Water 7, a city built on the deep blue seawall, was a true city of water—famous not only for its legendary shipbuilding industry but also as a paradise for travelers and a bustling trading hub.
The locals were warm, cheerful, and endlessly welcoming.
After wandering around for a while, Sandy and the other three finally found a place where they could exchange Belly.
Luffy immediately pouted. "Sandy, let me hold the money!"
Sandy rolled his eyes. "You idiot, do you even know what kind of person you are? What will you do if you lose it?"
Usopp quickly nodded. "Exactly! Sandy is the most reliable person on the ship!"
Nami narrowed her eyes. "Really?"
Cough, cough.
Usopp instantly backed down. "Pretend I said nothing."
Luffy asked again, "Sandy, is there more Water Water Meat? That Water Water Meat was the most delicious thing ever!"
"Get lost." Sandy groaned. "Do you know how hard it was for me to get a few thousand Belly from Nami? I bought ten pieces of meat and you ate seven of them! And now you're still asking?! No wonder they don't trust me anymore!"
Nami clenched her fist. "Are you two going in or not?"
"Right, right!" Luffy said, suddenly serious. "Sandy, you really don't get it. First we exchange the Belly… then buy meat—no, no! I mean repair the ship!"
Only then did Nami lower her fist.
A moment later, the staff stared wide-eyed when Sandy opened the bag full of gold. They nearly choked on their own breath. They immediately called the manager and ushered the group into a VIP room.
The manager—sweating bullets—carefully examined the gold.
"I have been an appraiser for twenty-five years," he said nervously. "A rough estimate… this gold is worth around one hundred million Belly."
"One—one hundred million?!" Luffy shot up from the sofa, stunned. He never expected such a huge number.
Usopp grabbed him. "Keep your voice down! Do you want the whole island to hear?!"
Luffy whispered loudly, "You'll really give us that much Belly?!"
Usopp slapped his forehead. "I just said—your voice is too loud!"
Sandy remained silent. He felt the gold should be worth even more, but since Nami—an absolute pro in this area—hadn't said anything yet, he didn't interfere.
The manager continued, "The purity and age make it top-grade gold."
Luffy grinned. "That's enough to repair the Merry Go!"
Usopp nodded. "There'll even be some left."
"Then let's use the rest to buy bronze statues!" Luffy said.
Usopp twitched. "…Can we not?"
The manager then bowed and said, "If you agree, please sign and place your handprint. I will prepare the cash immediately."
He handed over a contract.
"Sure! No problem—how many handprints do you want?" Luffy said, excited.
But before he could touch the contract—
Bang!
Nami kicked it out of his hands.
"What's wrong, Nami?" Luffy asked, confused.
Nami lowered her head, her voice cold and sharp.
"I want to clarify three points, Mr. Appraiser.
First—this man next to me is a Great Pirate with a three hundred million Belly bounty.
Second—I reject your previous appraisal.
Third—if you lie again, I'll personally make sure your head rolls."
Only then did the appraiser really look closely at them—and realize Luffy was indeed that pirate.
"My deepest apologies!"
In the end, the gold was exchanged for three hundred million Belly.
After leaving the exchange shop, they saw Luffy spinning the money box like a toy, while Usopp held it protectively and looked around like a paranoid guard.
Sandy slapped his forehead. "Seriously, you two… why don't you just give me the box?"
"No!" Luffy and Usopp shouted in perfect unison.
Sandy groaned. "Look at you idiots. What happens if the Belly gets stolen? What about the ship?"
Eventually, he stuffed all the money into his spatial backpack. Then the four of them continued toward the shipwright base—because Sandy had already sensed trouble with his Observation Haki.
Someone was watching them.
The Franky Family—self-proclaimed bounty hunters of Water 7—had their eyes on the Straw Hats!
How terrifying…
"Nami," Sandy said suddenly as they walked. "How about we change our clothes first?"
Luffy blinked. "What's wrong with our clothes?"
Nami and Usopp looked at Sandy in confusion.
Sandy explained, "Well… how should I put it? You guys do look decent—though far below me—but your clothes are way too tacky."
"Remove the 'far below' part!" Nami snapped.
Luffy put an arm around Sandy. "So you think I can become Pirate King too, right? Hahaha! I knew you had great taste!"
Usopp added, "Of course! I, the great Usopp-sama, am also very handsome."
Sandy stared at them, defeated. Thankfully, Nami finally asked, "Sandy, my clothes are fine, aren't they? Are they really that tacky?"
A light flashed in Sandy's eyes.
"Nami… do you remember in Alabasta—Rainbase—your outfit back then?"
Her eyes widened. "Oh! You're right! I almost forgot! What are we waiting for? Let's go change!"
Luffy, impressed without understanding anything, shouted, "I want to too! I want to too!"
"Fine, fine! You can all change."
Honestly—how old was Usopp? And he was still wearing overalls? That was peak tackiness.
Clothes might seem superficial, but they mattered.
When they walked out of the clothing store, heads immediately turned.
"Who are they?"
"What a great design! Did the store owner create these outfits?"
"I need that outfit! I'm buying one right now!"
Sandy put his arm around Nami's waist and muttered, "Then go buy it already."
But the store owner was nearly crying—they used the changing rooms but didn't buy anything!
Nami now wore a red dress inspired by Alice from Resident Evil. With her natural shoulder-length hair, she didn't even need styling.
Sandy wore a white shirt with a crisp black suit jacket—clean, elegant, stylish, classy.
But…
"Hey, hey! Luffy, look at me!"
"You look amazing! What about me?!"
"Awesome!"
Luffy and Usopp had chosen outfits similar to Sandy's—all formal, all black and white—but they wore them like children pretending to be grown-ups.
Sandy regretted everything.
He admitted it… he had miscalculated.
"Nami," Luffy said after a while.
"What?"
"Let me hold the money box. If I don't, I'll feel discouraged."
"No." Nami didn't even turn her head.
"Aaaaah, I'm discouraged… you should buy me Water Water Meat to comfort me…"
Usopp snapped, "You're still thinking about Water Water Meat?!"
Sandy sighed. "They're still waiting for us on the ship. Let's hurry up and ask around first…"
