Chapter 530: The Thunderstorm Cloud Sea
A Desperate Retreat
Over the sunlit ocean, a figure flew at incredible speed. With a deafening sonic boom, the sea surface looked as though it had been sliced open by a sword, leaving a several-kilometer-long trail.
Shortly after the figure vanished, three more hideous, gigantic beasts appeared. They tore through the sea in a chaotic, powerful manner, kicking up waves dozens of meters high.
The two parties chased each other, flying at speeds invisible to the naked eye toward the South Pacific.
Suddenly, a red energy beam pierced the air.
"Bastard!"
Linda cursed under her breath and quickly ascended. The beam struck the ocean, instantly vaporizing the water and leaving a wide, empty zone several meters across.
The other two behemoths also unleashed their heat vision. Three red beams swept up and down, continually compressing her space to dodge. The girl was extremely battered, having been hit by the beams several times. She endured them only through sheer willpower.
The Anti-Parasite Armor on her body had long since been shredded, and her silver battle suit was now a tattered "lingerie" full of holes, barely covering her vital areas.
Linda had been chased for half an hour. Initially, she planned to return to Metropolis, but the appearance of the three giants forced her to change her plans. If a battle broke out in Metropolis, the entire city would be destroyed.
Left with no choice, she headed toward the South Pacific to ask Luke for help.
The Parasite-Supermen were too terrifying. On the entire planet, only Luke had the ability to deal with them.
The speed of the pursuers and the pursued was immense. In moments, they had flown halfway across the globe. After crossing the equator, Linda accelerated again, focusing all her energy on flight. Her speed surged, allowing her to phase through the air as if teleporting.
The three giants behind her also pushed their limits, relentlessly in pursuit.
An Ominous Arrival
Unconsciously, the bright sky disappeared, replaced by dark, heavy clouds. Thunder occasionally boomed, and lightning snaked through the clouds, the flashing white light illuminating the entire landscape.
An unimaginable sense of dread descended from above, as if something terrible was brewing.
Linda frowned, feeling subtly uneasy.
The clouds stretched endlessly. There was lightning but no rain, and those constant flashes of electricity gave her a strange, tingling sensation.
"Did I go the wrong way?"
The girl mumbled, checking her coordinates, which showed no error.
"What's going on? Where is the isolated island? It should be nearby; why can't I find it?"
The weather changed rapidly. Gusts of wind swept in, churning the air and forming one vortex after another. The dark clouds dipped low and, driven by the strong winds, transformed into gigantic tornadoes connecting the sky and sea.
The scale of the tornadoes was so massive that the suction force was drawing seawater up into the sky.
Waves surged and churned, towering dozens of meters high before being instantly shattered by the fierce winds.
The terrifying scene was unnerving; even Linda felt a rising anxiety.
Suddenly, a massive clap of thunder burst in the sky. The whole world turned blinding white. A lightning bolt, incredibly thick, like a spear cast by a god, struck the ocean heavily.
Boom!
The seawater churned. Stray electrical arcs flowed through the water like snakes.
At that moment, Linda finally found her target. Right beneath the water, where the lightning struck, there was a man. His hands were placed over his abdomen, and he was sitting cross-legged in the current.
His hair was long and messy, seemingly unkempt for a long time.
Even though it had been months since she last saw him, Linda instantly recognized him.
"Luke! Why... why are you under the water?"
Before she could finish, a beam of heat vision struck her from behind, hitting her squarely in the back. The girl cried out in pain, flying back several hundred meters, her face pale.
The three behemoths pierced through the winds and appeared beneath the dark clouds. One monster lowered its head, looking on with curiosity. That unshaven face overlapped with the image deep in their programming, instantly triggering the most violent killing intent.
"Kill Luke Shaw!"
"Kill him at all costs!"
The ultimate command was activated. The three behemoths immediately changed direction and plunged downward.
Linda tried to stop them, but it was too late. One monster reached Luke and swung its fist toward his chest. Another fired heat vision. The last one circled behind, aiming to drain his life force.
All three attacks arrived simultaneously.
The Thunder God Returns
Boom!
Luke's body shattered, like countless flower petals. The next second, the light and shadow shifted. The surrounding seawater vanished, replaced by a barren island marred by countless large and small craters.
On the highest hill in the center of the island stood a man. His eyes, glowing with green light, seemed capable of piercing the soul.
With a low shout.
Crackle!
Three bolts of lightning fell from the sky, striking the three behemoths.
The dark clouds churned as if alive. Electrical arcs moved through the clouds, condensing into incredibly thick lightning chains.
Bolt after bolt of lightning struck down from the sky, densely packed, like a sea of thunder. These were not just negatively charged electron streams; they contained an exceptionally terrifying aura.
Thunder boomed continuously for a full ten minutes before slowly subsiding.
The dark clouds dispersed, revealing the clear blue sky. Sunlight shone through the cloud gaps, casting bright columns of light onto the sea.
The three giant beasts were gone, leaving only charred, unrecognizable sludge floating in the water.
Luke ascended without any auxiliary device, floating effortlessly to Linda.
"Why are you here?"
"I... I..."
The girl hadn't recovered from the shock. She stammered, unable to speak a full sentence.
"Something's wrong?"
Linda quickly nodded. "Luke, hurry! That bastard Lex Luthor captured Clark! He... he..."
"Don't worry. Take your time. Whatever it is, I can fix it."
His calm voice held a magical power that soothed her anxiety. The girl's expression returned to normal.
Half an hour later, the two arrived at the desert where the previous battle had taken place.
The Reach spacecraft was gone. The giant beasts had vanished. If not for the colossal craters everywhere, no one would know what had occurred here.
Linda looked around, unable to find Clark, and couldn't help but ask,
"Do you think Kal is okay?"
"Relax. He won't die. At worst, he's just locked up for study."
"Really?"
Luke smiled. "When have I ever lied to you?"
Hearing that, the suppressed grievances in her heart erupted uncontrollably. The girl's eyes widened, and she shouted angrily,
"You ask if you've lied? How many times have you lied to me? You said three months before you left, and look! It's almost the end of the year, and you haven't been back! And last year, with that research, you were gone for half a year! People thought you were dead!"
"You bastard, you never tell the truth!"
Luke shook his head with a laugh. He walked up to the girl and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"It's my fault. I'm sorry for all the worry I caused you during this time. I apologize and I promise, it won't happen again. Just forgive me this once, okay?"
The girl blushed, turning her head away, unwilling to acknowledge him.
Luke took the opportunity to pull her into a hug.
"Did you miss me?"
"Let go! You stink!"
Luke took a sniff. He did smell a bit ripe.
"Let's go home. You can take a shower, change, and then we'll figure out how to take down Lex Luthor and get you some revenge."
