The sun had already slipped beneath the horizon, and the moon now hung high in the night sky.
Layers of drifting clouds framed the scene, creating a breathtaking view none of them had ever witnessed before.
Usopp and Chopper leaned against the railing, admiring the sky.
Usopp spoke first.
"The sun has completely set."
Chopper nodded with sparkling eyes. "What a beautiful view!"
"Huh?" Zoro finally woke up, sitting up groggily. "Is it morning already?"
Usopp shot him an annoyed look. "Didn't I just say the sun set?"
"Ah!" Sandy sat up next, stretching.
"Another day I wake up just because I'm too handsome? Huh? How did it get dark while I was sleeping? Never mind, I'm going back to bed!"
Luffy waved him off. "Oi, Sandy, stop sleeping! Get up and look! The sky looks amazing!"
Sandy glanced upward—and froze in shock.
He instinctively spat into his palms, slicked his hair back, and vaulted onto the railing.
"The moon rises above the eastern mountain, hovering between the Big Dipper and the Cowherd. Raise a cup to welcome the guests, recite the poem of the bright moon, sing the chapter of 'Yao Tiao'…"
He paused, "…Shit. Why didn't I memorize these poems properly…?"
Robin giggled behind him. "How refined."
Luffy and Usopp tilted their heads. "What does that even mean?"
Nami didn't care about Sandy's theatrics. Instead, she sat on the deck miserably.
"I can't tell where the wind is blowing us. This is so bad…"
Robin, calm as always, began listing possibilities.
"Hehehe… we might fall straight onto land and the ship will shatter. We might fall into the Calm Belt and become Sea King food. We might fall onto a Marine base and immediately get shot at…"
Usopp nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Stop making terrifying guesses in that calm voice!!"
"What's there to worry about?" Sandy spread his arms.
"Did you forget what kind of ability user I am? Why stress over stuff like that? No matter where we go, the destination is irrelevant—the fun is what matters!"
He and Luffy high-fived.
"Bingo!"
Usopp's eyes turned flat. "You two really ARE from the same village…"
Sandy instantly flashed beside Nami, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"Nami, since the course already drifted, there's nothing we can do. Look—the night sky's beautiful, right?"
Nami shot him a glare.
"Easy for you to say! I'm the navigator. If the ship goes off course, it's MY responsibility!"
Sandy turned toward Luffy.
"Captain, do you blame Nami?"
Luffy laughed. "Nope, hehehe…"
At that moment, Sanji exited the kitchen—saw Sandy touching Nami—and his soul ignited in flames.
"Sandy! Get your filthy hands OFF her! OFF!!"
Sandy ignored him completely.
"With the moon shining, the wind perfect… Beautiful Nami, could you secretly slip me some gold later? Luffy won't know. I'm starving—I need money to buy meat to stash away!"
Usopp facepalmed.
"Can you NOT say it out loud!?"
Duang!
Nami smashed Sandy into the deck.
"Fine," she huffed, "if none of you care, then I won't either. If we fall like Robin said, just accept your fate."
"Baka," Luffy muttered. "I'm not accepting fate… baka—"
Duang!
Clean hit.
Sandy climbed up again. "Wait—didn't we forget something? Aren't we missing… FOOD?"
"Ahhh!!" Luffy shot up. "This is bad! Food is the most important thing! How did we forget!? SANJI!!"
Sanji groaned, "You've been eating non-stop for four days! Besides, we left in such a hurry we didn't prepare supplies. Bear with it until we land!"
"But I'm REALLY hungry…" Luffy whined, rolling on the deck.
Everyone twitched.
But soon, hunger wasn't the only problem—the Merry had begun to descend rapidly.
"Ahhh! Why is the balloon octopus shrinking!?"
"We're gonna die! Nami, do something!!"
"How am I supposed to do anything!?"
Sandy sighed, "Why are you panicking? Don't you still have ME?"
He raised his arms dramatically.
"Space Field! I am God!"
Eyebrows twitched across the ship.
Zoro barked, "Cut the drama! If we crash and die, I'll be the first to slice you!"
Luffy, Usopp, and Chopper shouted together, "Slice you!!"
Sandy's eye twitched.
"Don't order me around! Or I'll slice ALL of you!"
He slammed his palms down.
"Space Float!!"
Right before the Merry hit the sea, Sandy expanded his space field, reducing the momentum and preventing the ship from shattering on impact.
The ship settled gently onto the water.
But…
They were surrounded by towering stone cliffs—like a closed fortress.
Using her peripheral vision, Nami whispered, "Where… is this?"
Zoro squinted. "A fortress, probably."
Robin's eyes narrowed. "Did we actually fall into a Marine base…?"
Sandy scoffed, "What are you panicking for? With the great Sandy here—if they try to catch us, I'll chop them—"
"Hehehe. Chop them!" Luffy echoed.
"Oooh!" Chopper sparkled. "So cool—chop them!?"
But before the bravado could continue, dozens of beams of light fired toward them—followed by an alarm blaring throughout the stronghold.
Everyone exchanged looks.
No way… their luck couldn't be THIS bad… right?
Usopp and Chopper dove into hiding.
Robin let out a small, amused breath.
"Oh? It really might be a Marine fortress. That's quite unfortunate."
Nami panicked, "Hey! What do we do now!?"
Sandy: "Beat them to death."
Luffy: "Punch them away."
Zoro: "Chop them."
Sanji: "Kick them to death."
"Yosh!" ×4
Duang! ×4
Robin chuckled again.
"Robin, now is NOT the time!" Nami shrieked. "Look around—we're being targeted by cannons! Quickly, think of a way to escape!"
Sandy stepped forward, dramatically throwing on the same makeshift cloak and sunglasses Sanji used before.
"Relax… Leave it to me…"
