kael: Lyrien Flynn.
Lyrien: Kael Ignis, son of Theron Ignis-the Grandmaster of Flames and wielder of the legendary blue flames. It's an honor to meet you.
Kael: [chuckling] No need for the formalities.
Lyrien: [grinning] My apologies.
Kael: So, are we ready for Felithria?
Lyrien: Ready when you are. Let's go.
[Scene 3]
[The dense shadows of a dark forest close in around them as they journey toward Felithria. A faint mist clings to the ground, and the sounds of distant creatures echo through the trees.]
Kael: [glancing around uneasily] I don't like this place.
Lyrien: Don't worry. You'll get used to it. It's quiet now, but that's a good thing. Let's keep moving-we've got fish to deliver and gold to trade.
[Suddenly, a spear whistles through the air, embedding itself in a nearby tree. Both men halt abruptly, Kael drawing his sword.]
Kael: [scanning the forest] Who's there? Show yourself!
[Silence. Only the faint rustle of leaves answers him.]
Kael: [lowering his sword slightly] Must've been a failed trap set for the undead.
Lyrien: Likely. Let's stay alert, just in case.
[As they continue, they spot a small figure-a Kitna child, huddled near a tree, her fur ruffled and her wide eyes filled with fear.]
Kael: Hey, are you alright? What's your name?
Kitna Child: [snarling and backing away] Stay away from me!
Lyrien: [raising his hands defensively] Wait! We're here to help! Are you lost?
Kitna Child: I said stay away!
[The child lunges toward Lyrien, but Kael moves swiftly, catching her mid-charge.]
Kael: Easy now! We're not a threat. [to Lyrien] Do you have any food? She looks hungry.
Lyrien: [rummaging through his bag] I've got plenty of fish.
[They offer the food to the child, who hesitates before devouring it hungrily. Once she finishes, Kael kneels beside her.]
Kael: Feeling better? What's your name?
Kitna Child: [still wary but calmer] Akirra. I'm from the Felithria Jungle. I wandered too far from home... I just wanted to explore.
Kael: Well, Akirra, I'm Kael Ignis, and this is Lyrien Flynn. We'll get you home safely.
Akirra: [eyes brightening] Really? Thank you! I've always wanted to meet elementors.
Lyrien: [grinning] Well, now you've met two of us.
Kael: Let's keep moving. Akirra, stick close, and watch out for traps.
Akirra: Don't worry-I can smell them from a mile away.
Kael: Good. Let's go.
Act 2
[Scene 1]
[The vibrant jungle of Felithria is alive with the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves. Shafts of sunlight pierce through the dense canopy, and the air smells of damp earth and blooming flowers. Kael, Lyrien, and Akirra approach a small clearing where two Kitna, Akirra's parents, Lunaria and Thalior, stand anxiously.]
Akirra: [running ahead, her voice trembling with joy] Mom! Dad!
Lunaria: [kneeling and embracing Akirra tightly] Oh, Akirra! We missed you so much!
Thalior: [placing a gentle hand on Akirra's head] We thought we had lost you, my little one.
Akirra: [stepping back, smiling brightly] Mom, Dad, I want you to meet my new friends!
[Kael and Lyrien step forward, Kael offering a respectful nod, and Lyrien giving a small wave.]
Kael: I'm Kael Ignis, and this is my companion, Lyrien Flynn.
Lyrien: [grinning warmly] Hello!
Thalior: [gripping Kael's shoulder firmly] Thank you both for bringing our daughter back safely. We are in your debt.
Lunaria: [smiling warmly] You must let me prepare something for you, at least some snacks to take on your journey.
Kael: [shaking his head politely] Thank you, but we're on a mission. We have a payment to deliver to your chief. Could you tell us where to find them?
Lunaria: [gesturing to the towering tree at the heart of the jungle] You see that great tree in the distance? That's where our chief resides.
Lyrien: [nodding with a smile] Thank you. [glancing at Akirra] Goodbye, Akirra!
Akirra: [tearing up slightly but smiling] Goodbye! I'll miss you both!
Kael: [with a warm smile] We'll miss you too. Stay safe, Akirra.
[The two elementors wave as they continue down the winding path toward the massive tree, the sounds of the jungle growing louder around them.]
[Scene 2]
[Kael and Lyrien reach the base of the massive tree, its roots sprawling like natural staircases. The chief's home, an impressive structure built into the tree's trunk, radiates a quiet grandeur. The scent of incense wafts through the air. They step inside, where Chief Phillith, an elderly Kitna with silver-streaked fur and piercing eyes, waits seated on a carved wooden throne.]
