The knock on my door came much sooner than I would have liked.
I remained lying on my bed, staring blankly at the ceiling while the events of the day replayed endlessly through my mind. The explosion. The blood. The scar. The system's punishment. Everything felt exhausting.
The door opened slightly and one of the maids stepped inside before bowing respectfully.
"Your Highness, the Duchess has requested your presence downstairs. She has prepared refreshments and wishes to spend some time with you."
I did not even look toward her.
"Tell my mother that I will not be coming down today."
I was not in the mood to eat anything or even had the strength to walk downstairs and probably force myself to eat so it'd be better if I rather just stay here than give mum more reasons to cry.
The maid hesitated.
"Your Highness—"
"I would also prefer not to be disturbed any further."
The maid immediately lowered her head.
"Yes, Your Highness."
