Chapter 798 - A New Lead

"The Sela II system," Mira pointed to an inconspicuous dot on the star map, "is located on the edge of the Dominion-controlled sector, near the direction of the Tyrador system.

"There are no colony worlds there; official records only list a few resource-barren asteroid mining sites and an abandoned gas giant observation station.

"However—"

She pulled up another old set of scan logs. "About ten years ago, the Dominion secretly constructed a research outpost there. The project was later aborted, and the facilities were supposedly mothballed.

"This manifest my people intercepted shows that a massive quantity of supplies is currently being shipped to those exact coordinates. Furthermore, the receiving code name is 'Hyena's Den'—hardly a name used for a standard prison."

Valerie rapidly retrieved additional data concerning the Sela II system and the abandoned outpost.

The system's environment was complex, featuring an unstable asteroid belt, with solar activity occasionally interfering with communications and sensors. If that outpost had been reactivated and retrofitted, its geography indeed possessed the necessary conditions to serve as a secret prison.

"That's only one piece of the puzzle," Mira continued. "Additionally, I bought a piece of news from an information broker.

"He claimed that roughly a week after Raynor was captured, a small Ghost squad task force intercepted and sank an independent reconnaissance vessel that strayed into the area near a smugglers' jump point on the outer perimeter of the Sela II system.

"It was a clean operation, but an informant happened to be setting up an interception array on a nearby asteroid at the time and caught a brief snippet of battle signals along with fleet identification remnants. The ID pointed straight to a special duty fleet directly under the Dominion Security Bureau."

Valerie cross-analyzed this information with the supply allocation manifests and earlier reports of anomalous fleet sightings.

After running the predictive model, the probability weight assigned to the Sela II system rose significantly.

"Then there's this," Mira opened an audio file. The voice was heavily processed, but a male tone laden with terror was still recognizable: *"—I, I'm just a navigator—we were hired to deploy a second batch of beacons on the outer rim of Sela II—*

*"The employer didn't show his face, and payment was routed through an anonymous account—but when we drew close, we detected intense passive scanning and a psionic disruption field. My captain felt something was off and wanted to pull out, but an unknown pulse disabled our stern engine—*

*"We drifted for three days before a passing smuggler ship picked us up—the captain told me to shut my trap, saying if we said another word, we'd both end up dead—"*

"Has the navigator's identity been verified?" Valerie asked.

"Verified. The freighter he served on indeed lost contact for a stretch of time around then, and when it reappeared, its hull bore structural damage while the crew remained tight-lipped. My crew tracked down the navigator—he owed a massive gambling debt to a casino and spilled his guts just to stay alive," Mira explained.

Multiple leads were converging on a single destination.

"The likelihood is high," Valerie concluded. "The Sela II system and its abandoned 'research outpost' have very likely been converted into a secret prison housing Raynor, Matt, and the others.

"The supply flow, anomalous fleet movements, reinforced scanning and disruption fields, alongside the Ghost team's cleanup operation—all match the parameters of a high-security clandestine detention site."

Mira slammed her fist into her palm. "We've got our location! What's the plan? A direct assault?"

"Further verification is necessary," Valerie maintained her composure. "We require firmer proof that the targets are truly there. Ideally, we need detailed intelligence on the prison's internal layout, defensive complement, and security systems.

"A blind frontal assault carries too high a risk; the Dominion has likely deployed heavy garrisons and lethal traps there."

"Deep reconnaissance—" Mira scratched her chin. "Defenses there are bound to be tight, making standard recon methods nearly impossible. I have some skilled operators under my command adept at stealth and infiltration, but pitting them against the Dominion's elite Ghosts and a secret base potentially bristling with traps—"

"We need a method of reconnaissance that is far more covert and difficult to detect," Valerie brought up the star map, her gaze landing on the direction representing the Haven system. "Zeratul's Dark Templar might be able to assist.

"Their psionic stealth and infiltration capabilities were already proven on Korhal IV."

"The Protoss? Would they be willing to help?" Mira voiced her doubts.

"Zeratul has consistently remained invested in Raynor's safety. We share intelligence and our goals align," Valerie began drafting an encrypted report to Zeratul and Osiris, summarizing all accumulated intelligence on Sela II and "Hyena's Den." "I will synchronize our analytical findings and recon request to them.

"Concurrently, we must maintain operations at Deadman's Port to dig up details regarding the prison's internal routines—even if it's merely fragmented guard shift patterns or facility vulnerabilities."

Mira nodded. "Understood. I'll have my people keep a close watch on anyone tied to the Dominion prison system to see if we can pry open a few more mouths.

"Get things ready on your end too. If the Protoss agree, the recon mission could kick off very quickly.

"We need a detailed extraction and departure strategy—Sela II isn't a place you can just stroll into and leave as you please."

Valerie's encrypted report was dispatched through a preset covert channel, simultaneously reaching the *Everlasting Seeker* and the Leviathan where Zeratul was stationed.

Upon receiving the report, Osiris' logical cores rapidly evaluated the credibility and strategic value of the intelligence.

With multiple independent leads cross-referencing and pointing decisively to the same target, the probability of Sela II serving as the covert detention site had crossed 78%.

He approved Valerie and Mira's continued intelligence-gathering efforts at Deadman's Port and directed them to keep secondary, lower-probability candidate sectors derived from the analytical models under surveillance to guard against the Dominion deploying multiple sites or transferring prisoners.

The Dark Templar's psionic stealth capabilities were indeed ideal for executing such high-risk infiltration reconnaissance, and Zeratul felt a personal responsibility to confirm Raynor's whereabouts.

He agreed to dispatch an elite Dark Templar recon squad—which he would personally select and lead—to conduct an on-site confirmation in the Sela II system.

However, mindful of the lessons learned on Korhal IV, he emphasized that this operation was strictly reconnaissance; they would extract immediately upon securing intelligence and avoid engaging the garrison unless absolutely forced to.

Although Kerrigan was eager to rescue Raynor, she understood the necessity of avoiding further alerting the enemy. Reining in her impatience, she refrained from mobilizing the Swarm to advance toward the Sela II system.

The operational framework was swiftly established: Zeratul's squad would conduct close-range reconnaissance to secure core intelligence regarding the prison's layout, garrisons, and security networks; Valerie and Mira would continue unearthing potential internal vulnerabilities or personnel information at Deadman's Port; and Osiris would provide long-distance technical support and coordinate potential reinforcement through the *Everlasting Seeker*'s data processing capabilities.
