The walk back to the orphanage was slower than the walk there. By the time the six brothers reached the gravel driveway of Grace Orphanage, the sun was beginning to set, but the air remained thick with heat. Their clothes were damp with dried sweat and dust from the road.
As they walked through the front door, the sound of a bell rang out from the end of the hallway.
"Is that the dinner bell?" Nael asked. He looked at Alexander with a hopeful expression. "I'm so hungry I could eat anything."
"Me too," Lucas agreed. He was limping slightly from the blister on his heel. "I just want a big plate of chicken and a cold glass of wine."
Lara greeted them. "Oh hi, you're back? Please change your clothes and come to dinner with us."
They changed clothes as soon as possible and came down later. They couldn't believe how eager they were to have dinner right now.
