"Gaara didn't do anything at all!"
On the roof, Orochimaru glanced down and chuckled.
The Third Hokage, held hostage, gritted his teeth and said, "I understand... so that's how it is!"
"Your stupidity has already put Konoha in a passive position!" Orochimaru sneered. "I've already won!"
"Hmph!" Hiruzen Sarutobi snorted coldly. "Haven't I taught you that you can never know the outcome of anything until the very end — Orochimaru!"
"I knew this day would eventually come, but it won't be that easy to take my head!"
Orochimaru tore off his disguise, released the hold on the Hokage, and instead wrapped an arm around his shoulders.
"I told you long ago that Konoha needed to decide on the Fifth Hokage quickly," Orochimaru hissed, licking his kunai. "Because... you're about to die here, Third Hokage!"
Hiruzen didn't answer. His expression darkened as old memories surfaced — the pride he once felt in his disciple, and the sorrow when that same student chose the path of darkness.
Orochimaru was lost, beyond saving.
Hiruzen remembered Tsunade asking him to approve reforms for Konoha Hospital only days ago.
He had already foreseen trouble with this Chunin Exam. The death of Hayate, along with the warnings from Anko and the others, only confirmed it.
He had told Tsunade clearly: protect Itsuki at all costs. If something went wrong, Itsuki's survival was more important than anything.
As long as Itsuki lived, Konoha had a future.
Even when Tsunade warned that Orochimaru might target him, Hiruzen accepted it.
If Orochimaru appeared, he had already resolved to face him — even if it cost him his life.
So when Itsuki too reminded him to be careful, Hiruzen gave the same answer.
Now, at this moment, his determination was unshakable. He would fight Orochimaru to the death.
In the stands, Kakashi and Guy fought side by side, blocking the first wave of enemy attacks.
"That's a lot of them," Kakashi muttered.
"Not only that!" Guy shot a glance at the rooftop. "The worst has already happened. Look at the central observation tower!"
Kakashi's pupils contracted. "That barrier… no, that's Orochimaru!"
Sound Ninja surged forward again.
Neither Kakashi nor Guy could unleash large-scale jutsu with so many unconscious civilians nearby.
They had to rely on kunai and close-quarters combat to suppress the enemy.
Even for them, the numbers made things dangerous.
"I'm worried about Hokage-sama!" Guy kicked away a Sound Ninja, his face grim.
"Leave it to the Anbu," Kakashi said firmly. "The Hokage isn't that easy to kill. He's the Hokage of Konohagakure!"
He quickly scanned the battlefield. Jonin and Special Jonin were fighting everywhere, while most Genin were unconscious.
Wait. Where was Sasuke?
Kakashi remembered seeing him not long ago. Now he was gone.
Then he spotted it — Sasuke had already chased Gaara.
"No… if he's alone—"
Kakashi recalled Gaara's earlier outburst and felt dread sink in.
He immediately summoned Pakkun and sent him to the lounge.
"Find Sakura and Naruto. Tell them to chase after Sasuke!" Kakashi ordered.
If possible, he hoped Itsuki's teammates Karin and Yakumo would go as well. That would make things safer.
On the field, Kabuto Yakushi revealed two resurrected corpses, stunning everyone.
Tsunade radiated killing intent, her fists trembling as if she might explode at any second.
"This bastard is playing with the dead!" Shiranui Genma's face twisted in disgust.
"Senju Itsuki, don't move!" Kabuto suddenly called out, smirking.
"It's not your turn yet. If you interfere, things get… complicated. So I've prepared in advance. Guess what I'll do?"
Itsuki, who was about to use Wood Release to suppress the coffins, froze.
He wasn't afraid for himself — but he was worried about Tsunade.
Reluctantly, he stepped forward instead and grasped her hand.
Feeling his silent support, Tsunade steadied herself slightly. But her rage still burned.
"Is that… Tsunade? But wasn't I already dead?"
The corpse whose body had been shattered and restored stared down at its hand in disbelief.
"Big sister…"
The other corpse also spoke, equally shocked.
The moment she heard it, Tsunade's eyes filled with tears. She bit her lip hard to keep herself from breaking down.
It was Kato Dan. And Nawaki.
Her lifelong pain — dragged back from death.
If Itsuki hadn't been there to anchor her, she might have collapsed.
"Kabuto Yakushi! What the hell are you doing?!" Itsuki stepped in front of Tsunade, his voice cold and filled with murderous intent.
Bullying his aunt like this — Kabuto was signing his own death warrant.
"This has nothing to do with me!" Kabuto said quickly, waving his hands. "This is Lord Orochimaru's technique. I only have temporary control!"
Like hell that excuse would work.
Facing Itsuki's glare, Kabuto chuckled nervously. "Relax. Lord Orochimaru only wants to keep you from interfering in his battle with the Hokage. This is a gift — a chance to say goodbye. Of course… with a bit of insurance."
He clapped his hands in a seal.
Kato Dan and Nawaki stiffened. Without a word, they sprang forward, running straight out of the arena.
"Dan! Nawaki!" Tsunade cried, immediately rushing after them.
But after only a few steps, she hesitated. She turned back, eyes torn between fury and worry.
"Go, Auntie! I'll be fine," Itsuki said firmly.
He already understood Orochimaru's ploy. It was just a distraction to lure Tsunade away.
She wouldn't be in danger — not with her current strength.
It was a clever move.
But it only deepened Itsuki's hatred for Orochimaru and Kabuto.
With a final glance, Tsunade chased after them and vanished from sight.
Itsuki turned toward the remaining coffins.
"So those two were just to get rid of Tsunade. What about the ones meant for me?" His eyes narrowed. "I'm curious. Who are you preparing for me?"
Hashirama? Tobirama? No… those would be reserved for the Hokage.
What else could Orochimaru have planned?
"As you wish," Kabuto smirked, weaving another seal. "You'll see for yourself. I promise you won't be disappointed."
The coffin creaked open — and the figure inside was revealed.
