Chapter 449: The Sea Sovereign vs. The Primeval King
The World-Ending Meteor had been a sight to behold—a fusion of Heat Crash, Flare
Blitz, and Overheat. It was a move that had allegedly boiled a lake dry in a
single execution. Seeing it first-hand, Kenji was inclined to believe the
rumors.
In response, Electivire had manifested the Thunder God avatar—a gargantuan,
golden Susanoo-like figure of pure lightning that drained the entirety of the
Thunder God's Arena to exist.
The collision had been cataclysmic. A pillar of white-hot fire met a titan of
crackling gold. Even with the Master-tier Ninetales's barrier, the heat had been
enough to make Kenji feel like his own internal moisture was being sucked out of
his skin.
When the dust settled, the results were clear.
"Electivire and Magmortar are both unable to battle! The round is a draw!"
"Champion Zhurong Yun has lost three Pokémon! The first half of the match has
concluded. Trainers, you have a thirty-minute intermission."
Elder Qi's voice cut through the ringing in everyone's ears.
A draw. It was a fair result. Zhurong Yun's team was balanced—every member was a
veteran of roughly the same elite caliber. Kenji's team, however, was a team of
extremes. While Annihilape and Electivire had fought tooth and nail for their
wins, Arbok had dismantled a pseudo-legendary Dragonite with frightening ease.
During the break, Elder Qi released a Krookodile to repair the shattered arena.
With the precision of a master architect, the Ground-type smoothed the cratered
earth and reinforced the floor for the next round.
The two trainers spent the intermission in silence, sending their wounded
partners to the clan's private healing center. Xun Zhurong sat on the sidelines,
looking more dejected than ever. Seeing Kenji trade blows evenly with his uncle
was a constant, stinging reminder of the gap between them.
The thirty minutes passed. The trainers returned to their platforms. This time,
the barrier wasn't maintained by the Ninetales, but by a high-level Chandelure
that drifted lazily at the edge of the field.
"The second half... Begin!"
"Go! Gyarados!"
"I'm counting on you! Aerodactyl!"
"HOOOOOOOOOR!" "HUA-HAAAA!"
The two apex predators of their respective eras materialized. On one side, the
Sea Sovereign, Gyarados, its body rippling with raw, blue power. On the other,
the Primeval King of the Skies, Aerodactyl.
Both were top-tier carnivores. The moment they locked eyes, the air in the
stadium grew cold.
[Pokémon Status]
Target: Aerodactyl (Champion Tier) Gender: Male Level: 99 Type: Rock / Flying
Ability: Rock Head Potential: S-
Aerodactyl beat its ancient wings, its gaze sharp and wary. Even without Kenji's
Gyarados intentionally flexing its aura, the Dual-Intimidate trait (one from its
nature, one from star-ups) was a physical weight. Even an ancient sky master
couldn't ignore the sheer killing intent radiating from the serpent.
Kenji hadn't used Mega Evolution. For this match, he needed to save that power
for Beedrill. But despite being Level 91—eight levels lower than the stone
bird—Gyarados didn't look like an underdog. To Kenji's team, "level gaps" were
just suggestions.
"Aerodactyl! Ancient Power!"
"HUA-HA!"
The ancient bird lunged. It gathered a cluster of glowing, prehistoric stones
and hurled them toward Gyarados.
As the move executed, a faint, pale-yellow light suddenly engulfed Aerodactyl's
body. Kenji's eyes widened.
You've got to be kidding me.
In the game, Ancient Power has a 10% chance to boost every single stat by one
stage. It was the ultimate "RNG win" button. In the real world, the probability
was even lower, yet Aerodactyl had triggered it on the very first turn.
"Dragon Pulse!"
"HOOOOOOR!"
Gyarados unhinged its jaws, unleashing a violet beam of draconic energy. The
pulse collided with the prehistoric stones mid-air, vaporizing them instantly.
Aerodactyl's Special Attack was its weakest stat, so even with the boost, its
ranged projectiles couldn't match Gyarados's raw output.
"Gyarados! Take the sky!"
The Sea Sovereign coiled its massive body and launched upward, hovering in the
air to meet the bird at eye level.
"Waterfall!"
"Intercept with Stone Edge!"
"HUA!"
Aerodactyl screeched, summoning a forest of jagged stone pillars from the air
itself. They screamed toward the incoming serpent like anti-air missiles.
Gyarados didn't even flinch. It wreathed itself in a high-pressure veil of
water, acting as a liquid battering ram. It smashed through the Stone Edge
pillars, grinding the reinforced rock into dust before it could even touch its
scales.
As the serpent cleared the debris, it whipped its massive tail around.
Aqua Tail!
Aerodactyl flipped in mid-air, its own tail glowing with a cold, metallic light.
Iron Tail!
THOOM!
The sound was like two warships colliding. To Zhurong Yun's shock, the Level 99
Aerodactyl—with its physical stats boosted by Ancient Power—was the one sent
spinning through the air. Gyarados hadn't moved an inch.
Between the Intimidate debuff and Gyarados's Conqueror's Infusion, the raw
physical gap was still firmly in the serpent's favor.
"Take Down!" Zhurong Yun shouted.
Aerodactyl righted itself, tucking its wings and diving like a kamikaze pilot.
Because of its Rock Head ability, it could use high-recoil physical moves
without suffering a scratch.
"HOOOOOOR!"
Gyarados answered with a second Aqua Tail, swinging with the force of a tidal
wave.
BANG!
The bird's skull slammed into the water-wreathed tail. Aerodactyl's eyes bulged,
and its head rang like a bell. Even with a "Hard Head," the sheer kinetic energy
of the hit was enough to make its brain rattle. It began to spiral downward, its
flight path becoming erratic.
"Now! Water-Dragon Rush!"
Kenji's custom combo: Waterfall + Dragon Rush.
Gyarados dove, its body encased in a dual-layered aura of high-pressure water
and violet draconic energy. It looked like a falling god of the deep.
"Earth Power!"
Aerodactyl shook off the daze just in time. It shrieked, and the ground below
surged upward, forming a massive, arched dome of reinforced soil to shield
itself.
SHHH-BOOM!
The Water-Dragon Rush didn't just hit the dome; it erased it. The earth was
pulverized into mud and dust.
However, as the smoke cleared, Gyarados was biting down on nothing but air.
Aerodactyl had used Substitute, sacrificing a portion of its health to leave a
decoy behind while it retreated to the far side of the arena.
The bird looked haggard, its ancient pride wounded. It realized now that a
physical brawl with this monster was suicide. It opened its beak, unleashing a
barrage of Rock Blasts from a safe distance.
Gyarados sneered. It opened its own mouth and unleashed a torrential Hydro Pump.
The high-pressure water shredded the rocks and kept the Primeval King pinned to
the edge of the barrier.
The "Sky Master" was being grounded by a creature of the sea.
