Chapter 625: Slaughtered Men and Gods (1)
The Battle of the Colosseum Nears its End
Inside the Colosseum, the earth-shattering battle was transitioning from its climax to its conclusion.
After the fierce fighting, the arena was a mess.
Only the four strongest Demons remained. The rest had either been blasted into dust by Black Adam's lightning or flattened into meat patties by Clark. Although the Demons were strong, they were no match for warriors who surpassed the gods, like Shazam (Black Adam) and Clark.
The situation on the other side, however, was not good.
Not a single one of the seven Angels had died. Diana and Martian Manhunter were heavily injured and losing ground.
The Six-Winged Angel possessed the legendary "Resurrection" magic. Whenever one of its comrades died, it immediately brought them back to life. After this happened several times, the two heroes were forced to change their target.
The Angels' strength, speed, and defense were inferior to the Demons', but they wielded various forms of magic: creating illusions, swapping positions, energy pulses, psychic shocks, spiritual attacks, and so on—a constant barrage of unpredictable tactics.
"I think we should change our strategy," Martian Manhunter suggested after dodging an attack.
"I agree," Diana caught her breath. "The Six-Winged Angel's ability is too bizarre. Dragging this out will only hurt us."
"You go, or I go?"
"I'll go. You be careful."
"Don't worry, I know how to hide."
As soon as the words left her mouth, both heroes surged forward, shooting toward the cluster of Angels like sharp arrows. Mid-flight, Martian Manhunter suddenly bent down, grabbed Diana's ankle, and hurled her toward the Demon that closely resembled Illidan.
This sudden move was beyond everyone's expectations.
Before the Demon could react, Diana's longsword pierced its neck, severing its large head. After landing, she swiftly cast her Lasso of Truth, binding the body of another Demon.
Clark didn't hesitate. He flew straight toward the bound Demon, winding up his right hand and slamming all his power into the Demon's head.
The punch connected squarely, leaving no room for escape.
Boom!
A shockwave mixed with blood and shredded flesh swept outward like a hurricane. The skull shattered, and Clark's fist drove directly into the brain. The Demon died instantly, flying backward and skidding for thousands of meters in the lava.
In a flash, two Demons were taken out.
Teth-Adam's eyelids twitched as his mind churned. The three heroes had incredible teamwork. There was no consultation or dialogue; a mere glance was enough to understand the other's intentions. Such powerful warriors, coupled with such skillful coordination, meant their combined strength was far more than $1 + 1 = 2$.
In fact, the Justice League had gone through countless trials even before its formal founding.
From the initial Kryptonian war to the later Clones, Parasite Superman, and the recent Parallax Sinestro, every battle had been a matter of life or death. Adversity quickly tests one's will. The six were no longer novices. They clearly understood their teammates' abilities and fighting styles, and knew precisely when to leverage their strengths.
Clark exhaled. "You should have come over sooner."
"That side was trickier," Diana flicked the blood from her sword. Her gaze shifted to the two remaining Demons.
"We need to hurry. J'onn can't hold out much longer."
"He'll be fine."
Despite the words, their actions were decisive. Both charged forward simultaneously, heading directly for the bulky Flame Behemoth.
Terror-of-the-Abyss was its name, the most powerful of the nine Demons. In addition to fire magic, it possessed unbelievably exaggerated strength and defense.
Black Adam's Treachery
Watching the two figures retreat, Teth-Adam's eyes flashed violently. Killing intent subtly emerged, like a venomous snake poised to strike.
Before coming here, he had scorned the so-called Big Six superheroes, not caring about them at all. Unfortunately, after a single battle, he realized things were far more complicated than he imagined.
These three were strong—strong beyond expectation.
The one called Superman was his peer. Their strength, speed, and reaction time were evenly matched, and Superman's defense was arguably superior. Aside from the weakness of not knowing magic, he was a perfect warrior.
The other two were slightly weaker but had distinct advantages. The green-skinned Martian Manhunter possessed formidable psychic abilities, and Wonder Woman wielded the Sword of Hephaestus, the Lasso of Truth, and the Bracelets of Submission—divine weapons even the Gods envied.
Especially the Sword of Hephaestus, its sharpness was bone-chilling.
If the three combined their efforts, Teth-Adam estimated he would have, at best, a forty percent chance of winning.
Realizing this, Teth-Adam unconsciously clenched his fists. The killing intent boiled outward, unstoppable.
Their goal, like his, was to obtain the Rock of Eternity and restart the Council of Eternity, using the Council's power to influence the world's direction. Shared goals would inevitably lead to one of three outcomes: abandonment, cooperation, or enmity.
As a wielder of the Power of the Six Gods, Teth-Adam would absolutely not abandon the Rock of Eternity. He also refused to cooperate with these people. That left only one path.
Kill them and remove the obstacles!
Teth-Adam instantly made his decision. He began collecting the dead Demon corpses on the battlefield, piling them into a small mound. He then used ancient Egyptian witchcraft to melt the Demons' flesh and blood.
The blood-mud spread outward, growing faster and faster, instantly becoming a bloody lake spanning thousands of meters. The surface of the lake churned, and occasionally, an oppressive low growl could be heard, as if some terrifying monster was about to burst forth.
The heroes instinctively looked back. The remaining Demons and Angels also stopped, watching with confusion and alarm.
Teth-Adam dropped to one knee, praying toward the River of Blood.
"What is he doing?"
"I don't know, but it feels wrong," Martian Manhunter flew over. "Should we stop him?"
Diana hesitated, glancing at Clark.
"Let's wait and see. He fought alongside us, after all."
Her statement was reasonable. Diana and Martian Manhunter couldn't argue. While they were wary of Teth-Adam, they couldn't initiate an attack simply based on suspicion.
The hoarse incantation echoed in the air, radiating a chillingly bizarre aura.
The Angels were the first to react. They shouted unintelligible words and charged toward the Blood Lake. The two remaining Demons didn't attack but ran away in terror.
Their actions only deepened the heroes' confusion.
Could what's in the lake be even more terrifying than the Demons?
When the incantation ended, the Blood Lake quickly receded, leaving behind dry, dark ground.
Teth-Adam spread his arms.
"Come forth, O departed one dwelling in the Underworld! I call upon you in the name of Ra! Use your blade to harvest the souls of my enemies!"
Awooo!
A howl, seemingly from ancient times, exploded in their ears. The ground cracked, and a monster with a human body and a wolf's head slowly rose.
It stood over three meters tall. Its left eye was gouged out, leaving only a red-glowing right eye. Its body was covered in wounds of all sizes, some exposing bone, others piercing clean through.
There was no blood in its body; it seemed to have been drained. The desiccated figure exuded a suffocating, savage aura, like a Wight.
"Anubis, my eternal God!"
"Though you are dead, your True Spirit remains in the world! I command you, in the name of Ra, to destroy all my enemies and send their souls to the Underworld!"
Teth-Adam lifted his head, staring straight at the three heroes. The killing intent in his eyes was bone-chilling.
