Two more cards slammed onto the Duel Disk. The seven-colored radiance of the Rainbow Dragon intertwined into a rainbow bridge, condensing into a colorful vortex in the sky. A massive dragon's shadow loomed, each section filled with its respective color, until it took on the form of a radiant white dragon sprinkled with water-like hues. Its wings unfurled, exploding into a dazzling halo.
In the adjacent monster zone, the air distorted, crimson energy erupted like volcanic magma from the underground, taking shape as the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Its bone wings swept a sulfurous wind as its crimson eyes blazed—chilling the entire field.
[Malefic Rainbow Dragon: ATK 4000]
[Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon: ATK 2400]
Both fierce dragons descended. Even with mental preparation, Sayer twitched at the sight.
Again—summoning these top-tier monsters as easily as tossing cabbages! Where the hell did Goodwin get such a broken deck?
His last resort, Torrential Tribute, had been neutralized. That meant he only had one play left.
"Activate Set Card! Continuous Trap—Limit Reverse!"
Sayer's set card flipped, opening a vortex on the ground leading to the underworld.
"Limit Reverse revives a monster with 1000 or less ATK from the Graveyard, in attack mode!
I'm bringing back—this one!"
Sayer slammed down the chosen card. A gaunt figure arose from the vortex, stubbornly returning to the field.
"Special Summon Krebons once again!"
[Krebons: ATK 800]
Krebons—a Psychic-Type whose effect can be activated limitlessly each turn by paying LP to negate attacks. Against this monstrous lineup, it was Sayer's optimal play.
"And one more card!" Sayer declared, "Trap Card—Taunt!
In the opponent's Main Phase 1, select one of your own monsters. As long as that monster remains on the field, if your opponent attacks, they can only choose that monster as their target.
I select: Krebons!"
Empowered by Taunt, Krebons beckoned with a wag of his finger, exuding a smirky, taunting aura that drew all attention to himself.
"So that's your plan—no matter how strong my monsters are, as long as they can only attack Krebons, their ATK is meaningless."
Kira closed his eyes, then smiled.
"If that's your wish, then as you please.
Battle! First, Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon attacks Krebons!"
White light blasted from Blue-Eyes's jaws, surging at the tiny psychic monster.
Sayer: "Pay 800 LP, activate Krebons's effect, negate the attack of Malefic Blue-Eyes!"
[Sayer: LP 6400 → LP 5600]
The white wave slammed into Krebons's shield, but was quickly dissipated.
Kira: "Malefic Rainbow Dragon, attack Krebons!"
Blazing rainbow light surged from Rainbow Dragon's mouth.
Sayer: "Pay 800 LP, again—negate!"
[Sayer: LP 5600 → LP 4800]
"A third shot," said Kira. "Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon, attack Krebons!"
A magma-black flame formed in the Red-Eyes' mouth, fired with storm-like force.
"Krebons's effect! Pay 800 LP—again, negate!"
[Sayer: LP 4800 → LP 4000]
All attacks nullified.
Under the crushing presence of the dragons, Sayer wiped a cold sweat from his brow.
"Heh, your attack phase is over. No matter your ATK, as long as my defense holds, I've got nothing to fear."
He still had enough LP to block four more attacks—perhaps he could find another opening.
"Battle phase over," Kira said calmly. "Every Malefic monster was Special Summoned this turn, and I haven't used my normal summon yet.
I'll tribute Malefic Red-Eyes Black Dragon—Tribute Summon!"
Sayer: "!"
He's tributing such a powerful monster? Does his assault never end?
Kira grinned, "Of course it's time to rely on an old friend again—my new soul card—
—Catapult Turtle!!"
Red-Eyes vanished into motes of black flame, a swirling vortex appearing on the ground.
Here it comes: Catapult Turtle, with its reliable heavy shell and back-mounted electro-magnetic cannon!
Catapult Turtle!
[Catapult Turtle: DEF 2000]
Sayer blinked, locking gazes with the seemingly lazy turtle, failing to react for a second.
"Catapult Turtle's effect—tribute a monster to inflict damage to your opponent equal to half that monster's ATK!"
