Night had completely draped over the capital by the time we finished reviewing the cathedral layout, leaving the study dimly lit by the flickering amber glow of the hearth. I turned to Elias, resting my hand lightly over his arm as I smoothed down the folds of my heavy travelling gown. "It is time, Elias. We need to be heading out immediately. I need you to take me directly to the Grand Cathedral."
Elias raised an eyebrow, a slightly strained, nervous laugh escaping his throat as he shifted his weight. "Actually, my love..."
I cut him off smoothly, offering a confident smirk. "The Pope adores you, Elias. He practically swoons at the sight of the Crown Prince. If you go on an unannounced late-night visit under the guise of offering a private royal donation, I can easily ride inside your carriage, activate my Cold Veil to enter the cathedral completely undetected, and then follow you back home once I have searched his quarters."
