In Pandora's low orbit, a massive, slightly weathered Valkyrie-class interstellar transport ship—having completed its long, grueling cosmic voyage—slowly adjusted its attitude. It prepared to deploy its personnel and cargo via landing shuttles down to Hell's Gate.
This ship, the ISV Venture Star, brought another rotation of personnel and a massive replenishment of supplies from Earth to the Pandora outpost.
Inside the Hell's Gate base, in Dr. Grace Augustine's lab, the atmosphere had turned remarkably subtle. Grace had just received the initial arrival list of personnel from the base's internal communication channel. Her brow was deeply furrowed, and her finger lingered on one particular name for a long time: Jake Sully.
"Another Sully..." she muttered under her breath, her tone a complex mix of grief and weariness.
Just then, the lab's encrypted communication channel chimed with a specific prompt—it was the contact signal from Rei Ayanami's team. Grace hesitated for a moment but answered anyway.
"Dr. Grace," Rei's flat voice came through. "We monitored the arrival of a new interstellar ship. Are there any changes in information we should be concerned about?"
Grace looked at the list, sighed, and decided to share this news with these "special" collaborators.
"There is indeed a change. Among the new rotation personnel, there is someone named Jake Sully. He is... Tom Sully's identical twin brother."
"Tom Sully?" Asuka's voice chimed in, filled with confusion. "That dead driver?"
"Yes," Grace confirmed. "According to the records, Jake has the exact same genetic compatibility as his brother. He will replace Tom and become the new backup driver for the Avatar program. The corporate higher-ups approved this application, probably because the cost of growing an Avatar body is too high, and they didn't want to waste a ready 'asset'." Her voice carried a heavy hint of sarcasm toward corporate decision-making.
Silence fell on the other end of the communication for a moment. They all knew the significance of the Avatar program; a brand-new driver who could directly integrate into Na'vi society was undoubtedly a massive variable.
After ending the call with Grace, Rei's team immediately reported this situation to Osiris in the Pathfinder via their encrypted channel.
"Commander, the situation has changed," Rei stated concisely. "Among the newly arrived RDA personnel is a former Marine named Jake Sully. He will replace his deceased brother to become the new driver for the Avatar program. Dr. Grace has confirmed this information."
Asuka added from the side, a hint of hard-to-detect worry in her tone: "Commander, this guy is a wild card. If he successfully links with the Na'vi, will he mess up our previous plans? Sutai's line is just starting to show promise."
Shinji also said softly, "If... if he can also communicate with the Na'vi, then our advantage—"
Osiris sat in the main control room of the Pathfinder mobile base, listening to the report. His face showed no trace of surprise. Jake Sully's arrival was an inevitable event in the "possibilities" he had glimpsed through the memories of his primary body.
However, knowing it was one thing; when this name was explicitly mentioned, a deep-seated, extreme revulsion toward traitors—born from the instincts of an Astartes—ignited in his chest like a cold, dark flame.
A paralyzed former soldier who, in order to regain the ability to walk and experience an alien life, ultimately betrayed his human identity and interests, throwing himself completely into the embrace of xenos, and even going so far as to mobilize the ecological forces of the entire planet to slaughter his own kind...
In the education and faith Osiris had received, such an act transcended simple betrayal; it was a desecration of the human species itself. By the logic of the Warhammer universe, the only end for such a traitor was immediate, absolute purification.
His fingers tightened slightly on the edge of the console, causing the alloy surface to emit a faint groan. The urge to directly eliminate this potential traitor once and for all was highly tempting.
But he took a deep breath, forcing down this impulse. Emotion was the enemy of decision-making. He closed his eyes, his consciousness linking instantly with his primary body far away on Necromunda, sharing this information and running a high-speed mental simulation.
A moment later, he opened his eyes, their depths having returned to his habitual calm and calculation. The wills of the main body and the avatar were aligned: Jake Sully, this disgusting variable, could also be a sharp, double-edged sword pointed straight at the heart of the Na'vi.
"No need to be tense; everything remains within expectations," Osiris's voice was transmitted back through the channel, as steady as ever. "Jake Sully's arrival will not pose a direct threat to your actions in the short term. On the contrary, his appearance might create new opportunities for us."
He paused before continuing his instructions: "Rei, your team will continue to maintain contact with Dr. Grace and Sutai. Pay close attention to Jake Sully's progress after he integrates into the Avatar program. Dr. Grace seems to have doubts about him as well, which is an entry point we can share."
"Asuka, Shinji, you can keep an eye on this person, but maintain your distance and do not make active contact. Observe him and record his behavioral patterns, especially his changing attitudes toward the Na'vi and the RDA."
"Maine." Osiris switched channels. "The arrival of new personnel means the balance of power within the RDA may shift subtly. Strengthen your communication with Colonel Quaritch. Understand his thoughts on the newcomers, especially this 'special' driver. You can appropriately hint that we maintain an ongoing interest in the 'scientific research value' of the Avatar program."
The directives were clear and precise.
Osiris's strategy was to hold back and watch the situation unfold. He would allow the pawn Jake Sully to move along his original "destiny," earning the trust of the Na'vi.
This process would inevitably cause waves within the Na'vi clan; whether they accepted or rejected him, it would further intensify the existing internal conflicts, providing better cover and entry points for Rei's team's infiltration.
He even envisioned a more distant future. When Jake Sully eventually "grew" into the leader of the Na'vi, rallying their resistance, that would be the optimal moment to wipe out these uncooperative, stubborn elements all at once.
When that time came, there would be many methods. Intense armed conflict was a lesser option; a precise "ecological adjustment" targeted at specific genetic sequences—such as a gene virus—might be a more efficient and thorough solution.
Those willing to accept "assistance" (a vaccine) could become collaborators, while those who refused would be "recycled" by Pandora's nature.
Jake Sully's arrival had not disrupted Osiris's plans; instead, it offered an opportunity to accelerate the process and solve [1]the "Na'vi problem" once and for all.
For now, he only needed to wait patiently for this restless seed to take root and sprout in the soil of Pandora, until it grew into the exact shape he required.
