Chapter 611: Wisdom and Power (1)
A Tense Reunion in The Void
The two unfortunate souls, truly rivals until death, were destined to stick together.
They also spotted Luke and were a mix of shock and delight, having finally seen other living people after all this time.
"Who are you?"
"How did you get here?"
"Those are questions I should be asking." Luke paused, then said with some resignation, "You two should probably tend to your wounds, so you don't die."
Carter Hall looked at Luke with confusion. For some reason, the face seemed familiar, as if he'd seen it somewhere before.
Hasshett said nothing, using his magic to treat his wounds. Carter Hall also activated the healing ability of his Scarab Amulet.
Having gone through seven cycles of returning to their starting point, the two had amassed vast experience and knew what their immediate priority was.
Not long after, Linda and Barry appeared, clutching a tangled ball of silk thread, their expressions utterly bewildered.
"What exactly happened?"
"I was walking straight forward, and then I started moving backward."
"Me too," Linda said, putting away the silk thread, looking confused. This was the first time she had encountered anything like this.
Luke's gaze shifted to Carter Hall and Hasshett.
"Aren't you two going to introduce yourselves?"
Hasshett opened his eyes and stared coldly at Luke.
"Who are you?"
His cold words carried arrogance, like an aloof noble.
"Linda!"
Luke made a gesture. "Give him a lesson."
The girl didn't hesitate. She flashed over to Hasshett and kicked him back over ten meters. Hasshett gritted his teeth and roared, summoning the giant Cobra. What followed left him speechless.
With just one punch—just one—the cobra's scaled head shattered, and its body broke into countless crystals.
Hasshett's eyes were wide open. He was completely stunned. Carter Hall was equally shocked.
After dealing with the Cobra, Linda walked up to Hasshett and soundly beat him up using a thousandth of her strength. Then, she dragged the bruised and battered Hasshett over to Luke and tossed him onto the ground.
Luke squatted down, his face expressionless, and asked,
"Do you want to live or die?"
Hasshett suppressed the malice in his heart and said in a low voice, "Who exactly are you?"
"I'm the person who can lead you out. On the condition that you follow my commands. You do exactly what I tell you. If you dare to go back on your word or try to trip me up, I'll end your life."
"Well? Do you agree?"
Hasshett took a deep breath.
"I will obey you."
"Excellent."
Luke looked at Carter Hall. "And you, Mr. Hawkman?"
"You know the way out?"
"I don't know yet, but I will find the exit."
"This isn't an ordinary maze; it's a cyclical world controlled by magic. No matter where you go, you return to the start. You've only just arrived; you don't know how terrifying this place is."
"Effort can change things. Just because you couldn't do it doesn't mean I can't."
"Alright, I'll follow your lead."
Carter Hall leaned on his weapon and stood up. He scrutinized Luke from the corner of his eye. That face was growing more familiar. He finally remembered: this guy was the young man on television.
Luke Shaw, the world's richest man at 21!
How could he be here?
His head was full of questions, but he wisely kept his mouth shut.
With the two now part of the group, Luke resumed his investigation. He was determined to figure out the operational rules of this place.
The Colosseum's Boss
On the Rock of Eternity's Third Layer, inside the Giant Colosseum.
A thrilling battle was underway. After successively defeating dozens of monsters, including a three-headed dog, a demonic ape, the dragon-beast, and the two-headed serpent, Clark and his team finally encountered a boss-level opponent.
It was a four-winged demon—no, to be precise, an Angel with Demonic Wings.
Its body radiated suffocating energy. One eye was pure and flawless, and the other was black and lightless. Every attack caused the air to vibrate.
J'onn said solemnly,
"Is that the fallen angel Lucifer recorded in the Bible?"
Diana scoffed. "Lucifer is the Lord of Hell. He wouldn't be this weak."
Before her words faded, a bright light surged forward—a Holy Light Spear thirty meters long.
Diana raised her shield.
Boom!
The spear collided with the shield, causing an earth-shattering roar.
Clark charged in, striking the Demon-Angel's chest with a punch, sending it flying backward. Before it could land, J'onn appeared behind it. The Martian's hand fell, and:
Crack!
The sound of snapping bone came from the neck.
The Demon-Angel's head bent backward, almost at a one hundred and eighty-degree angle. The next second, a dense white light surged from the wound. The injury healed, returning it to its previous state.
J'onn shook his head. "I knew it wouldn't be that simple."
Diana drew the Sword of Hephaestus.
"The best way to deal with a monster is to cut its head off."
"Clark, help me restrain it."
She pushed off the ground, shooting into the sky like a cannonball. Clark attacked from the flank, continuously maneuvering in the air, dodging one light spear after another. He reached the enemy, grabbed a wing, and forcefully threw it in Diana's direction.
The two crossed paths in mid-air.
The sword flashed, taking off a massive head.
Diana put away the Sword of Hephaestus.
"Time to go fight the next boss."
"No, it's not over yet," J'onn said grimly. "It's still alive."
The headless Demon-Angel slowly climbed back up. Two beams of light erupted from its neck—one pitch-black, the other snow-white. Amidst the swirling light and shadow, a new head grew. Unlike before, this head was half black and half white.
"What the heck is this thing?"
Diana was dumbfounded. She had never seen a monster like this.
J'onn picked up the severed head on the ground. The cut was mirror-smooth. Looking inside, he could see wriggling muscle tissue, but no blood.
"Clark, you should look at this."
J'onn threw the head over. Clark used his X-ray vision. Seeing the internal structure, he frowned.
"An empty shell?"
Before he could finish, the head violently exploded.
Black light waves and white shocks mixed together, forming a destructive energy surge.
Simultaneously, the Demon-Angel roared. Dense spheres of black and white light appeared around its body. The two energies combined, forming beams of black and white light.
J'onn reacted too slowly and was hit head-on by a light beam. He flew straight backward, only stopping when he hit the barrier. Intense pain shot through his chest and abdomen, as if he had been doused with concentrated sulfuric acid.
The black and white light beams not only possessed tremendous impact but also corroded flesh.
J'onn looked down at his wound. The calm look on his face vanished, replaced by extreme seriousness. The Colosseum was not as simple as they thought. If they didn't go all out, they could very well die here.
Diana felt it, too. She raised her shield and charged forward. Clark hovered above, firing high-temperature rays from his eyes. The red beams swept back and forth, colliding with the energy spheres hovering around the Demon-Angel.
Every contact resulted in an explosion. Roars echoed one after another, engulfing the entire Colosseum.
