The sound of shattering glass echoed violently throughout the chambers as another crystal vase struck the wall and burst apart across the marble floor in glittering fragments.
Several maids near the entrance flinched so hard they nearly stumbled backward into one another while the room itself seemed to tremble beneath the sheer fury radiating from Ophelia. Heavy breathing filled the silence afterward, sharp and uneven, followed immediately by the frantic pacing of silk slippers against polished stone as she moved restlessly from one side of the chambers to the other like someone incapable of remaining still for even a moment.
Ophelia could not stop moving because if she stopped moving, she would have to fully acknowledge the humiliation burning through her chest.
Everything had been going perfectly before today.
