"Woo-hoo! Break time's over, ya metal meanies!"
Harley's triumphant whoop was a declaration of war as her mallet crashed into the first energy cage. The shimmering field flickered violently before shattering into a thousand silent sparks.
A terrified Bellsprout and a dazed Vulpix tumbled out, blinking in the sudden light. The HYDRA agent holding the cage controls spun around, raising a stun baton with a snarl.
Harley met him with a wild, unpredictable swing. It wasn't a clean hit, but it was effective. The mallet's side clipped his shoulder, sending him stumbling back into a tree.
Before he could recover, Houndour was on him. A blur of black fur and orange markings, the Pokémon barked fiercely and nipped at the agent's heels, keeping him off balance and thoroughly disoriented.
Ivy didn't need to shout. A faint, emerald glow pulsed across her skin as she reached out with her will.
The forest floor answered. Thick, thorny vines erupted like angry serpents, lashing out with purpose. Two HYDRA agents found themselves wrapped from ankle to shoulder before they could even raise their weapons.
The vines lifted them effortlessly into the air, then slammed them just hard enough against a thick oak. The impact was solid, but controlled. They slumped, unconscious.
In Ivy's arms, Budew emitted soft, rhythmic pulses. Each pulse was a gentle command. Nearby shrubs responded, growing rapidly and tangling together to form prickly, living barriers that funneled the remaining agents away from the huddle of frightened Pokémon.
Batgirl's eyes were everywhere at once. She saw an agent on the periphery, lining up a net launcher at Harley's exposed back.
Her hand moved in a blur. A precision batarang flew, striking the launcher's firing mechanism with a sharp clang.
The device sparked, its internal gears jamming with a grinding whir. The agent cursed, shaking it uselessly.
Frogadier was a silent blue streak. He zipped between two other agents, using Quick Attack to knock their legs out from under them. Before they could rise, a focused Water Pulse drenched their comms units, short-circuiting them with a hiss of steam.
Batgirl noted the way the remaining agents regrouped, covering each other. They were well-trained, not panicking. This wasn't a random poaching squad.
One of the HYDRA operatives, seeing their coordinated efforts falling apart, pulled a small, handheld device from his belt. He thumbed a switch.
A high-frequency whine sliced through the air. It was a physical pressure against the eardrums.
The wild Pokémon's frightened cries turned into pained whimpers. The Teddiursa covered its ears, shaking. The forest itself seemed to recoil.
Ivy gasped, a hand flying to her temple. The sound wasn't just noise; it was a raw, screeching ache in her connection to the Green. The plants around her shuddered, their growth stuttering.
In her arms, Budew whimpered softly, its bright blue-green buds drooping as if suddenly dehydrated.
"Hey! Leave Red's little flower-buddy alone, ya big meanie!"
Harley's roar cut through the debilitating whine. The playful chaos in her eyes was gone, replaced by a hard, protective fury. She charged the agent with the sonic device, mallet held high.
Houndour, sensing her rage, broke off from harrying its target. It unleashed a powerful Ember, a stream of small fireballs that forced the agent to dive sideways to avoid being singed.
Batgirl's mind raced, analyzing the frequency pattern on her cowl's display. Sonic disruption, targeted at biological nervous systems and delicate energy fields. Standard EMP modulation should scramble its core processor.
Her hand went to her belt. She didn't throw a standard batarang.
The specialized EMP batarang hit the sonic emitter dead center. There was a sharp POP, a puff of acrid blue smoke, and the whine died instantly.
The sudden silence was almost as shocking as the noise had been. The frightened Pokémon's whimpers slowly subsided into confused sniffles.
Batgirl was already moving, flanking the remaining agents. "Frogadier, on the left! Create an opening!"
Ivy took a deep, steadying breath as the painful static cleared from her senses. The forest sighed in relief with her.
Her plants, free from the sonic disruption, responded with renewed vigor. Thick roots erupted to trip advancing agents. Broad, waxy leaves unfurled to obscure their vision.
With Budew now pulsing calmly in her arms, Ivy directed the flora with a surgeon's precision. A wall of thorny brush physically pushed two agents, yelping, into a shallow, bramble-filled ravine where they couldn't cause more trouble.
Her gaze swept the clearing, checking every wild Pokémon. No one was harmed. The forest was secure.
Harley, having just pried open the last cage, found herself face-to-face with the HYDRA team leader. He was a grim-faced man with a prominent serpent insignia on his uniform.
He didn't waste words, raising a heavy, upgraded energy net launcher.
Harley just grinned, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "Ooh, a bigger net! You really thought that through, huh?"
She met his attack not with defense, but with a dizzying, aggressive flurry. Her mallet swings were wide, unpredictable, and constant, forcing him to backpedal just to avoid being hit.
Houndour circled, a low growl in its throat. It lunged, not to bite, but to harry, using Feint Attack to snap at the man's weapon hand and keep him perpetually off-balance.
Batgirl saw the opening. "Now, Frogadier!"
Frogadier used Double Team. Three identical blue images split off from him, circling the HYDRA leader in a confusing blur.
The leader hesitated for a split second, unsure which target was real. It was all the time Batgirl needed.
She closed the distance in a fluid dash. One end of her escrima stick delivered a precise, non-lethal strike to his solar plexus.
The air left his lungs in a pained whoosh. His eyes rolled back, and he crumpled to the forest floor, unconscious.
The last two remaining agents froze, looking from their fallen leader to the trio of women and their very capable Pokémon. The fight had left them.
Batgirl adjusted her grip on her escrima sticks, ready to move in and secure them.
The low, guttural growl started not as a sound, but as a vibration deep in the earth. It traveled up through the soles of their boots, a primal tremor that had nothing to do with machinery.
The trees around the clearing shuddered, leaves rustling violently without any wind.
Then came the roar.
It was impossibly deep and vast, a sound of pure, raw power that ripped through the air. It shook leaves from branches and sent a wave of primal fear through every creature in the clearing—hero, villain, and Pokémon alike.
From the dense, dark foliage of the highest, craggiest peak overlooking the clearing, a shadow fell. It was colossal, blotting out the dappled afternoon sunlight and plunging the battlefield into sudden gloom.
With a ground-shaking THUD that sent dirt and pebbles flying, it landed.
It was a behemoth of living metal and rock, standing nearly four times taller than a man. Its armored plates were a deep, obsidian sheen, scarred and formidable. Jagged horns crowned its head.
And its eyes burned with a fierce, unwavering red light, fixed with undeniable intent on the scene of conflict below. The mountain itself had come to life, a towering, furious guardian.