Lyrien: [presenting the package of fish with both hands] Chief Phillith, this is the payment as promised. We hope it meets your expectations.
Chief Phillith: [accepting the package and placing it aside] Thank you. Your people have always upheld their end of the agreement. [His gaze sharpens as he looks at Kael.] But tell me, who are you? Your presence carries a unique power.
Kael: [bowing slightly] My name is Kael Ignis, son of Grandmaster Theron Ignis, wielder of the legendary blue flames.
Chief Phillith: [nodding thoughtfully] I see. You bear your father's strength, but your path is your own. It was wise of Theron to send you.
Kael: [smiling faintly] Thank you, Chief Phillith. And may I ask, how should we address you?
Chief Phillith: [with a toothy grin] My friends call me Phill.
Kael: [chuckling softly] Alright, Phill. Well, if there's nothing else, we'll take our leave.
Chief Phillith: [standing, his voice taking on a solemn tone] Go safely, both of you. And, Kael... [pausing for a moment] trust your instincts. They will guide you when logic fails.
Kael: [nodding respectfully] I will.
[Lyrien and Kael exit the chief's home, the jungle's vibrant energy enveloping them once again as they begin their journey back.]
Act 3
[Scene 1]
[Kael and Lyrien are walking through the lively streets of Felithria. The marketplace bustles with activity, vendors shouting, Kitnas bargaining, and children laughing. Their path leads them toward a crowd gathered around an open arena, where a tournament is taking place.]
Kael: [eyes lighting up] Wait a second... is that a tournament?
Lyrien: [glancing toward the arena] Looks like it. And it's the final match.
Kael: [grinning eagerly] I can't miss this. Let's go!
[Kael pulls Lyrien along as they weave through the crowd, finding a spot near the edge of the ring.]
[Scene 2]
[In the center of the ring, two Kitnas face off. One is Tharvos Ironclaw, a towering male with rippling muscles and a confident smirk. The other is Zyra Swiftfang, a petite but agile female with sharp eyes that gleam with determination. The tension in the air is palpable.]
Kael: [leaning forward, fascinated by Zyra] She's going to win.
Lyrien: [smirking] Are you serious? Look at Tharvos-he's a beast. My bet's on him.
Kael: [grinning] Alright, let's see who's right.
[Scene 3]
[The match begins, and the crowd roars. Tharvos charges with brute strength, but Zyra dodges effortlessly, her movements a blur. The fight intensifies with both combatants landing blows, but Zyra's agility gives her the upper hand. Finally, she delivers a lightning-fast spinning kick, sending Tharvos sprawling out of the ring.]
[Scene 4]
Announcer: [voice booming] ZYRA SWIFTFANG IS THE CHAMPION!
[The crowd erupts in cheers, chanting Zyra's name. As she waves to the audience, Kael, unable to contain his excitement, jumps into the ring.]
Kael: [grinning] Hey, Zyra!
Zyra: [narrowing her eyes] What are you doing here, human? This tournament is for Kitnas only.
Announcer: [shouting, stunned] A HUMAN HAS ENTERED THE RING! WHAT IS THIS?!
Lyrien: [from the crowd, laughing nervously] That can't be Kael... [notices Kael's empty seat] What?! Kael! Get down from there!
[Kael ignores Lyrien, his attention fixed on Zyra.]
Kael: [smiling confidently] Don't worry. I'll make it a fair fight.
Zyra: [raising an eyebrow, intrigued] A fair fight, huh? Alright, human. Let's see what you've got.
Kael: [smirking] I'm ready when you are.
Zyra: [grinning] Challenge accepted.
Announcer: THIS IS UNPRECEDENTED! A HUMAN CHALLENGES ZYRA! WHO WILL EMERGE VICTORIOUS?!
[Scene 5]
[The fight begins, and the crowd watches in awe. Zyra's speed is unmatched, but Kael's reflexes and strength allow him to keep up. The two exchange blow after blow, their movements a blur of intensity.]
Zyra: [breathing heavily, glancing at Kael's glowing orange eyes] You're stronger than I thought. Are you... an Elementor?
Kael: [smirking] What makes you ask?
Zyra: Your eyes. They burn like fire. Why aren't you using your powers?
Kael: [grinning] Like I said, fair fight.
[The fight continues until Zyra capitalizes on an opening, delivering a swift kick that sends Kael flying out of the ring.]
