"Boy... do you even understand what you've done?"
Jiraiya's voice echoed heavily inside the tent.
The atmosphere was tense.
A single lantern burned quietly near the corner while the cold night wind occasionally moved the tent cloth.
Jiraiya sat on one side with a grim expression.
At the centre sat Uzuku silently.
Meanwhile, Toyoma Uchiha stood in front of them without the slightest sign of nervousness.
After Shinnosuke Sarutobi had been publicly humiliated in front of the entire shinobi camp—
Jiraiya had immediately rushed over after hearing the shouting spreading through the camp.
And the moment he arrived—
He instantly realised the situation had already gone too far.
It was no longer only Shinnosuke being insulted anymore.
Even the name of the Third Hokage had started getting dragged into the chaos.
Meanwhile, Toyoma and the other Uchiha had simply stood there and watched it happen.
In the end, Jiraiya had personally stepped in, taken Shinnosuke and the remaining ANBU away from the crowd, and sent them for treatment before the situation completely spiralled out of control.
And now—
He
had come here to speak with the Uchiha commander directly.
Toyoma calmly looked at Jiraiya, with no concern on his face.
"I only did what was right."
His voice remained steady.
"The shinobi risking their lives for Konoha deserve to know the truth."
The tent became quiet again.
Then Toyoma looked directly into Jiraiya's eyes.
"Or are you suggesting that I should help you cover this up?"
His tone became colder.
"And let that bastard walk away freely?"
Uzuku quietly looked between Jiraiya and Toyoma Uchiha.
The atmosphere inside the tent had already become heavy enough.
Finally, Uzuku slowly spoke,
"I think it would be best if we discuss this calmly."
The lantern light flickered softly as silence briefly spread through the tent.
Jiraiya slowly looked toward him.
"As the commander of this camp..."
His voice carried visible frustration now.
"...you allowed something like this to happen."
Uzuku remained silent.
Jiraiya continued,
"Do you understand how badly this could affect the trust and morale between Konoha shinobi?"
The pressure in his tone gradually increased.
"And if the other villages hear even a whisper about this..."
His expression darkened slightly.
"...do you understand how laughable Konoha will become to them?"
For a brief moment—
The only sound inside the tent was the cold wind brushing against the cloth walls.
Then Jiraiya slowly turned toward Toyoma.
"Boy..."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"You didn't just destroy the basic trust between Konoha shinobi today."
The atmosphere instantly became colder.
"You openly disgraced the Hokage's name in front of the entire camp."
Toyoma quietly stared back at him.
There wasn't even the slightest hesitation on his face.
"If the Hokage had taught his son how to be a proper shinobi instead of teaching him treachery..."
Toyoma's voice remained calm.
"...then his name would not have been disgraced by his son's actions."
Uzuku's expression immediately changed slightly after hearing those words.
Even Jiraiya's eyes hardened.
But Toyoma continued anyway.
And this time—
His voice became much sharper.
"And you..."
His gaze stayed locked onto Jiraiya.
"...have no right to judge me for what I did."
The air inside the tent suddenly felt suffocating.
"I won't tolerate people using the Uchiha as scapegoats for their own crimes."
Every word came out cold and firm.
The anger hidden beneath Toyoma Uchiha's calm expression was finally beginning to surface.
"I've tolerated enough of your disrespect already."
Jiraiya suddenly stood up from his chair.
The wooden legs scraped loudly against the ground.
"Hey, kid..."
His voice had completely lost its earlier patience.
"Don't think you can keep disrespecting your elders endlessly."
The pressure inside the tent instantly became heavier.
"I've tolerated your behaviour long enough."
Jiraiya stared directly at Toyoma now.
"From insulting the Hokage to everything you've done until now..."
His eyes narrowed sharply.
"Do you really think you can run wild just because the Uchiha clan is backing you?"
Nearby, Uzuku's expression immediately hardened after hearing those words.
The atmosphere had already become dangerously tense.
But Toyoma showed no sign of backing down.
He calmly looked back at Jiraiya.
"Respect is earned, Jiraiya."
His voice remained cold.
"Not given."
A brief silence spread inside the tent.
"You've done nothing for the Uchiha that deserves our respect."
Jiraiya's expression darkened instantly.
But Toyoma continued speaking anyway.
"What?"
A faint mocking smile appeared on his face.
"Just because you carry the title of Sannin, you think everyone should respect you?"
Then suddenly—
Toyoma laughed quietly.
The sound felt unusually cold inside the silent tent.
"I think you've forgotten something."
His eyes slowly sharpened.
"The title given to you came from surviving."
The air inside the tent became suffocatingly heavy.
"Meanwhile..."
Toyoma's voice lowered slightly.
"...the people who should truly get respect are the Uchiha who fought until death."
For the first time—
A trace of emotion appeared in his eyes.
"People like my parents."
The lantern flame flickered softly.
"They fought and died for Konoha..."
His jaw tightened slightly.
"...yet nobody remembers them."
The silence inside the tent became painful.
"Why?"
Toyoma stared directly at Jiraiya.