Sayer: "!"
Direct damage by tributing monsters!
"Catapult Turtle's effect—tribute Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon, deal half its ATK—1500 damage!"
Kira snapped his fingers. "Fire."
Blue-Eyes transformed into a cannon shell, loaded onto Catapult Turtle's back. In a flash, a white soul projectile shot straight at Sayer's chest.
Sayer: "Argh!"
[Sayer: LP 4000 → LP 2500]
"Catapult Turtle's effect can activate again," Kira squinted, smiling. "My Catapult Turtle isn't just limited to once per turn, you know."
Sayer's eyelid twitched.
It's not even once per turn!?
He could summon top monsters as often as he wanted—and then catapult them at me as living cannonballs?
Is this even dueling anymore!?
But he struggled on: "Activate set card, Trap Card—Psychic Rejuvenation!
For each Psychic-Type monster on the field, recover 1000 LP!
I have Krebons and Thought Ruler Archfiend, so I recover 2000!"
[Sayer: LP 2500 → LP 4500]
Sayer breathed deeply.
Back to 4500 LP—not great, but enough to hang on.
Even if that turtle isn't limited to once per turn, the only ammo left is Malefic Rainbow Dragon. That's 4000 ATK—2000 damage when launched. Painful, but survivable...
"You think you can endure just Rainbow Dragon as 'ammo', right?" Kira smiled.
Sayer: "!"
This guy…
Kira pressed a behind-the-field button, "Looks like we have the same card, just a different usage.
Activate set card—Continuous Spell: Megamorph!
Equip to Malefic Rainbow Dragon!"
Sayer: "!!!"
He also has Megamorph?
That means Rainbow Dragon's ATK…
"Correct. Now that my LP is lower than yours, my equipped monster's ATK doubles."
Kira nodded. "Because you recovered, my LP is now lower.
So, Malefic Rainbow Dragon's ATK—"
[Malefic Rainbow Dragon: ATK 4000 → ATK 8000]
"ATK... E-eight th-thousand!?"
Sayer was visibly shaken.
An 8000 ATK cannonball!?
Taking even a single hit would ruin him.
Kira: "Catapult Turtle's effect—"
"Wait!"
Sayer frantically waved both arms.
"Director Goodwin! Sir! Please wait, can't we talk about this—"
Kira ignored him: "Tribute Malefic Rainbow Dragon—load, aim, fire!"
An 8000-ATK Rainbow Dragon cannonball soared, exploding with such force that the shockwave nearly punched through Sayer's body. The tremendous impact blasted him back, blood spurting from his mouth as he crashed into the glass wall behind, cracking it.
[Sayer: LP 4500 → LP 500]
Cough cough...
Sayer dropped to his knees, blood pooling beneath his hands.
Alive…
He could barely believe it. He was still alive, still breathing.
Every organ felt like it was burning, his bones melting. This was nothing like a psychic duel—even his very soul seemed to be screaming, on the brink of collapse.
Sayer trembled.
Though still alive, his fighting spirit was broken. He no longer wanted victory—just mercy—frantically searching his mind for any excuse to beg for the Director's forgiveness.
Just then, that cold voice echoed again:
"Catapult Turtle's effect—"
Sayer shuddered.
"W-wait!" Sayer screamed. "You have no monsters left—no ammo in the chamber!"
Hasn't he already fired everything? What ammo remains?
"Oh, but there is."
Kira grinned.
"Catapult Turtle can tribute any monster on the field to deal damage—any monster. Not 'other than itself.'"
Sayer froze.
What?
"So, I tribute Catapult Turtle itself," Kira said. "It has 1000 ATK, so half is 500 damage."
Kira waved dismissively.
"Take my Tamashii—my Catapult Turtle's soul shot."
Sayer's eyes widened.
"No...
Don't—
Please don't—"
Kira: "Fire."
Catapult Turtle's whole body seemed to ignite, as its soul left its shell, riding its own cannon rail.
The Soul Cannon!
Sayer: "Nooooo—!!"
[Sayer: LP 500 → LP 0]