[Scene 6]
[Kael picks himself up, laughing.]
Kael: [grinning] That was intense. You've earned that victory.
Zyra: [extending a hand] Nice match. The name's Zyra Swiftfang. And you?
Kael: [shaking her hand] Kael Ignis, son of Grandmaster Theron Ignis.
Zyra: [smirking] Impressive lineage. Not a bad fight, Kael Ignis. Not bad at all.
[Their conversation is interrupted by Tharvos, who strides into the ring, glaring at Zyra.]
Tharvos: [growling] Zyra! I demand a rematch!
Zyra: [rolling her eyes] Tharvos, you lost. Get over it.
[Tharvos pulls out a sinister-looking wither skull, and a dark aura envelops him. His muscles bulge unnaturally, and his eyes glow red. He laughs, revealing his true nature as a necromancer.]
Kael: [stepping back, alarmed] Don't tell me... that's a wither skull!
Lyrien: [pushing through the crowd] Kael, we need to leave!
Kael: [firmly] No. Necromancers like him can't be left unchecked. This requires teamwork.
Zyra: [stepping beside him] I'm with you.
Lyrien: [unsheathing her blades] I've fought plenty of undead before. Let's end this together.
Kael: [nodding] Alright, team. Let's take him down!
[Scene 7]
[The battle is chaotic and fierce. Tharvos summons waves of undead, but Kael, Zyra, and Lyrien fight with precision and teamwork. The Kitna authorities join the fray, clashing with the undead hordes. Finally, Kael delivers a fiery strike to Tharvos, and Zyra and Lyrien land a coordinated blow, killing the necromancer.]
[As the smoke clears, the crowd erupts in cheers. Zyra helps Kael to his feet.]
Zyra: [grinning] Not bad, Ignis. Not bad at all.
Kael: [laughing] Same to you, Swiftfang. Same to you.
[The three share a moment of camaraderie as the authorities begin cleaning up the battlefield, the crowd still chanting their names.]
Act 4:
[Scene 1]
[Setting: Inside Chief Phillith's chamber, dimly lit by lanterns. The air is filled with the quiet hum of activity outside as the town of Felithria prepares for the evening.]
Phillith: [Handing over a small leather pouch] Here's 200 gold for the three of you.
Lyrien: [Grinning and taking the pouch] Thanks, Chief. We'll make good use of it.
Phillith: You've earned it. But don't linger; you've got a long road ahead.
Kael: Understood. Thanks for everything.
Phillith: [Nods, a rare smile breaking his stern expression] Safe travels. The jungle doesn't forgive recklessness.
Zyra: We'll be careful. Goodbye, Chief.
[The three exchange a final look with Phillith before heading out, their footsteps echoing faintly as they leave the chamber.]
[Scene 2]
[Setting: Just beyond the borders of Felithria, under the sprawling canopy of trees that give way to open skies. The group pauses to catch their breath, the weight of their departure settling in.]
Zyra: [Looking at Kael And Lyrien] I'm really going to miss you two.
Kael: [Smirking] Oh, come on, Zyra. This isn't goodbye forever. We're a team now.
Lyrien: Speaking of which, we never decided on a name for our team.
Zyra: [Brightening up] That's true! Kael, you're the strategist. Any ideas?
Kael: [Pausing dramatically] Alright, how about-
Zyra: [Interrupting] Felithrian Guardians!
Lyrien: [Grinning] Not bad. But how about... the Blazing Trio?
Zyra: Ooh! Or Jungle Blaze Squad!
Lyrien: [Laughing] Elemental Unity has a nice ring to it too.
Kael: [Sighing theatrically] Guys, guys! Let me finish. How about... Volkaris Vanguard?
[An immediate silence follows, each of them considering the name.]
Zyra: ...That's perfect.
Lyrien: [Nods approvingly] It feels right.
Zyra: [Clapping her hands] Then it's settled! We're officially the Volkaris Vanguard!
Lyrien: [Raising a fist in the air] Hooooooh!
Zyra: [Joining in laughter]
Kael: [Chuckling] Alright, Vanguard, who's hungry?
Lyrien: [Groaning dramatically] I'm starving after all that fighting!
Zyra: Me too!
Kael: Let's head to my clan, the Flambrise. We'll find food and shelter there.
Zyra: [Excitedly] Sounds like a plan!
Lyrien: [Smiling as they begin walking again] Lead the way, Kael.
[The group sets off, their bond now stronger, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead as the Volkaris Vanguard.]
