Chapter 162 - Chapter 161: Evil Military Mage, Bai Tingting’s Hug!

Jinlin City.

Mu Nujiao and Mu Ningxue were walking toward the detection point. Not long after, they finished their work at that location.

"Finally done! We can go back now!" Song Xia said, putting away her detection equipment.

"Let's head to the gathering point and wait for the others."

Everyone nodded and began walking back the way they came.

However, just as they were about to leave, a squad of Military Mages in uniform appeared before them.

"Why are there Military Mages here?" Song Xia asked, puzzled.

At that moment, Mu Nujiao suddenly recalled what Song Jie had told her earlier.

"They must be here on a mission," Mu Nujiao urged quickly. "We still have more detection points to cover—let's hurry back."

Song Jie had warned her to be cautious if she encountered Military Mages in Jinlin City.

Mu Nujiao didn't know how to convince the others, especially since she had no proof that these Military Mages were dangerous.

"They seem to be coming toward us!" a girl said nervously.

"Hello!" one of the Military Mages called out, jogging over with a friendly wave.

Mu Nujiao's heart sank. It was too late to leave now.

The team approached them, and the leading man smiled. "Are you students here for practical training?"

"We're all from Imperial Capital Academy and Pearl Institute," Song Xia answered directly.

Hearing that, the man asked again, "Where are the others? It can't just be you, right?"

"They went to another detection point."

This squad was led by none other than Lu Nian, who had come to Jinlin City after resigning from his official military post. Despite opposition from higher-ups, he had decided to take matters into his own hands.

Lu Nian took out his military identification. "Hello, I'm Lu Nian, Commander of the Northern Military Department."

Everyone looked at the badge—real military credentials.

Lu Nian continued politely, "Is there a student named Mo Fan among you?"

"Yes, there is. Do you need him for something?"

Lu Nian nodded. "We need his cooperation for an urgent matter."

"We're about to head back," Song Xia said. "Why don't you come with us and wait for him there?"

Wait?

Lu Nian had already waited long enough. He couldn't delay any further.

"Could you take us to him? This matter is extremely urgent—we don't have much time," Lu Nian said, his expression turning anxious. "I'll have my men escort the others safely back."

Song Xia turned to her teammates. "Sisters, I'll go with them."

Everyone nodded, reassured by the Military Mages' presence.

However, Mu Nujiao didn't share their sense of relief. Her body tensed as she studied the soldiers' expressions. Something about them didn't feel right.

"A few of you stay here and protect them," Lu Nian ordered.

"Yes, sir!" the soldiers replied in unison, their faces emotionless.

"Alright, student, please lead us," Lu Nian said with a smile.

"Okay."

As Song Xia started forward, Lu Nian and the others followed quickly behind.

"Let's go. We should head back and wait for them," Bai Tingting said.

Mu Ningxue noticed the tension on Mu Nujiao's face. She turned to glance at the Military Mages and felt a strange chill—those eyes were not of protectors, but hunters watching prey.

"Students, please walk in front. We'll cover you from behind," one of the Military Mages said flatly.

Outside Jinlin City

Song Jie was flying rapidly on his Wind Riding Sky Eagle, lecturing it as they soared through the clouds.

"Little Eagle, how did you get so weak? Can't you control yourself a little? Two at a time? Your body's too small for that!"

The Sky Eagle stayed silent but clearly disagreed. An eagle should live freely—especially now!

"Jiao Jiao, wait for me!"

Song Jie could already see Jinlin City in the distance. He hadn't found any signs of people along the way—they must still be inside.

Just then, he spotted a graceful figure running frantically, pursued by several Lizard Skull Giant Demons.

Song Jie frowned. "Is that... Bai Tingting?"

Without hesitation, he completed his Light Element Star Orbit, and a burst of Radiance erupted from his palm, blasting into the monsters chasing her.

A thunderous explosion followed.

When Bai Tingting turned around, the Lizard Skull Giant Demons were already lying in a bloody heap on the ground.

She looked up and saw the figure descending from the sky—it was Song Jie!

Song Jie landed beside the fallen demons and calmly collected their remains.

Realizing she was safe, Bai Tingting collapsed onto the ground, exhausted.

She hadn't expected Song Jie to save her again—first at the stadium, and now here in Jinlin City!

Song Jie walked over, glancing at her torn clothing. "Are you alright?"

Bai Tingting shook her head weakly, then noticed that her chest was partly exposed. She quickly covered herself, her face turning crimson.

Song Jie, noticing her embarrassment, pulled out a spare shirt from his system space and handed it to her. He always carried extras since his clothes tended to tear during Demonization.

"Thank you…" Bai Tingting murmured, hurriedly putting it on, her cheeks still burning.

"Where are the others?" Song Jie asked seriously.

"We met a squad of Military Mages," Bai Tingting explained breathlessly. "But halfway through, they suddenly attacked us! Luckily, Mu Nujiao reacted quickly, and we all ran separate ways."

She paused, recalling the chaos. "I was chased by those monsters, but most of them went after my pursuers instead."

Song Jie frowned. "Was anyone captured?"

"No," Bai Tingting shook her head. "We scattered. Mu Ningxue used her bow to kill many of them—it bought us time to escape."

Song Jie nodded. "Find a place to hide. I'll go get the others."

Bai Tingting knew she'd only slow him down, so she didn't argue.

"Song Jie, please save them. I'll wait here. If anyone's injured, bring them to me!"

Then, without warning, Bai Tingting stood up and hugged him tightly.

Two soft, warm masses pressed against his chest as she whispered, "Those people are dangerous—strong Military Mages. Don't push yourself too hard. Be careful."

Her face flushed even redder as she quickly pulled away.

"I'll hide in that building," she said, pointing nearby. "Send your Summoned Beast to bring them here when you find them."

Song Jie nodded firmly.
