Chapter 344: King of Metropolis (3)

The Ambush at Teapek

When the lights went out, chaos naturally erupted in the main hall. Fortunately, the light returned after only a few seconds, but before the guests could cheer, it began to flicker, threatening to go out completely at any moment.

Brad Watt, sensing the problem, quickly came out, attempting to soothe the guests while dispatching staff to check the electrical systems. Unfortunately, the lighting refused to cooperate, disappearing once more, and even the emergency lights failed.

The strange scenario was unbelievable. Under these conditions, fun was impossible. For their own safety, the guests had no choice but to leave.

Soon, the men and women in the hall were mostly gone, leaving behind only loyal customers or loitering personnel.

Just then, the liquor storage room sounded an ear-splitting fire alarm. Thick black smoke poured out, indicating a fire had started.

The constant trouble gave Brad a pounding headache. Seeing the flames threaten to spread, he had no choice but to arrange for the remaining patrons to leave, letting go of any charges for drinks.

The bustling nightclub became completely empty in just over ten minutes.

Brad called his confidants over and snapped,

"Find out who the hell is behind this!"

His confidant nodded and was about to move, but the lights vanished again. A group of figures in black uniforms surged into the dark hall. These men wore sunglasses and carried weapons. Seeing anyone, they immediately raised their guns and fired without a word.

Their bullets were different from regular rounds; they violently exploded upon impact. These bullets lacked strong penetration but caused high area damage. Over a dozen of Brad's thugs were blown away instantly.

"Damn it! It's the Hongmen!"

Brad's face twisted in horror. He quickly ran toward the back office. The Genesis Society thugs who reacted grabbed their weapons and fought back. Unfortunately, the lighting was too dark. Without night vision goggles, they could only shoot blindly. Even if they managed a hit, they couldn't inflict much damage on the Hongmen members wearing bulletproof vests.

Wang Hu commanded his men to split into three teams: one to secure the underground armory, one to eliminate the Genesis Society thugs in the hall, and the third, led by him personally, to charge the back office to capture Brad Watt. He couldn't be allowed to escape.

The Kingmaker's Strategy

Across the street, Luke, Wu Yue, and Dior silently watched the nightclub descend into pandemonium. Dior asked,

"Should we step in?"

Luke slightly shook his head. "Tonight is Wang Hu's moment. None of you intervene."

Wu Yue scoffed.

"Easy pickings for that guy."

The attack was completely unannounced. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Brad tried to call his boss, Lex Luthor, but the call wouldn't connect. Trying on other people's phones yielded the same result.

The signal for the entire building had been cut off.

"It's over! Those Asian bastards were prepared!"

With the phones dead, there would be no backup. The personnel in the nightclub alone couldn't hold off the Hongmen dogs. Brad's confidant hissed,

"Escape! We have a chance if we get out of the building!"

Just then, rapid gunfire erupted outside the door. Bang! The wooden door exploded, practically splitting in half. Brad didn't think twice; he threw open the window and jumped out.

He was a ruthless man. He landed without making a sound and ran with all his might. In his panicked state, he completely failed to notice the black sedan speeding toward him.

The sedan slammed into him and his confidant, launching them into the air. When they hit the ground, they were unconscious.

The operation was unbelievably smooth. In just half an hour, the Hongmen members secured Teapek, becoming the nightclub's new owners. Of course, the subsequent legal procedures still needed to be handled, but that would follow naturally.

Wang Hu opened the nightclub's safe and distributed the money, jewelry, and valuables among his men. Because they used specialized non-lethal exploding bullets, few Genesis Society members were killed, but many were wounded.

Wang Hu ordered them to be rounded up and held in batches. Then came the familiar interrogation phase. This was a key reason why Luke's group succeeded in unifying Coast City: anyone involved in organized crime inevitably had skeletons in their closet, whether drug trafficking, arms dealing, or smuggling. By obtaining solid evidence and using certain political pressure, they could silence most police. Even if the police knew it was a gang war, they wouldn't dare launch a full investigation due to various constraints.

Of course, private investigations would still happen.

Having followed Luke for years, Wang Hu knew this operation sequence by heart. Under the ruthless actions of the Hongmen members, the Genesis Society's secrets were quickly exposed, including the location of hidden drugs, trade networks, and high-level contacts.

This information was critical intelligence.

Luke sorted and archived the files. He sent the intelligence related to drugs and smuggling to the Metropolis North District Police Chief. He forwarded the information regarding bribery and election dirt to the Republican Party politicians allied with Hongmen's interests.

The sweeping "Operation Clean Sweep" had begun. From this moment on, the Genesis Society would become history.

At 10:00 PM, the operation was successfully completed, with only one item remaining.

In a dimly lit basement, Brad Watt, hands and feet bound, lay on a chair. A bucket of ice-cold water instantly revived him from his coma.

"Long time no see, Mr. Brad Watt!"

Wang Hu laughed softly, pulling a chair over and sitting in front of him, his mocking expression like a wild cat playing with its prey.

Ptoo! Brad spat a wad of bloody saliva, his expression utterly ferocious.

"You yellow monkey, if you want to kill me, hurry up and do it! You think I'm scared of you? Peh!"

Wang Hu wiped the spittle from his face and sneered,

"The Boss once said: There is no man on earth who is not afraid of death. Those who aren't afraid are simply facing something even more terrifying than death."

"Let me guess what makes a man so resolute. Lex Luthor, the Chairman of LuthorCorp, is it him?"

Brad's pupils constricted, a flicker of fear flashing through his eyes.

Wang Hu cackled maniacally.

"You're afraid of him. You dare not betray him. I understand."

Wang Hu clapped his hands. Two bare-chested, muscular black men walked in.

"Give Mr. Watt a special service until he begs for mercy. Remember, if he remains stubborn..."

The big, dark man grunted a confirmation.

"Wang Hu, you bastard, kill me! Kill me!"

"You damn bastard, if you have the guts, kill me!"

"You want to die? It won't be that easy!"

Wang Hu sneered and left the basement.

Upstairs on the second floor, Luke was drinking with the core members of the Hongmen. The victory celebration was filled with wild abandon. Seeing Wang Hu enter, Luke waved him over, personally poured him a glass of wine,

"Come, a toast to the future Organized Crime Boss!"

Wang Hu lifted the glass and downed it in one go. He then refilled the glass, offering it to Luke with both hands.

"Brothers, join me! A toast to the future King of Metropolis!"

"Cheers!"

The crowd roared their assent.

Luke laughed heartily, took the glass, and drank it dry.