"Just because they weren't related to Hiruzen Sarutobi."
Uzuku quietly lowered his eyes after hearing those words.
Even Jiraiya froze briefly.
"So if you're expecting respect from me..."
Toyoma's voice became cold once again.
"...then you should forget about it."
The pressure in the tent rose sharply.
"To me, you're nothing more than an accomplice of the surotobi."
Every word landed heavily.
"A man without the backbone to stand against his own teacher and tell him when he's wrong..."
Toyoma slowly stepped forward.
"...yet still stands on moral high ground in front of the victims."
Toyoma Uchiha's words left the entire tent silent.
Nobody spoke.
Not even the sound of breathing could be heard clearly anymore.
Outside the tent, the earlier shouting and movement had already attracted attention.
Genzo Uchiha, Raizen Uchiha, and several other shinobi had quietly approached after hearing the commotion inside.
But the moment they arrived—
They heard Toyoma's final words.
And after that—
even though they remained silent.
No one interrupted.
No one tried to stop him.
At this moment, Jiraiya still stood motionless beside his chair.
Frozen.
For the first time in years—
He genuinely did not know what to say.
He had heard people praise him.
Fear him.
Respect him.
Call him one of the Legendary Sannin.
But never—
never had someone describe him like this before.
And the worst part—
A part of him understood why those words hurt so much.
Because beneath Toyoma's anger...
There was truth hidden inside it.
A truth Jiraiya himself had never fully faced directly.
Even he had never thought about himself in such harsh terms before.
The cold night wind quietly brushed through the tent opening.
Then suddenly—
Toyoma calmly looked toward Uzuku.
"I have nothing more to discuss here."
His voice had completely returned to calmness again.
As if the earlier outburst had never happened.
Without waiting for anyone's reply—
Toyoma turned around and began walking out of the tent.
The lantern light stretched his shadow across the ground as he slowly disappeared into the darkness outside.
And all the people present—
could only silently watch his back as he left.
Uzuku quietly looked toward Jiraiya, who still stood motionless near the tent entrance.
The atmosphere inside the tent had become strangely heavy after Toyoma left.
Even the cold wind entering from outside felt uncomfortable now.
Uzuku slowly exhaled.
Honestly—
Even he felt Toyoma's words had crossed a line.
Jiraiya and the other Sannin had never openly stood against the Uchiha the way the village elders or Hokage often did.
Because of that—
Most Uchiha neither hated nor feared the Sannin the same way they did the higher-ups of Konoha.
In many Uchiha eyes—
The Sannin were still shinobi who fought for the village on the battlefield with their own lives.
That alone earned them some level of respect.
But today—
Toyoma had described Jiraiya in a way none of them had ever truly considered before.
And the worst part was—
Some of those words carried enough truth to leave even Uzuku unsettled.
After a brief silence, Uzuku slowly lowered his head slightly.
"Jiraiya-sama..."
His voice was calm and respectful.
"I apologise for Toyoma's behaviour toward you."
Jiraiya remained silent.
Uzuku continued carefully,
"He is still young blood."
The lantern light flickered quietly beside them.
"And after being falsely accused like that... he failed to control his emotions."
Uzuku slowly raised his eyes toward Jiraiya again.
"He did not truly intend to disrespect you."
For several seconds—
Jiraiya said nothing.
His face remained expressionless.
But that silence only made the atmosphere feel heavier.
Outside the tent, faint voices from the camp could still be heard in the distance.
Then finally—
Uzuku spoke once more.
"What Toyoma said came from anger."
A faint bitterness appeared in his voice.
"So please... do not take it to heart."
This time—
Jiraiya slowly looked toward Uzuku.
Their eyes met briefly.
For a moment, Uzuku almost felt as if Jiraiya wanted to say something.
But in the end—
Jiraiya only gave a small nod.
Then, without another word—
He quietly turned around and walked out of the tent.
The cloth entrance moved lightly behind him as the cold night wind entered once again.
And after Jiraiya disappeared into the darkness outside—
Uzuku remained standing there silently.
A heavy feeling slowly settled inside his chest.
Because he genuinely did not know anymore—
Whether Jiraiya would forgive Toyoma for those words...
Or whether something between the Uchiha and the Sannin had quietly changed tonight.

Author note:
Hello everyone, hear_tteeth here.
This chapter was probably one of the hardest chapters for me to write till now.
Not because of action...
But because of emotions and perspective.
For a long time in the story, many things were left unsaid between the Uchiha and the village. This chapter was basically those buried frustrations finally exploding out.
I also wanted to show that this conflict is not simply "good side vs bad side."
Every character here has their own belief:
Jiraiya wants stability for the village. Toyoma wants truth and accountability. Uzuku wants to stop things from breaking apart completely.
And honestly, from their own perspective, none of them fully thinks they are wrong.
Also, this chapter is important because it starts changing how certain characters view each other from this point onward.
Anyway, thank you all for reading and supporting the story till now.
The next chapters will continue digging deeper into the political tension inside Konoha and the consequences of everything happening at the border.
And yes...
Things are only getting messier from here.
