Chapter 43 - NEW BASE(1)

(Ethan POV)

(3:20 am)

The hotel lobby was almost completely shrouded in darkness with a few dim lights left just in case.

Ethan stood right in front of the main door, all ready. His trusty bag hung from his shoulder, still heavy but now manageable. More importantly, he wore a sparkling new pair of victims–I mean, shoes, generously 'donated' by one of the guest rooms.

Behind him, Elin stood near the entrance with a handbag hanging from her waist.

Ethan: "You sure, that's all you want to carry?"

He pointed at her handbag, raising an eyebrow.

Elin: "Ya. This has all my personal belongings."

Ethan: "Don't you need like a change of clothes?"

Elin: "Change of clothes? We've been wearing the same outfit for a while."

The words left her mouth with a little too much confidence.

Ethan: "The fuck do you mean we? Except for my hoodie, I have been changing every day. So has Dylan. It's just that I didn't pack very many options."

Elin: "Oh..."

Ethan: "....Go change."

Elin began sweating bullets like a damn fountain, meanwhile her eyes searched for whatever excuse lied on the ground.

Elin: "Ummm I..."

Ethan: "What?"

Elin: "The only clothes I have are these and my pajamas."

Ethan: "Seriously?"

Elin quietly, gave a small, embarrassed nod of shame.

Ethan: "All this time you've been here and you didn't think to find a proper change of clothes?"

Elin: "...."

Her silence spoke a thousand words.

Elin: "So should I..."

She gestured towards the hallways.

Ethan: "No just, go wear the police outfit. It's on my bed."

Elin: "Yes!"

She hurried off into the hallways, dumping her purse onto Ethan.

Ethan: (These shoes took long enough to find, finding proper clothes for her will take forever. Let's hope the police ware fits.)

The door swung open revealing Elin, looking a bit redder than usual. The outfit was a perfect fit.

Elin: "Does it look weird?"

Ethan: (Weird?)

Ethan quickly inspected her clothes top to bottom.

Ethan: "No, why?"

Elin: "It's just that, I feel bit tight around some parts."

Guess it wasn't a perfect fit.

Ethan: "Can you move freely?"

Elin: "Wellllya."

Ethan: "Then, it looks fine so just come out and take your purse."

Elin lingered behind the doorway, still a bit hesitant.

Elin: "You sure?~"

Ethan: "Let me rephrase."

He aimed at the door.

Ethan: "Come out now or I will mana blast YOUR ASS!"

Elin: "Yes!"

Elin slowly crept out, abandoning her cover.

Ethan immediately shoved the purse into her hands.

Ethan: (Finally.)

He turned and walked towards the main door with Elin following right behind.

As they stepped out a familiar silhouette slowly came into view, rested against a wall.

Dylan: "You sure took your sweet time."

Dylan: (Why is Elin wearing a police uniform, is it a fashion trend?)

He looked at Ethan, then at Elin and back at Ethan. His gut told him not to ask, not yet at least.

Ethan on the other hand noticed scratch marks and dust along Dylan's arms. Something obviously created through a scuffle.

Ethan: "If you were sooo bored then you should've helped."

Dylan's eyes slipped away.

Dylan: "Why would I? I trusted you had everything under control."

Ethan: "Ahmmm."

Dylan: "You did have everything in control, right?"

Ethan: "More or less."

Dylan: "What does tha–"

Ethan: "Anyways Elin, you're fine with leaving these creatures like this, right?"

Ethan bailed on that conversation as naturally as he breathed.

Dylan: (Now I'm kinda glad to be stuck here.)

Elin glanced at the abominations, now tied together in a miserable heap against a wall. Some of their limbs flailed out of their restraints hopelessly, wishing to be set free.

Elin: "Ya. Everything looks good."

Dylan straightened himself, with his nose held a bit too high.

Ethan: "Great, let's leave."

Elin nodded and took the lead. Both brothers followed right behind.

She took a few moments considering her options and confidently stepped into an alleyway.

It looked more abandoned than the streets but in a different way, unlike the streets which were mostly empty with a few random items lying around, this alleyway had literal junk at almost every other step. The odd smell lingering in the air didn't do it any good either.

Elin: "Ignore the smell, it's just here for some reason."

Ethan: "After what the corpses did to my nose, this is nothing."

After walking for a few minutes she turned left and then right, and continued leading them through many twists and turns.

Each turn made the brothers doubt Elin's knowledge little by little.

Ethan: "Are you sure this is the right path?"

Elin nodded.

Dylan: (She seems pretty sure.)

Elin: "This is a more roundabout way but we are going on the right track."

As they continued the alleyway began to shrink, the further they moved the more it shrunk. Further and further, at this point you couldn't even call it an alleyway anymore, it was just a small gap. Even the walls began grazing their arms, slightly.

At long last she stopped, a deadend. A wall towering in front of them.

Ethan: "Now what?"

Elin: "Our destination is just past this wall."

Ethan: "Of course, do you want me to blow it up?"

Elin: "No need."

She opened the lid of a nearby dumpster and pulled out a rope with a stick attached at on of its ends. She tied one end of the rope under the dumpster.

Her eyes moved up, aiming at something.

She launched the stick upwards, the rope looped around the pipe and dropped back down.

Elin: "Done."

Ethan: "You first."

Elin tugged the rope a couple of times before climbing the dumpster.

Elin: (Good, it's secure.)

With the rope wrapped around her fist she began scaling the wall. Her feet did their best to find proper footing.

Before long she reached the top.

Elin: (Now comes the hard part.)

With caution she slowly slid down, eventually reaching the cold hard concrete.

Elin: "Phew."

She swiftly tossed the rope over, landing right into Ethan's hands.

Ethan: (My turn.)

He followed Elin's footsteps and climbed the dumpster.

Dylan: "Are you sure about this?"

Ethan: "Well, ya."

Dylan: "Not that."

His finger aimed at his bag.

Ethan: "Oh."

He unequipped his bag and handed it to Dylan.

Now lighter he swiftly scaled the wall, dropping down next to Elin.

As he was ready to toss the rope Dylan was already on top.

Dylan: "Here."

He dropped Ethan's bag, and leapt. Perfectly landing on his feet.

Ethan barely caught his bag, stumbling in the process.

Ethan: "A LITTLE heads-up next time?!"

Elin: "We're here."

Ethan: "Blasting the wall would have been quicker."

Elin: "....We're here!"
