Chapter 341: King of Metropolis (1)
The combat strength of the mutant gorillas was immense. Even the elite special forces soldiers, who represented the peak human fighting ability, were no match for them; the two were simply not on the same level.
Any single gorilla possessed the strength to take on a hundred ordinary men.
Grodd, as the descendant of Gorilla City's ruler, was the elite among elites. As he charged forward, carrying the corpse of a comrade as a shield, the pressure was overwhelming. Sam Lane and Lex Luthor both felt the chilling fear of death closing in. In their panic, they failed to notice the large rat near the water outlet ahead.
The large rat had a swollen belly. It was large not because it was pregnant, but because its stomach was filled with secrets unfit for public disclosure.
From far away in Metropolis, Luke monitored the battle through the rat, utterly speechless at General Sam Lane's performance. The old general clearly hadn't realized that the times had changed while he remained stagnant.
"Ava, help them out. General Lane can't die just yet."
"Understood, Young Master."
Ava initiated the self-destruct sequence. The large rat hiding by the water outlet suddenly rushed out.
Boom!
A massive explosion erupted in the sewer. The rolling air blast knocked Sam Lane and the others several meters away. Had the armor not been shielding them, they might have died on the spot.
Grodd, who was closest to the blast, was engulfed in the shockwave and flames. He didn't even have time to scream before he was sent flying, collapsing unconscious. The other gorillas fared no better. They had no armor for shielding and had to endure the blast with their bare bodies. One was scorched and bleeding from the high heat and flames, falling to the ground with a dreadful howl.
"Fire is the weakness of the hairy, and doors are the weakness of the bulky. Such a simple principle," Luke muttered, shrugging helplessly. He picked up his phone and called Wang Hu.
"Get ready. It's time to consolidate power in Metropolis."
Wang Hu on the other end sounded excited. "When?"
"Don't rush. Wait for my notice."
After a brief conversation, Luke hung up and then contacted friends in the media and political circles. Since Lex Luthor was being so cooperative, how could Luke possibly refuse his goodwill?
The explosion was sudden and completely unexpected. Grodd, having taken the full impact at close range, passed out instantly. The remaining gorillas were also severely wounded, having sustained far greater damage than Sam Lane's group due to their proximity to the blast point.
The pipe began to collapse from the explosion, with rocks constantly tumbling down.
Sam Lane coughed violently, his head throbbing as if it would explode. It took him a while to regain his senses.
"How are you all? Is everyone alright?"
Weak responses came from nearby. Lex Luthor glanced behind him, his voice hoarse.
"What happened? Who threw that bomb? Was it you, General?"
Sam Lane gritted his teeth. "It wasn't me, and it wasn't the gorillas. It was a third party!"
Lex Luthor's expression flickered. A third party? An unknown faction lurking in the background of this small sewer? Who was it? Who was operating in the shadows?
What was their motive? Was it good or ill will?
"We must leave immediately. We can't stay here."
Sam Lane agreed with the assessment. He helped his injured, but still living, subordinates and began retreating the way they came. Unfortunately, they had forgotten that the rear had been blocked by the gorilla that had circled around.
This gorilla was the only one in the area unaffected by the explosion.
As it raised its electro-gun and aimed at the group, Sam Lane and the others truly felt the terror of imminent death.
"Die!"
The gorilla let out a cruel laugh. The next second, a streak of red lightning flashed into its field of vision. Its body was lifted uncontrollably into the air and slammed heavily onto the ground.
"Who? Who is attacking us?"
Its answer was a flurry of tiny, almost indistinguishable fists. Using his super-speed, Barry delivered hundreds of punches in a single second. Though each punch lacked great force, the accumulated damage was significant.
The gorilla was stunned. Its vision began to blur. Unable to withstand the assault, it passed out.
Having dealt with the gorilla, Barry turned his attention to the people in front of him. Lex Luthor was a famous Metropolis billionaire, constantly featured in magazines; the bald head was his trademark. Barry recognized him instantly. As for the old man next to him...
After a careful look, he finally remembered.
"You're from A.R.G.U.S.! General Lane, the director of A.R.G.U.S.!"
Sam Lane scoffed, showing no gratitude for being saved.
"Who are you? Why are you here?"
Barry didn't want to answer that question. He deeply resented organizations like the FBI and A.R.G.U.S., which were constantly trying to cause trouble for him. They had even once staged a robbery to try and capture him.
Knowing their identities, Barry simply left, flashed over to Grodd, stunned all the roaring gorillas lying on the ground, and then called Sergeant Charles, telling them to come here to arrest the culprits.
The series of stunning actions left Sam Lane wide-eyed. Is this guy from Mars?! To hand over such a critical case to the local police!
Even worse, those police officers were already heading toward the underground base.
The thought caused Sam Lane to ignore his aching body. He frantically pulled out his phone to call the Central City Police Chief—this matter absolutely could not involve the local police.
Barry, quick as a flash, snatched the phone out of his hand.
"Kid, are you asking to die?!"
Sam Lane roared, instinctively pulling out his pistol. The next second, the pistol disintegrated into a pile of parts.
Such terrifying speed caused Lex Luthor's pupils to constrict, his eyes flashing with disbelief.
"You're the Central City Flash Kid?"
Barry snorted. "I don't talk to bastards who experiment on humans. You two stay right here. No one moves. If anyone tries, I'll knock them out."
Sam: "..."
Luthor: "..."
After stunning the two men, Barry located Kahn, Drake, and Sam, who were lying in the corner, shaking uncontrollably. The three were in terrible condition. Their height had shrunk from 2.5 meters to about two meters, their cheeks were sunken, their skin was loose, and their muscle mass was gone. The purple skin clung to bone, making them look like dessicated corpses.
Barry was startled and quickly asked,
"They're dying! How do I save them?"
Sam Lane and Lex Luthor were both silent. The way to treat the three men was to make them eat raw meat. The gorillas were the best choice, but this was something that absolutely could not be revealed.
The Flash Kid was clearly an honest, straightforward simpleton. If they told him, he would certainly publicize the news, which would only lead to more trouble.
"Hey! Say something! Aren't they your comrades? How can you just watch them die?"
The challenge left Sam Lane speechless, his face flushing red. He closed his eyes, then opened them again, and whispered,
"They need meat. Raw, bloody meat."
"Give them a gorilla corpse. They will survive if they eat it."
