Chapter 38 - Kai’s First Conquest Attempt

After finally escaping from the Kyuubi's assault, Kai prepared himself to carry out the plan he had devised since last night. A wide grin once again spread across his face as he imagined what would happen if the plan succeeded.

He was slightly worried because the Fairy Goddess had decided to follow him this time. He only hoped she would not interrupt him with useless comments while he carried out his plan.

"Kai, before you do anything, can you tell me what's going on inside your head right now?"

But it seemed that was impossible. Kai had not even started carrying out his plan yet, and the Fairy Goddess was already questioning him about unnecessary things.

"Why do you even need to know what I'm thinking? Are you going to help me if I tell you?"

Kai was absolutely certain that the Fairy Goddess would refuse to help him because of the rules restricting her.

"Even if I can't help you directly, I can at least stop you from doing something you'll regret later!"

The Fairy Goddess was convinced that Kai was thinking about something bad. Her concern only grew after Kai refused to tell her his plan.

"Relax! I'm just following your advice!"

Kai said that with a confident smile, but it did not reassure the Fairy Goddess at all. She was certain Kai was about to do something foolish.

"Advice? What advice did I even give you?"

"Obviously the advice about getting closer to girls! This time I'm sure I'll succeed! I've already come up with a perfect plan!"

Even though Kai gave her a thumbs-up with an even wider grin, the Fairy Goddess still could not relax before hearing what Kai was actually planning to do.

"I'm sure you still remember my advice correctly, so please don't twist my words however you like! I told you to get closer to all the villagers, not just the girls! Understand? All the villagers!"

Kai immediately covered both of his ears when the Fairy Goddess emphasized the words "All the villagers." He had no desire whatsoever to imagine himself getting close to all the strange residents of this village. He felt like he would lose his mind if that ever happened.

"Kai, stop covering your ears and look at me!"

Even though the Fairy Goddess spoke in a firm tone, Kai did not look at her at all. Instead, he turned his gaze even farther away. He had absolutely no intention of obeying the Fairy Goddess.

"KAI!"

Even though the Fairy Goddess raised her voice even louder and looked increasingly angry, Kai paid her no attention at all. Instead, he tried to escape from her sharp glare, but unfortunately, the Fairy Goddess immediately blocked his path so he could not go anywhere.

In the end, Kai could only give up. No matter how he thought about it, the Fairy Goddess had wings that allowed her to fly after him. He would never be able to beat her when it came to speed.

"Fine! I get it!"

Kai said that with slumped shoulders, all the motivation seemingly drained from his body.

"I can't promise anything, so don't expect too much... but I'll at least try to talk to all the villagers... even if it's only a word or two."

Even though Kai did not sound particularly serious while responding to her request, the Fairy Goddess still smiled happily.

"Good! So what's your plan for getting closer to them?"

"For now, I'm only thinking about how to get closer to the girls."

"Even though I'm a little worried... I suppose that's fine... so what's your plan?"

Kai immediately pouted after hearing the Fairy Goddess's response. Even though she could not help him, she still talked far too much.

"Obviously by increasing their affection toward me!"

"And how exactly are you planning to increase their affection?"

The moment the Fairy Goddess asked that question, Kai instantly revealed a confident smile. He then pulled something out from the small pouch attached to his waist.

"Of course with flowers! There's no girl in this world who doesn't love beautiful flowers!"

Kai answered while showing her a red flower he had found on his way home last night. He had no idea what kind of flower it was, but he considered himself very lucky to have found it during the trip home. That way, he did not have to risk going into the dangerous forest just to pick a single flower.

"Hm... Umm, Kai..."

Unfortunately, the Fairy Goddess did not look impressed by Kai's answer at all. Is there something wrong with the flower I'm showing her? Kai wondered while staring at the flower in his hand.

"Do you realize that every girl has her own favorite flower?"

Kai let out a sigh of relief after hearing that question. For a moment, he thought there was something strange about the flower or some other troublesome issue. Turns out, she was only worrying about something that trivial.

"Of course I'm aware of that... Even though I don't know their favorite flowers, I at least know that Elly will like any flower I give her!"

This world was just like a typical dating sim. You could give gifts to your target in order to raise their affection toward you, but the amount of affection gained depended on how much they liked the gift. The more they liked it, the higher the affection points would rise. Naturally, the opposite was also true—if they disliked the gift, their affection would decrease instead. Of course, Kai already understood those basic rules.

"Well... I can't deny that a kind girl like Elly would accept any gift you gave her, even if she didn't actually like it."

Some games intentionally included characters who were easy to win over in order to make the game easier for players to complete. And Elly seemed to be that kind of character in this world. Kai felt a little guilty for treating Elly so lightly, but because of her gentle personality, he decided to make her his first conquest target.

"Now that you're satisfied, can you move aside? I want to go meet my future wife already!"

The Fairy Goddess pouted after hearing Kai's demand, but she still stepped aside and cleared the path for him. She was still worried about what might happen, but she had no reason to stop him. After all, this was supposed to be the way for Kai to save the village.

The moment the Fairy Goddess moved out of his way, Kai cheerfully continued forward. He still had not put the flower back into his pouch because he planned to show it directly to Elly the moment he entered her house.

It did not take long for Kai to arrive in front of Elly's house. Without wasting any time, he immediately opened the door and stepped inside.

"Good morning, my beloved Elly. Would you accept this beautiful flower as a greeting from me?"

Kai said while extending the flower in his hand without even checking who he was actually offering it to.

"Goldchick, throw that man out of this house!"

"QUACK!"

A powerful kick was instantly driven into Kai's stomach, sending him flying straight out of Elly's house.

The Fairy Goddess, who had been following behind Kai, could only stare blankly at the scene unfolding before her. She still could not fully process what had just happened. Fortunately, she had been floating slightly to Kai's left, so Kai's body did not crash into her and send her flying along with him.

The Fairy Goddess quickly flew toward the spot where Kai had landed to check on his condition. Kai's eyes were spinning in circles, clearly showing that he was unconscious.

It seemed Kai's plan had already failed the very second he tried to put it into action.
